Bloody work trousers!!!

holidaysarenice · 29/04/2014 20:55

Please somebody tell me where I can find nice work trousers!

Semi-formal, less than 35 max - they will get ruined. Skinner leg, chinos? Ankle grazers? I really don't care!!!!

Black, grey or navy or anything really.

Oh yeah they have to fit! I'm a 14, with a small bum and thighs but a bigger tummy and a narrower waist.....

NOTHING FITS without looking like I could put two bums in there.

M and s all looked like Simon Cowell touch my bra type trousers. Let's not even talk about h and m and the one legged jump.....

Please help or I'm going to work in my knickers.....

How is the fit of the Boden trousers? I'm rather pear shaped, but the Chelsea turn-ups look like what I have been searching for (shame about the waiting time for the colour I want), do you think that any of them would suit a pear?

Laquila · 02/05/2014 10:30

You sound a very similar shape to me - I've had great work trousers from Esprit in the past (but mercifully now work in an office where I can wear jeans!)

Can anyone tell me what the length is like on the Boden Chelsea turn-ups, please? Are they ankle-grazers?

CardiCorgi · 02/05/2014 10:45

To be honest, apart from the days when people from outside come in, I can wear what I want too; today it's jeans, deck shoes and a white shirt. It's more that I would like to look smart without being fully suited up and I have been looking at Belinda's blog for some tips. Esprit is a good idea, I meant to go there anyway, it's just that shopping time is at a premium these days.

nowahousewife · 02/05/2014 11:08

cardi don't know how Boden fits on pears as I'm the total opposite ie big boobs, no waist, small bum, skinny legs. By the way do you keep corgi's? We always had them as kids but they are not a breed you see much of these days (apart from HRH).

Gillybobs · 02/05/2014 14:51

Im an apple too and the Chelsea trousers suit me brilliantly. Im 5 7 and the regular length just hits my ankle bone

CardiCorgi · 02/05/2014 15:05

My parents are the ones with the corgis (Cardigan not Pembroke, hence the name, although I'm probably due for a change).

Maybe the Boden bistro crops are what I am looking for and they do have advantage of the navy being in stock in what I think might be my size.
I popped into Esprit very briefly and tried on a pair of "weekend straight" trousers, front view was great, but they had the dreaded waist gape at the back and the belt loops are placed in the middle so I can't take them in.

I agree regarding the Boden prints. Most of my clothes from there are plain and have had a lot of wear.

Callani · 02/05/2014 15:21

I'm the opposite body shape to you (large bum, thighs and calves, small waist) and I find it just as impossible to find work trousers. Or trousers full stop really. So at least it's a common issue...

bananadrama · 02/05/2014 18:24

OP, I have had just the same problem! My body type sounds same as yours too. Goodness knows how many pairs of trousers I tried on at the shops today. I eventually went for some in New Look as they fitted me around the waist & weren't really huge on the hips as most of them in other shops were. A very frustrating problem, if your perfect ones you've had for years get worn out!

cosikitty · 02/05/2014 21:42

Can anyone recommend black trousers that don't attract cat hair like a magnet?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/05/2014 21:51

Leather trousers, cosikitty Smile. Possibly not suitable for work, though Grin. I would have thought cotton sateen might be a good option, though. Like the Mango JAPO trousers (£30): search the site for JAPO.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/05/2014 07:32

Sorry, SHANGHAI2 are cotton sateen. JAPO are just finely woven cotton.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 03/05/2014 09:37

Gilly is the Chelsea Turn up fabric exactly the same as the bistro crops? I have a couple of pairs of bistros but would prefer a slightly thinner fabric.

zingally · 03/05/2014 10:30

Next are fairly decent. Although for me the length is wrong because I'm just slightly too tall for the petite range, and slightly too short for the normal range.

M&S are rubbish. I wear them quite hard (I'm a key stage one class teacher), and they are bobbly within 3 or 4 washes. Generally BHS are better.

Surprisingly, the pair of work trousers that have done the best came from Bon Marche about 5 years ago! They are a thick woollen-ish pair and still look as good as they day I bought them.

NCFTTB · 03/05/2014 11:51

I wear Oasis Grace black trousers to work a lot. Think they only have them in during the autumn and winter month though. I agree those Boden ones look worth a try too - thanks!

Sipkin · 03/05/2014 14:41

Would reiterate Banana Republic, they do great work trousers. At full price, they are expensive but they often have great sales and online vouchers that can significantly reduce the price.

Wandathewindfairy · 03/05/2014 17:34

Next ultimate Capri. They are fab and I have had loads of comments.

littlewhitebag · 03/05/2014 18:06

I am the same size and shape as you and i recently bought the black Zara slim legged black trousers that someone mentioned upthread a bit. They look smart and modern and are so comfortable.

holidaysarenice · 03/05/2014 19:01

We made discussion of the day!!!!

I feel like I belong....!!!!

I have the same next problem, some of their stuff wears really well and others fall apart after a few washes. I am also quite hard on my trousers, will happily get down in my knees to look at things at work, or rest someone's body on me, thus clothes get washed more.
