see, I think of tanks (when they're not armoured vehicles) as being what I'd call a sleeveless t-shirt. or a shell.

motherinferior · 31/08/2006 16:24

And all of them are quite shuddering to my mind. On account not just of the memories of youth but of prizefighter shoulders and huge norks in adulthood.

Astrophe · 31/08/2006 16:42

obviously ...
a top with thin straps worn as underwear is a singlet.
a top with thin straps worn as a top is a singlet top
a jumper with no sleeves is a vest
and a short tight top with no sleeves as worn by fellas in the mardi gras or by tummy-flashing teenage girls is a...

tanktop

And I know there are other MNers who would agree...

Astrophe · 31/08/2006 16:46

(why don't the .. work sometimes?anyone know?)

IdrisTheDragon · 31/08/2006 16:48

You need to put the ^ around each word. So the singlet top needed some more of them.

Astrophe · 31/08/2006 17:12

thankyou Idris

JackieNo · 01/09/2006 10:30

Quite a nice one out now in The White company's new autumn range.

MrsBadger · 01/09/2006 10:55

Now, I like that.
In fact I like her whole outfit.
But if I wore a white blouse, a tank top and an Alice band I'd look like I was going to school.
How does she get away with it? Eh? Eh?

JackieNo · 01/09/2006 11:01

I think a polo neck top looks great under a tank top??

robin3 · 25/09/2006 16:33

Is it my imagination or do they make your boobs look enormous...almost Sarah Beany unsightly enormous? Look horrendous on me anyway!

iota · 25/09/2006 16:34

my boobs are small - perhaps I need to buy some tank tops ?

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:38

I like tank tops. Had a v-neck in turquoise a few years ago, bought it from TopShop. It went all funny because I washed it wrong, so it had to go.

Cod what was the code you used for the Boden order you placed ? 15% off and free p&p ? I want to order the big button shirt

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:39

I'm a big norker too.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:46

cupcakes · 25/09/2006 16:47

I bought a maternity tank top from Next directory the other week but it was horrible - I was very disappointed. It had a pretend short sleeve shirt stitched in underneath and the colour was sludgy and unflattering. I may look at Jojomamanbebe instead.
Might also get the duck egg striped tank top from Boden in a generous size for after I have the baby.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:51

What are those codes for, cupcakes ?

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 25/09/2006 16:52

I have a pink pin-stripe shirt and red tank top and get compliments every time I wear it - it's bright and cheery and flattering

cupcakes · 25/09/2006 16:53

15% off at Boden.

cupcakes · 25/09/2006 16:53

I have another code for buy three get fourth item for £1 (but you have to pay delivery) if you want it.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:54

thank you

TaraPalmerTomkinsonsNose · 25/09/2006 20:45

i googgled and got a sunday times offer ndp

FrannyandZooey · 25/09/2006 20:59

I got a tank top last year from Next but it never worked as well as I thought it should. It made me look really quite thick waisted (I am really quite thick waisted but usually can see things coming which will accnetuate it). I was disappointed because I think they look v cute with culottes, city shorts, and wool trouser type things.
