So we are off to Kos imminently and my DH is always bleating on about me wearing make up the whole time, but I physically can't bring myself to go makeup free for an entire week!! What do you take with you, waterproof or otherwise, on your summer hols ? Thanks

I swim like an old lady so I don't really get my face wet! Grin

As for make up, it wear mainly mineral make up plus lipstick and kohl liner set with eyeshadow. I forego the mascara if I am swimming. Seems to work OK.

capsium · 31/05/2014 10:54

Oh and I don't rub my face dry if swimming. Just pat at it.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 31/05/2014 11:04

I have my eyelashes dyed before.
But I don't wear make up in the day on a beach holiday.

Aciderwouldbenice · 31/05/2014 11:11

Tinted moisturiser with a high SPF and waterproof mascara, will start the day with a touch of blusher too- just canny go without mascara and I had an allergic reaction to eyelash dye before

EduardoBarcelona · 31/05/2014 11:20

i would give yourself a break tbh

ohmymimi · 31/05/2014 11:41

Ultrasun SPF 30 tinted face cream gives a good colour, UVA/B protection, provides some cover/evening of skin tone and is water/rub resistant. This, with a little concealer around eyes, plus mascara and some eyebrow defining, does it for me.

ohmymimi · 31/05/2014 11:42

Have a great holiday!

capsium · 31/05/2014 11:49

Oh the good thing about mineral make up is that it protects the skinny from the sun especially if you put as much in as I do. However I am fair and have to wear a hat if it is hot anyway, or my parting burns. I also don't go abroad very often, sitting in the sun is not really me, I get prickly heat too.

capsium · 31/05/2014 11:50

Skin^ .Typo.

Really? I think you probably need more help with your issues than you do make-up tips TBH. I mean that very kindly but there must be something very wrong somewhere.

BumWad · 31/05/2014 11:57

Tinted moisturiser with spf

chipshop · 31/05/2014 12:01

I get my eyelashes tinted because I'm fair, leaving them a bit smudgy so looks like I've got eyeliner on. Means I don't have to wear mascara in the day. I use a BB cream (with high SPF) to even out my complexion at first, until the tan hopefully takes over. I also take face powder, blusher and concealer with me. And a tinted lip conditioner, I love Clinique chubby sticks.

GertrudeBell · 31/05/2014 12:03

Ignore the PA attacks, OP. Why is it so crazy to want to wear make-up around the pool? Why is it so different from wanting to wear it in another setting? It's less practical, yes, but on what planet does it mean that you have "issues"?

I haven't used it while swimming, but Urban Decay's eye make-up primer is the mutt's nuts.

I have fairly oily skin and normally lose eyeliner and eyeshadow by lunchtime. The UD primer means that it stays absolutely pristine, creaseless etc all day and I have to scrub to get it off before bed. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it could cope with a bit of a splash.

Revised · 31/05/2014 12:06

PA? Worrying about make up is spoiling Op's enjoyment of the holiday and causing problems between her and dp. That's ok?

violetbunny · 31/05/2014 12:08

Long wearing cream eyeshadows are good as they don't budge in the heat and are quick to apply. Benefit, Origins and bobbi brown do great ones. Bobbi brown also does great gel liner that doesnt smudge. I like Smashbox BB cream for hot weather as it stays put better than most.

OwlCapone · 31/05/2014 12:10

You don't need to go make up free for a whole week, just by the pool. Each to their own but isn't it more stressful worrying about whether your makeup has run in the heat/pool?

I would choose proper sunscreen over wearing make up any day. For me it's dyed eye lashes and minimal makeup in the evening only.

DillydollyRIP · 31/05/2014 12:12

Tint eyebrows. I find I can go easier on other make up if my eyebrows are done. Tinted eyebrows too if you can forgo mascara if not get a waterproof one. Tinted moisturiser and cream blusher will stay longer than powder if getting wet.

Failing that mahoosive sunglasses and a superstay lipstick.

CoconutAmericano · 31/05/2014 12:13

i just mix my foundation with my face Sun screen. i wear waterproof mascara tint my eyebrows. and keep my face out of the water when im swimming. works for me. enjoy your holiday!

MinesAPintOfTea · 31/05/2014 12:15

I would go make up free. If you feel self conscious, chunky dark sunglasses might help?

Lisa Eldridge has a great beach makeup video

tak1ngchances · 31/05/2014 12:23

I do eyebrow and lash tinting plus a spray tan. Then i always look ok without make up during the day

BackforGood · 31/05/2014 12:29

What theawfuldaughter said.

  • hardly a "PA attack" Gertrude - people just being honest.

You'd be daft to sit sunbathing in a faceful of makeup. You can still put some on to go out in the evening if it makes you more comfortable.

EduardoBarcelona · 31/05/2014 12:41

lol at " attack" OH MY GOD!
