Wedding outfit advice needed-please help!

I am going to a loosely 1920s themed wedding in June and would like a classy, flattering outfit.

DP's ex will be there which isn't an issue but I would like to make sure I'm feeling my best about myself.

I only want to spend around £200 max but don't want to risk wearing the same as others.

I'm a size 8-athletic, flat chested figure rather than petite. The best colours for me are greys and greens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find anything.

This is beautiful and, while you might not want to get an original sent over from the US, it might give you some ideas beyond flapper dresses.

Justinepants · 25/04/2014 02:16

Oops, it's another original from the States but beautiful - here

Or something like this pleated number? (Although this one is obviously too big and no longer for sale)

fatedtopretend · 25/04/2014 06:37

Thanks justine, I actually quite like the new look dress!
I always worry with eBay as you can't feel the fabric beforehand.

The bridesmaid dresses are pleated so I'm not sure if I should be staying away from pleats myself (not good at wedding etiquette).

I rather liked the New Look one too but I know what you mean about needing to feel the fabric. I don't know if it's a current one.

I think you could wear pleats, as long as the dress wasn't so similar that it looked as if you we're pretending to be one of the bridesmaids.

I'll see if anything else catches my eye. What sort of green do you like?

(I'm meant to be doing major cleaning but thus is way more exciting!)

What about plazzo pants? Its less likely youll find someone else in the same outfit. A more modern nod to coco chanels wide leg trousers would be a wide leg sleeveless jumpsuit maybe with a few long strings of pearls.

There are some gorgeous Gatsby inspired beaded dresses in miss selfridge at the moment

if you're flat-chested a flapper dress will look great.

Women with bigger boobs used to bind them flat in the 1920s Grin

Justinepants · 25/04/2014 13:17

Ooh, yes to the palazzo pants or jumpsuit. That would be fabulous.

A bit of a modern take: Ted Baker.

Oh wow! Thanks everyone! I'll check the links properly when I'm home and on the laptop Smile

The bridesmaids are wearing a dusky lilac, I prefer pale greens over vivid ones

Right, on the laptop now DD is asleep, the two links above are the ones I like the most, I'd just be a bit conscious of them being too short - I am of the ilk that knee length+ is best for weddings, I am only 5ft 2 and a bit though...

I like backless things as my back is one area not affected by my psoriasis and with being flat chested, bras are optional Grin

Please keep ideas coming - they are all inspiring, I'll post links of anything I find myself however, I'm generally now a conservative dresser and miss getting dressed up so I will need help!

If it makes a difference I am almost 30.

I love the amazon one and I think it having sleeves makes it a bit different from most of the little beaded flapper numbers. I don't thnk it is short. I think it would probably come just below the knee on you.

fatedtopretend · 25/04/2014 21:37

It is beautiful, I'm just wondering if too conservative, it is a wedding full of waggish types and me Hmm

This one? Its a copy of Keira Knightley's dress from Atonement. It would definitely show your back off!

fatedtopretend · 26/04/2014 00:19

Errrrrrr I think a bit too green and a bit too old! Sincere thanks though, still trawling eBay, amazon and net a porter (as inspiration!)

The attonement style dress is amazing but its so amazing that it might upstage the bride.
