If you have a tummy then you need spanx. Not the cheap imitations but the real spanx. Buy them in nude and you can wear them with everything.

What style of dresses do you like?

I agree with the PP in that a fabulous pair of heels and clutch will upgrade the outfit.

Maxi dress, chunky necklace / bracelet, great heels and wrap. Pop of colour on the lips and good hairdo. You'll look and feel fab x

With your figure I would probably go for a 1950s full skirt style dress. They will flatter your bust, nip in the waist and the flow out hiding your tummy but then show off your legs.

I would have a look on www.pinupcouture.com they currently have a wedding section and it's full of brightly coloured/patterned dresses which would be perfect.

If you do decide to go for a maxi-dress just make sure you find out what colour the bridesmaids are wearing.

Love those but I'm not that confident.

I think if you aren't confident then it's better to spend the money on a curly blow dry & and a make up artist.

That way whatever you wear on the day you'll feel confident.

I agree with fluffycloud. If I have work events I will have my hair blow dried and my make up done ( plus manicure). I often wear the same outfit more than once and there are generally photos ( which I hate) but I look and feel confident .

My shape is similar to yours and I have evolved a uniform of pencil skirt, heels, top which doesn't need to be tucked in and nice cardie ( could be jacket for wedding).

I get this sort of thing from Jigsaw/ Hobbs and Phase8.

If 50s appeals, have a browse on Fairy Gothmother I was thinking of the dresses, prom dresses and sale sections, but if you want to make a feature of you curves the corsets are amazing (but£££)

Lovely but just not me. I can't do sticky out and I would feel a fraud wearing a 50's Frick without all the rest of it, hair make up etc.

Really don't do all that retro/big skirt stuff if you're an apple - you need a waist for that.

You need a slim fitting/shift type style but with sleeves - lk bennett normally do something in that shape. And yes to spanx.

And yes also to hair and nails and I'd do a spray tan a couple of days before too.

If LK Bennett too grown up - oasis have a nice shift style dress in a cotton lace fabric in an orangey/red colour. Would look fab with navy accessories.

I would buy spanx in a size larger so you can eat, breathe & be comfortable all day. There is nothing worse than looking glam but being uncomfortable all day as it will show on your face.

I'm such a dullard but will again recommend pied a terre slinky knot dress. It is very forgiving & makes you feel great!

Oh, some lovely suggestions. Love the navy DVF is it really that flattering? The pied a terre is also gorgeous. I wonder if there's anywhere I can try them on.

The DVF is very flattering but the standard length is very short.

The Mint Velvet dress is beautiful. The DVF one is a bit yawn, in my opinion.

I saw a woman with your shape this weekend, looking fabulous. She wore a loose shift dress ending above her knee, which was beige with a navy windowpane check. Over that, she had a soft beige blazer, with a lovely bag and chic, single sole heels. It showed off her legs whilst the pattern, and the contrast with the unfastened jacket, detracted from her tummy area.

The dress, not the knee, featured a windowpane check, for the avoidance of doubt.
