Dermal Fillers.......terrified!

Have booked an appointment for next Monday. I'm so nervous. Is it a good idea? Feeling old and need a lift.....metaphorically and literally. Thing is I don't want anybody to know. To be honest I'm embarrasssed about it.
What are your experiences? Bruising, swelling? Would I be able to disguise it? Where was the filler injected? Any info, please.

I've had nose to mouth fillers. Immediate effect, little bruising and bearable pain, so long as you use plenty of ice before, during and after!

I had them on nose to lip lines too. I didn't go around broadcasting it but close friends knew. Absolutely no pain. She used numbing cream beforehand and the filler also has local anaesthetic added so internally numbs when injected. I was honestly surprised at how easy it was as I am bad with needles.

It really freshens your face up and I was amazed at the result, I also get botox on my forehead and again this is painless as the needle is so fine. Don't be nervous and you will really be blown away with the difference. Be prepared for lots of 'have you lost weight' comments as people know there's something different but can't quite put their finger on it.

Meant to add I did have slight bruising on one side but it wasn't too bad but I am prone to bruising/bleeding so wasn't unexpected.

Also if you are going to take a painkiller before going (but I really don't think it's needed but for added peace of mind) use paracetamol not ibuprofen as ibuprofen can increase the risk of bruising I believe.

Where are you getting it done and how did you decide on where to go? Something I'm starting to think of but wouldn't know where to start except Google!

Maybe try botox before going down the filler route.

I know two people who have had awful experiences with fillers - terrible bruises that kept coming back every month, impossible to conceal.

Regular but NC for this.

I would only go somewhere really good - I've been 3 times to Dr Tracey Mountford in Harley St and would be wary of trying anyone less qualified than a dr. She's been voted ' Filler Queen' by Tatler.

I've had some slight cheek enhancement to stop my cheeks drooping ( never had cheekbones ever) and my under eye tear troughs filled to try to disguise eye bags.

The cheeks lasted about a year, the under eye thing 6 months.

I found it painful- the injections for Restylane have to be deep otherwise you get lumps near the surface. You have about 4 injections each side for cheeks and it is ouch!!! I wouldn't have under eyes done again because that was more painful and it continued to be sore ( not bruises) for a few weeks when pressed.

My cheeks were sore the first time for about 10 days- very sore-and I had a tiny bruise. You need at least a week downtime.

I paid around £600 for each treatment- might be pricey but you need someone who knows what they are doing.

I've had tear troughs and nose to mouth lines. Had some bruising around my eyes the second time, but just been again for a third time and barely any bruising at all. Nose to mouth lines didn't bruise. I go to the same clinic as Fillingtime - although don't broadcast it as don't want their prices to go any higher as they get busier . Only told my family at first and a couple of friends more recently. No-one had guessed although several people have said I look 'well' after having the fillers done. Someone even asked me if I'd lost some weight!

Cote - botox won't do anything for nose to mouth lines or tear troughs, only for wrinkles.

You'll be fine and so pleased with the results. Let us know how you got on?

i had it once. Didn't bruise.
I got botox at the same time which ive continues getting, as i thought it was better value than the fillers, although if money was no object, id get both

Agatha I have only told 1 friend, and my family- no one has noticed though they do say I look young for my age! TM undertreats so it looks very natural- and prefers to do top ups if required a week or two later.

Will certainly come back and tell all.....if I pluck up the courage to go ahead. It's not so much that I'm scared of the procedure it's people noticing bruising, swelling etc that bothers me. Even my family because I know they would be disapproving for all nice reasons saying it's unnecessary etc. Don't want them to realise I'm the vain so and so that I am!
Any more tips to reduce the aftermath to do or take before and after having it done?

I've had:

cheek fillers - no bruising or pain
Marionette lines - bit of bruising no pain
Lip filler - only a little, very natural, but of swelling and bruising, no pain..
Under eye - no bruising or pain

You can apply ice packs ( or frozen peas) to take down swelling and a good heavy duty concealer for bruising.

If you family think you look okay now- are the right :)

I was mid- late 50s when I had it done.

Good luck with your dermal filling!! They do great job unless you don’t have any allergies or any health issues. There will be slight pain and bruise, but nothing unbearable. Make sure the dermatologist/ plastic surgeon who does the filling is well qualified and completed proper dermal filling course from an authorized institute. A person with nil or half knowledge can mess it up really bad. Inform the dermatologist any health issues or allergies you have before the treatment.

Marionette lines are what worry me in the future. Do you feel a ridge where the concealer has been? How do you avoid the Dolly Parton look?

Marionette lines are those lines from the corners of your mouth to chin, they tend to make you look sad. We get them as we age because our faces lose volume as we age. Fillers here are v successful, and the result is quite an instant 'lift' to the face. You look 'better' because a) you don't look quite so sad and b) the filler adds a bit of volume to the lower face with is more youthful.

I have had it done twice and the first time I had bad purple bruising around my mouth. I tried to cover it with make-up but it still showed through for several days. I am glad I was not at work that week as people would have noticed and it could have been embarrassing.

I didn't flinch although the therapist said most people do find it painful.
