What is it that makes you look glossy?

I was at the Derby yesterday in the grandstand - so fairly dressy and smart. Was really struck by how much effort people had made but some people just looked 'glossy' a smart and well turned out. Others had clearly made an effort and had nice clothes on but just didn't look so together / glossy / classy. I don't know what the word is but I want to look like that! What's the secret? Please tell me what you think.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. Don't stand a chance with the glossy hair - mine is more frizz than anything else and I'm doing the curly girl method. But a good cut is important i think. I think you are right about the eyebrows! Any tips for growing them thicker quick? Clear, sparkly skin and nice nails are also an indicator. Hmmm and nice clothes! Can Primark clothes ever look classy?

thesaurus that's quite an exhaustive list drags un-glossy self to sofa, for a lie down

Not being orange helps.

It seems the natural look is not desirable these days. It is all over groomed hair, eye lash extensions, layers of make up, teeth whitening and in some cases, fake tan.

Red hair is pretty much impossible to get to look natural on someone who isn't already a redhead, so while dyed red hair can look fabulous, it would be really hard to pull off with the sort of polished natural look that is being discussed here.

How do you know uf you suit red hair? Im too dark to go blonde but my skin and eyes arent dark. Would love to go a gold copper. Does that sound shoddy more than glossy!

Yep I prefer it natural too. Over styled is not good.

I don't like too made up hair, hair should look and feel natural, this bouncy glossy perfectly made waves/loose curls can make you look years older than you really are,

I think it's whenever your skin tone starts to change; if you dye your hair you need to tweak the colour to go with your skin or else it just looks odd.

I think well done blonde can look amazing but a friend of 46 has it and the bill is eye watering! It looks like that kids hair though and is worth it to her. I think that burgundy colour is the worst

thesaurusgirl I agree with everything you said ,specially eyebrows! And no to threading or waxing eyebrows, they ruin the shape completely, most of the threading experts actually have no idea what suits your face, and just thread a shape they can do,using the old shaping technique with tweezers is best.

i hate blonde hair when people arent blonde. So much it sometimes goes green.

Ladies over 40 - rethink the blonde

Hair is key. Glossy hair at an expensive place.

Thesaurus has got it, pretty good lists. Agree on the eyebrows. People over pluck over time.

my experience of French women is not good. Plus the italian tourists here - Mia mama!

The problem with 'doing' brows is that most women over-do them.

They're overplucked most of the time, or plucked too far apart.

Or they're pencilled in so thickly they look like twin moustaches.

Or they take on strange shapes because that's what the threader's been trained to do, which means they sit on your face with their shape no relation to your brow bone.

Terrible admission this, but I was reading the make-under feature on the Daily Mail this lunch time and all of those women look atrocious because they all have ridiculous eyebrows. Leave them alone ladies! You almost never see Italian or French women with comedy brows and it's because they do the bare minimum to them.

What magically happens at 28 that means you can't wear skirts above the knee, then? Confused

Good skin, slim, hair that moves and is a colour that exists irl! Clothes that fit. Agree brows just pull it all together. Not too much make up.

Quint Grin. I LOVE Hello, not least because of the amount of time I spend at the hairdresser's.

How could I have forgotten Cat Deeley or Elle MacPherson? They're the ultimate glossy blondes.
