How do you roast soup?

CointreauVersial · 30/03/2014 19:11

Worms are no myth, BTM, they visit Chateau Cointreau every now and then (although not in the last couple of years). Itchy bottoms all round. Blush

Hamster was loose on the coffee table, and is very clumsy, hence the tea calamity.

My Mother' Day has been pretty relaxed - hot cross buns and tea in bed, with home-made card and nice box of chocs, then a day of doing not very much. I'm seeing DM next weekend, and DSM at Easter, so wasn't called upon to do any entertaining today.

Blackduck · 30/03/2014 19:15

The soup/soap...

Wow BD!Smile

QueenQueenie · 30/03/2014 19:36

I think that all looks pretty damn good BD and is definitely to be encouraged on future occasions! A proper 3 course meal no less.
Had a nice day here. No enforced MD type activities but a lovely walk in Regent's Park with ddog (much admired), with dh and ds2, a lovely late brunch with ddh and ds1 and am now sat on sofa with a cup of tea. Was grateful recipient of a smelly candle and a moomin mug.

QueenQueenie · 30/03/2014 19:37

lunch with dh not ddh... he's not THAT marvellous Wink

Blackduck · 30/03/2014 19:37

He is only 10 so I guess (with assistance) it's not a bad effort!!

Very impressed BD - it all looks lovely; so nice when the children learn to cook (and cook well!).

We, too, were once visited by things that wiggle (huge shock one day when I went to the loo and the water rippled - slight exaggeration there, but you get the drift.....) Quick visit to the chemist and we all had to take some sachets, I remember. Oh, I might add that it actually wasn't me who had the wigglies, I just found them in the toilet pan. And I have very "fond" memories of the night shortly after we had moved here and we were going out to dinner with DH's new colleagues - DD's hair started moving and consequently everyone in the house had to have their hair "done". We were very late for the dinner ... and I know my hair had a funny smell ....

I hope all sick DCs are now feeling better and that the hamster has recovered his equilibrium. Grin

DD's family all came round earlier; DD had taken DGS swimming and, bless him, he fell asleep on the floor in front of me!

herbaceous · 30/03/2014 19:54

I had arse worms for years as a child, but was too scared to tell my mum. < paging Dr Freud >

Lovely, if drunken, day today. Went for 'at home' birthday lunch of friend, involving roast chicken and lots of salad from Ottolenghi's, which was of course FAHBULOUS. Much wine was consumed, and a present from Aria bought. I want every single thing in that shop.

DS disappointed in this 'birthday' party, as it lacked the essential components of balloons, cake and games. He is now totally recovered from the lurg, and put away disturbing quantities of quality pudding.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 30/03/2014 19:57

My back is still sore and it's quite difficult to move around, so have been slumped on the sofa for most of the day. My mother was outraged that DH didn't take me out to lunch, but I wouldn't really have been up for it. She excelled herself on the phone today "You didn't call me after the hospital! I've been worried sick!" I pointed out that she could have called me, and she said, very accusingly "But you said you'd call me!" She then went on about my late aunt and uncle's possessions, saying she was "sick" of my cousins, they were going to clear the house and take everything, and the rest of the family might like something as well. I said it was only right that they had first dibs on their parents' stuff, but she chuntered on about how other people might like something. I said that Z had said that once they had taken what they wanted, other people were free to come and take a keepsake if they wanted to. My mother said "But Z's brother will clear the house! You know what he's like!" Well, why not? Oh and no mention of her conversation with Z about her inadequate necklace...

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 30/03/2014 19:58

Herbs, me too, re arse worms - my mother used to say, with a cat's bum face, "Only really dirty people get worms."

I should be in very expensive therapy, really, shouldn't I? Grin

Blackduck · 30/03/2014 20:06

MrsS you should write a book about your mother - only no one would believe you......

I had worms too, but never nits... Is that a generational thing?

OP posts:
herbaceous · 30/03/2014 20:17

I never had nits, thank god. I'd still have them now...

QueenQueenie · 30/03/2014 20:36

Don't worry Herbs, it's not too late. Your lovely boy will start scratching his head soon... nits are rife in all primary schools I fear and they very easily get shared with the whole family. You might want to invest in a precautionary bottle of Hedrin now.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 30/03/2014 20:55

I remember our first experience of nits, most vividly. We were on holiday in France and DD1 said "I've got flies in my hair". She was crawling. So we all spent the holiday covered in the French equivalent of Hedrin. I also took the executive decision to cut about a foot off DD2's hair with the kitchen scissors - it is a) thick and b) curly and the thought of getting a nit comb through it didn't bear thinking of. DD1 sat next to a girl at primary whose parents did nothing about her infestation - DD1 said you could see them dropping onto the pages of her books. I spoke to the head teacher, who said they couldn't do anything about it - they could only send home a generic letter, asking parents to check their children's hair. So we were delousing DD1 every week.

bigTillyMint · 30/03/2014 21:02

NO, no, no to Hedrin. All you need is a nitty gritty! DD had nits twice, once was en France whilst we were camping and their nit combs were sadly very lacking.

cremolafoam · 30/03/2014 21:27

Eeeek this thread is now making me squirmConfused.
We had Dutch visitors to stay the first time dd brought home nits, and so spent the evening eating dinner with our guests all sporting nit-foam and making polite conversation.LovelyBlush

Dd is still weak and wobbly but the fever has subsided. She's still not really eating except coco pops which cure everything as you know.
OOH doctor basically said to keep her hydrated and use a cold compress and rest . He reckons it is a virus. Strangely no one we know has had similar, which worries me a bit.
Dad otoh is much much better. He zimmered down the ward at an alarming rate this afternoon. ShockHoping for parole tomorrow.

Mother's Day as predicted was glossed over somewhat as I was working. But it was peaceful enough today so no complaints, and dh is nearly finished a months ironing so happy days.

CV hope hamster has recovered from his warm bathGrin

NUFC69 · 30/03/2014 21:36

Glad to hear that DD is recovering, Crem. She certainly sounds as if she has had a nasty bout of something; and really good news about your DDad. A few years ago I fell down two stairs and ended up breaking my right ankle and my left big toe - the hospital gave me a zimmer frame to use (I don't think they knew quite what to do with me, tbh) - your DDad is obviously doing well if he is zooming down the ward!
Really good news that he hopes to be out tomorrow.
