You should meet the bright young things I have to deal with.... Young they may be, arrogant they most certainly are, bright - hmmm - the jury's out.

Coming for a drink (or two) Friday MrsS??

Anybody who has grafted in a nursing home deserves absolute respect. I do think all graduates should do something like this to put them in touch with reality. To be fair DD1's school didn't let them go on the India trip until they'd done at least two days here at the soup kitchen.

hattymattie · 22/04/2014 14:29

Forgot to add as too busy giving out opinions on graduates - good news Crem about your father - it's only a shame they couldn't identify the problem earlier.

beachyhead · 22/04/2014 16:59

Glad they have diagnosed him correctly, Crem. Let's hope his recovery continues well now.

BD, I stupidly promised the Vikings tomorrow, only to find it is booked up for weeks. So now I have one hopeful boy and an empty day. I might try the Zoological Museum as he's keen on animals and it seems pretty good. Any other ideas, Crepeys? This school holiday has been a catalogue of misorganisation (which really is not me, normally).

We watched Spike Island last night which was great - a rite of passage film set in Manchester in the 1990's. Today, we watched the Lego movie Grin Oh, the joys of a varied life.....

motherinferior · 22/04/2014 17:05

The actual zoo? The museum of childhood has an exhibition of 'confiscated stuff' which looks fun. My lot love the imperial war museum too...

bigTillyMint · 22/04/2014 17:13

Stropps, I chose French and maths Alevels because I could do themwith the bare minimum. Would have been perfect if I had done English too (but I didn't because I hated my drab Olevel teacher) but I chose chemistry instead. Not a good choice for someone who doesn't want to spend hours learning dull facts!

Spent the day learning more about self-esteem and feeling that I have done something badly wrong with DD, but she came in pretty happy with how her science ISA wenttoday, so I am encouraging her to hold onto that poitive feeing

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 17:13

Oh Beachy! Luckily I booked up a week or so ago, but even then I didn't have a lot of options hours wise.......

Might do imperial war museum on Thursday.....

Please excusr my typing - stuck on my phone as the computer is very sick and had to go back to the computermanSad

DS used to love the IWMSmile

bigTillyMint · 22/04/2014 17:37

I currently have 4 huge 13yo boys and 3 gorgeous 14yo girls in the houseSmile

beachyhead · 22/04/2014 17:44

No, it's not the Zoo. It's a small museum at UCL full of obscure animal bones, only open in the afternoons. Full of strange dodo bones etc! There was a series about it recently, which was really interesting.

Might delay London until we can incorporate the Vikings. Could head west for Longleat, east for Brighton or south for the Isle of Wight!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 22/04/2014 17:53

Beachy, we will be in the IoW from Thursday till Saturday. I am praying for no rain.

I can recommend the Cabinet War Rooms for teens. Amazing.

And Crem - so pleased that your DDad is finally getting sorted out.

hattymattie · 22/04/2014 18:06

DD2 has just told me that she will make a deal with me and help more if I am not "bitter" with her. I swear I'm going to swing for her - I not think having a go because I get zero help during the school holidays constitutes bitterness. DS on the other hand who is 11 and has more social skills than my 15 year old just said he was sorry and would try to be more helpful.

QueenQueenie · 22/04/2014 18:09

Is he unsqueamish Beachy? the hunterian museum is fab and free! Or there is the wellcome which is also fab and free...

herbaceous · 22/04/2014 18:15

Gah. Wardrobe nightmare of meeting 'drink only' friend in Shoreditch. What the actual fark to wear? No point even attempting to look with-it, as this will just appear tragic. In the assembled company will be friend's 19yo gorgeous daughter, a fashion student at Goldsmiths. No pressure.

Amusing convo with DS in the swimming pool changing rooms, while looking at my boobs.
'Mummy, when I grow up, I'll have boobs too.'
'No, only women get boobs.'
'But daddy has them!'

I won't pass this one on...

QueenQueenie · 22/04/2014 18:20

Oh Herbs, don't sweat it -anything you like and feel ok in will more than do. Think it's jolly nice of you to go at all - she sounds a right rude cow.

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 18:22

Herbs - ha ha re man boobs......

OP posts:
herbaceous · 22/04/2014 18:28

I don't really like any of my clothes, though QQ, and feel grossly fat.

Wearing Sainsbury's black jumper with white floral pattern front, black skinny jeans and black studded ankle boots. I'll do.

American friend will be wearing something very short and cleavage revealing, because she always does. Miaow.

I'm only going because mutual friend P sent me an email, after 'drink gate', inviting me and another mutual friend to the dinner bit. I'm hoping it was all a misunderstanding.

bigTillyMint · 22/04/2014 18:28

HerbsGrin

So MrsS wont be here on Fri. Looks like just me, you and MI, BD. Is that enough to make it worth your time BD?

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 22/04/2014 19:04

Herbs - Grin Will that be crepey cleavage?

hattymattie · 22/04/2014 19:24

Herbs - remember you posted pics of yourself in really nice red and purple dresses on FB - I can't remember which one you bought but either would be nice for outing with cheeky friend. Otherwise like QQ said - don't sweat it.

DD1 has gone to have a little diplomacy talk with DD2.

NearTheWindymill · 22/04/2014 20:19

dd was fixated on the Hunterian Museum (Royal College of Surgeons) which was a bit bizarre and not for the faint hearted at one stage.

I am exhausted and have said more than once today that academics need a mandatory fortnight on the bins once a year to keep them grounded. Someone talked about arrogant interns up thread. I had to go and sort out what was almost a fight (I think it might have been - but they were all back tracking by the time I got there after a panic call from the Head of Department who was sitting in his office too pathetic to sort it out), a bleddy fight I tell you, between two professors today Angry - let alone the mess my predecessor has made over peoples progressions for the last four years.

And I have to collect dd from rehearsals, half way down the bloody A3 at 9.30 and she doesn't even go back to school until tomorrow. So I can't have wine yet [sobs].

Creme sorry - glad to hear your dad is being sorted out a bit better.

motherinferior · 22/04/2014 20:30

I'm slightly sniggering at the fight, but feel your pain re wine, as I myself have consumed large amounts of booze and tapas - in fact am sitting on train home with my skinny jeans partially unzipped to accommodate huge bloat. Under tunicky jumper and a coat but I trust they'll still stay up when I stand up (they did before) or imagine the shame...

I think I am likely to be utterly wiped on Fri after spending the previous day singing/working/singingHmm I am really sorry but think I almost certainly won't make itHmm

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 22/04/2014 20:45

Both of mine go back to school on Sunday evening, in different directions. We have one car. Does DH take DD2 in the car - further to go, erratic trains, but less stuff, or DD1 - not far down the A3, but vast amounts of crap to take back including cello. Whichever one he doesn't take back, I will accompany on the train. Hmm I think I am inclined to go with DD1 on the train.

NearTheWindymill · 22/04/2014 20:49

Counting down the weeks until the school journey from hell ends Grin. Roll on a local 6th form.

beachyhead · 22/04/2014 21:17

So thank you everyone...looks like tomorrow will consist of various drop offs to get rid of dd's, then off to London for the Cabinet War Rooms, Hunterian Museum and the Grant Museum of Zoology. Don't want to admit it, but preferred the dd1 day of photo exhibitions and art galleries we did after the last Crepey meet up!

dd1 is downstairs and is learning 'attachment' in psychology. She has just blamed me for not having had any boyfriends on her 3.5 weeks in neo-natal! Great, another guilt trip......
