I got mine on ebay from the US, brand new - I'm not fussy about second hand stuff but make an exception for shoes!

Forlornhope · 03/05/2014 11:16

I love all the styles here, you lot are so fashionable! Grin so in your wisdom, can you help direct me toward fashion consciousness? I am normally not the most fashionable, but manage to look ok enough. However, since I have hurt my back I can't wear heels, and this is problematic for work in particular. I don't need to necessarily look super smart, so not necessarily dresses, but I do like shift dresses I like to try and look slightly, but not overly groomed. I work in a professional environment but with vulnerable clients who don't respond well to power dressing (sometimes go to court and ignore my 'don't wear heels' rule).

I like chinos with heels, shift dresses with heels etc, on my more casual days, skinny jeans with heels, I like peter pan and slash neck type tops/necklines etc.

So, having trouble with heels, what style combinations work for short people with, in particular short legs? (skinny with a little bit of a tummy) so that I can look good but not daft ( I need relatively comfy shoes which in itself is problematic as 'comfy' is not always stylish [wink). I like Fly Boots etc, so a summer alternative with a bit of flare but suitable for work is good. Will flats and chinos work with short legs for example? what can I wear with dresses that don't make me look dumpy?

Sorry, don't wish to gatecrash and idea of styles rather than actual clothes if you don't know of specific clothes will be gratefully received, and I can go find some.

The cotton H&M trousers in the last post are all sold out in my size :(

Pavlov- I would like to know this too! I have broad feet too, which makes it even worse.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/05/2014 20:29

Pavlov - let's see [about to be exposed as not actually all that stylish[ Blush... I am thinking that if you can't wear heels, but still want the leg lengthening, I would aim for:

  • narrow trousers that aren't overly cropped (eg just above the ankle, but no shorter) with pointed flats (rounded toes don't have the same lengthening effect as pointed). For comfort, I expect these would be great and quite smart (Banana Republic Allegra pointed flats): bananarepublic.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?pid=000411008J014-15172&ctotc=0-6178&tid=bupm000011&dfa=1&redirect=true or some of the M&S Autograph slippers (they have an almond toe, which is still mind of pointed);
  • straight trousers that are full length, but NOT touching the ground, like the Gap true straight ones, with either slippers or loafers (the Zara ones are really cool, not boating /elderly style at all - will come back to link). For leg lengthening, wear similar coloured trousers to your shoes. For some reason, too, I don't like straight trousers with exposed feet shoes, so I like a longer, straight trousers w slippers or loafers, not ballets / pointed flats; and
  • shift dresses with low wedges or slippers. Maybe even nude pointed flats, like the Massimo Dutti ones? That would be quite leg lengthening.

I will come back w links, but is this the sort of thing you were thinking?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/05/2014 20:30

Kosher - have you tried in store? H&M are v bad w their stock levels and range, online.

I like the Boden and the M&s ones.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/05/2014 20:40

These look great in real life, but the sizing is enormous, you need to size down at least one full size, if not two sizes www.marksandspencer.com/leather-faux-snakeskin-shoes-with-insolia-flex/p/p22286729?source=affwindow&extid=af_a_Uncategorised_78888&comgp=78888&awc=1402_1399145959_5a0b7a6bd90b5bb3c486d0b9651db45f
