It's not money - Victoria Beckham must spend a fortune, but she never looks glossy, she looks insecure and overdone.
Just aim to look healthy, pretty and natural. Aiming to look like a magazine cover star or someone famous, laying on the false nails, lashes, extensions and tan will be very expensive, but you will look cheap.
Look after your skin and wear foundation in exactly the same colour only where you need it.
Leave your eyebrows well alone! Have your threader to take off only the stragglers and inbetweeners so that you maintain your natural shape. If you have fair eyebrows, have them professionally tinted and if you have dark ones, don't go colouring them in some more Kate.
Use a tiny bit of eyeshadow instead of eye liner, and almost no blush. Use coloured lip salve rather than lipstick and certainly not jammy gloss. Mascara should be combed through, not weigh your lashes down like a Tiny Tears doll. False eyelashes should be individual lashes professionally applied on high days and holidays, not a a drunken ill-fitting strip glued to your eyelids at every opportunity.
Keep highlights the same base tone as your natural colour, so it looks as if they happened in the sun, not at the hairdresser's. Don't bite your nails, don't grow them beyond your fingertips, and don't paint them crazy colours.
Hair and nails should be professionally supervised as often as you can afford it. If you're exposing your feet, have a professional pedicure first.
Get lots of sleep and fresh air.
Wear natural fibres that need ironing or drycleaning, and make sure they're pressed when you wear them. Have all your tailoring altered to fit perfectly. Keep your shoes and bag clean.
Maintain a fighting weight and make sure your bra and knickers fit and are invisible under your clothes.
