I really must get ds back on the cooking lark.

I bought a steam cleaner at the weekend and am Shock at just how much dirty came off the utility room floor (slattern)

Herbs - how frustrating - I'd deck him :) Dp is very up front, a yes is a yes and unless he has forgotten about something he sticks with it. But then ds is older and I don't feel guilty about babysitters (note, we did not have a babysitter until very recently - ds is 11 - we either went out separately, or only went out at the same time if the grandparents were around - I am not advocating this by the way, it's just how things were when ds was younger), as they are usually teenage boys he can thrash on the playstation........

Blackduck · 16/06/2014 14:56

Oh BTW - Stropps where are you?

herbaceous · 16/06/2014 15:06

I've got a steam cleaner, and it RULES.

To be fair to DP, he's not always like this about arrangements, but a general lack of certainty about my future, plus his utter reluctance to talk about anything, to the point of ignoring me, is making me hyper-sensitive to bullshit of this nature.

I shall now put away my dirty laundry from its public airing.

motherinferior · 16/06/2014 15:15

Teenage babysitters are definitely the way to go. A look of worship is produced.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 15:46

Herbs, I know it's easy to say, but don't feel too guilty about leaving your DS in the evening - he will be asleep most of the time. And I bet your DP wouldn't be feeling guiltyWink

My BFF is desperate for a steam cleaner, but I can't get that worked up about cleaning gadgets!

I have heard from Stropps and I think she's OK, just busy with RLSmile

Rosebag · 16/06/2014 15:46

NU you're right, of course. I just don't travel as well as I used to. We're staying in Canada…not crossing into the US. We have a love for Canada…DH was seconded out there shortly after I met him... (this is my third trip…DD was only 3 the first time we took the family). We were meant to do this trip last summer but DH got the 3 line whip from work and his leave got cancelled (I won't mentioned his employer but it was majorly in the news last summer). In some ways it's not been as easy this year with both DS2 and DD going on (heinously expensive ) school/youth group trips before we all go across the pond in the middle of August. Never mind…we have a hire car for a few days to explore Lake Louise, Icefields etc, and are then taking the train through the Rockies with a couple of over- nighters ending up in Vancouver. We are staying on the island as well.

Baby sitters - never easy. Thank heavens I don't really need them any more! Although we do bung DS2 some money if he's here with DD, if we're going out a lot! Keep him sweet! Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 15:47

Yes Herbs, it's a shame you don't live near us - DD is fab with small boys. And girls!

Blackduck · 16/06/2014 16:50

BTM - I don't care for cleaning gadgets either, but it beats a mop and bucket hands down!

Glad Stropps is okay.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 16:57

My BFF's floors are spotless. I don't know how the steam cleaner can make any difference to themGrin

hattymattie · 16/06/2014 17:02

DS has come back from school to tell me he had a lesson on masturpation (sic). He is seriously disgusted. I guess he had to learn sometime, just surprised at the number of sweet innocent 11/12 year olds there still are. I asked him what he was always doing under his duvet - he said "omg playing with my phone, I can't believe you thought that Mum".Grin

OP posts:
motherinferior · 16/06/2014 17:03

I suspect the two things may be linked, BTM. Wink

You could eat your dinner off our kitchen floor, obviously if you wanted to arrange a quick and convenient bout of food poisoning-

motherinferior · 16/06/2014 17:04

He ought to get together with DD2, Hattie. They could share prudishness.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 17:12

Oh yes, I know MIWink!

Hatty I'm not sure you'd get the same answer from my 13 year oldGrin

hattymattie · 16/06/2014 17:17

Give it a year BTMGrin - at the moment he is indeed very prudish and finds the whole idea abhorrent.

OP posts:
beachyhead · 16/06/2014 18:06

Wonder why they need a 'lesson' on masterbation??Grin that would make my 13 yo go red to his boots!!

beachyhead · 16/06/2014 18:07

And I can't spell it and the iPhone alternatives weren't helpful at all!

hattymattie · 16/06/2014 18:09

I wonder why as well Beachy - apparently there was much giggling from those in the know and the rest were really embarrassed. The girls had a separate lesson on periods, which is understandable and sensible at this age.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 18:26

I was wondering that tooGrin And I hope the boys don't miss out on understanding what periods are.....

I would like to say that I have started packing kitchen stuff up! They are now coming next Monday and we have guests all weekend so I don't want to have to do it all on Sunday evening.

Blackduck · 16/06/2014 19:07

In ds's old school one of the mothers insisted the boys were taught about periods (separate from the girls) because she felt it was important for boys to know about such things.

Here Y6 are revolting about the whole school trip to WestonSuperMud as apparently they are not allowed to play on the beach or go swimming or anything - seems a long bus journey for not a lot (and they have to wear school uniform too). I'm not sure how to play it but I can see ds's point....

motherinferior · 16/06/2014 19:31

Our Y6 has apparently arrived and settled in. I would avoid Kent for the next few days if you can. Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 20:02

Where are they in Kent, MI? And WestonSuperMud in uniformGrin

Blackduck · 16/06/2014 20:11

BTM it's a big deal I'll have you know! (It does semm a tad bonkers - it includes reception up to Y6 and seems a loooong way to go with little ones)

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2014 20:17

Well it's at least an hour (in the car, slower still on a coach!) to a bit of coast from here, but some schools do do a big whole school trip. Not sure if they go in uniform though!

Blackduck · 16/06/2014 20:31

Further here. Will take a good couple of hours at least.....

NUFC69 · 16/06/2014 22:11

My visitor arrived earlier on and we have had a lovely evening of catching up.

Had a text from DDil this afternoon; she has had to go for a 32 week scan. All is well and baby is now in correct position, however they have told her that they estimate the baby is nearly 5 lbs already - and the poor girl still has eight weeks to go! I think she must be giving birth to a baby elephant. (Just thought, mind you, that DD was told that DGS wasn't growing enough and he was well over 9 lbs, so perhaps they don't know what they are talking about.)
