On a 40 year old

Sorry, more age-related posts. Would this dress look good on a younger woman but make a 40 year old look like "mutton"?

OP posts:
MoonlightandRoses · 02/06/2014 22:40

I think if you have a similar figure to the model or are confident (or both) it will look good whatever age you are. Would love to fit something like that personally but have far too many lumps & bumps and not enough confidence...

Valdeeves · 02/06/2014 22:43

Yep if you are slim it'll look fantastic - 40 is not a hundred years old!!!

CointreauVersial · 02/06/2014 23:38

I'm 47 and wouldn't wear it. Too short.

noddyholder · 02/06/2014 23:47

I am 49 and it's not my sort of thing but if it was I would wear it as legs etc still ok. Hate the word mutton I think we have a built,in radar for clothes that suddenly don't look right as time goes on and most women just naturally know what suits.

TheRealMaryMillington · 02/06/2014 23:50

very short even on a someone shorter than that there moggle

its not an age issue its a leg issue

TheRealMaryMillington · 02/06/2014 23:51

and a bit of a pants showing/will-you-have -to - bend -over issue

annebullin · 02/06/2014 23:52

I wouldn't wear it.

Too short with bare legs.
Might be okay with opaques if you are very slim.

Babesh · 02/06/2014 23:54

I think young lovelies can look great in all sorts, that dress just gives so much potential for looking cheap and less young and lovely than in other stuff. Mind you maybe just can't conceive it as have awful legs!

shggg245 · 03/06/2014 00:03

If you're stick thin with small tits / arse you could maybe pull it off but only with very understated grooming.

Not my thing even when I was younger and size 8.

Imo it's too short but nothing to do with age, although I''ve recently noticed knee wrinkles WTF?! I'd look really tarty in that as even when thin I'm still an hourglass shape.

Catsmamma · 03/06/2014 00:11

i'd say that dress needs that firm youthful ...warmth? softness....can't think of the right word.

Pretty sure even at a mere 40 and slim that dress will look wrong.

shggg245 · 03/06/2014 00:18

Yeah you're right ^^ firm under twenties could do it but would still need to be thin. I'd carry on looking OP!

noddyholder · 03/06/2014 00:42

Under 20 only? My s is 20 and none of his female friends would wear that

rideyourbike · 03/06/2014 01:11

Id wear it with leggings!

BOFster · 03/06/2014 01:22

It would look great on a 40 year old. A 40 year old HOOKER.

WildBill · 03/06/2014 06:17

It's just too short for a classy 40 something, No matter how slim or how good your legs are the shortness will scream desperation.

IDugUpADiamond · 03/06/2014 06:26

In my opinion it would be awful for any age.

PiratePanda · 03/06/2014 06:47

Way too short, even with slim legs. Over 40s can wear short skirts if they still have good legs, sure- I have a 50-year-old colleague who looks great in them. But a few inches above the knee, not bum-skimming!

nooka · 03/06/2014 06:57

I look good in either short skirts or almost ankle length, anything near knee just looks wrong. That was true in my twenties the same as now I'm in my forties. I don't think that dress would look very nice on anyone - it doesn't look good on the model, and the angle the photo has been shot at is a bit dodgy.

kalidanger · 03/06/2014 07:02

I'd try it. See how that pic MUST be photoshopped? Her right leg looks weird and she must be tall anyway. So it would probably be mid-thigh on anyone who is under 5'8 and wraparound dresses are fine on most all people.

I think H&M do Collect+ so it'll be free to return for a refund :)

Floisme · 03/06/2014 07:06

Hmm, short, low, points at your crotch and animal print...that is one helluva scary dress, op. Grin I don't think it's about age or even legs, the main thing it needs is confidence and, if you've got it, then I take my hat off to you.

noddyholder · 03/06/2014 07:39

img2.timeinc.net/instyle/images/2009/lotd/100409-elle-macpherson-200.jpg similar to this. She is 50

Floisme · 03/06/2014 07:47

Yes that would be the way to wear it, with boots and thick tights. I would probably add a card but then I am even older than Elle!

noddyholder · 03/06/2014 07:56

I think some people look good at 40 plus and some don't in clothes like this. I don't do rules just gauge as I go. My mates bad I would certainly be honest with each other and no one has ever called me mutton! Horrible expression. I dress appropriate to my shape age is a number

noddyholder · 03/06/2014 07:57

Sorry about typos iPad mini useless

MrsDavidBowie · 03/06/2014 07:58
