Oh yes that rings bells sheherazade. Gives dd a hard stare to impress positive things upon her.

Hope you're OK.

Hang in there Crem

CointreauVersial · 21/04/2014 23:56

You mentioned Kingston, Windy. That's my local shopping location - are we near each other?

Talking of bra measuring, I finally got round to sorting myself out with the correct size, took myself off to M&S on Saturday, and ended up with 32 DD. Ha ha ha. Yes, with my miserable little fried eggs. I was previously 34C. I now have a cleavage. Shock

motherinferior · 22/04/2014 08:09

Phwoar, CV.

DD1 needs new bras, she asserts. I feel rather unwilling to get her the pricy padded and/or underwired monstrosities mainly available, but am sure she should be measured....

Stropps, that sounds awful and no, it isn't an excuse to be thoroughly vile.

Right, I must look at magazine layouts. (That sounds a lot more high-profile than it actually is Grin.) I also have the dentist later - they rang and said there was a cheap offer on the hygienist today and did I want to move my booking forward, which seemed like a sensible idea as I can fit it in this morning. I always dread the dentist; my last filling was in 1986, just after my university finals, but bungled orthodontics in 1970s Norwich have left me with gaps and at least one tooth which is apparently the victim of receding gums.

And I still weigh huge amounts but as I can get into my tightest jeans I've decided the Ladyjogging has given me a bit of muscle Grin.

Am worried about Crem.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 22/04/2014 08:36

MI - can I recommend Debenhams for reasonably priced bras? They also have a sale on at the moment. DD2, having said she "only wanted white or beige or cream" ended up with a hot pink number...

Yes - hope they are sorting out your DDad Crem, that he is comfortable and improving and that you and your DMum managed to get some sleep.

Must go into the office - have a raft of admin to do...

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 08:44

Hi all I am in bed (still) with DDog killing my slipper....

I have been reading the bra intervention threads and thinking I must find a tape measure and find out what size I actually am (that or lose wright so I can get back into my 34c!)

All those teenage girls sound stressful - you are all doing a wonderful job, yes, you too Stropps!

Hope Cremo is okay.

Back at work.

Looking forward to FridaySmile So who's coming for drinks/food with BD, MI and I?

motherinferior · 22/04/2014 08:56

Ah yes, must check about that one Grin. What time were we thinking? I am also out for tapas (get me*) tonight, and singing on Thursday so am wondering if I will be wiped by then....

*I don't get out much. Time was when this would be a totally normal, nay quiet week.

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 09:17

Oh come on MI - promise won't be a mega late one! :-)
I'm happy to meet up whenever suits as will be at Brit Museum in the afternoon looking at some rape and pillage (I know, I know, it's all a myth).....

NearTheWindymill · 22/04/2014 09:19

Yes, we are relatively nearby cointreau - we've met too :).

herbaceous · 22/04/2014 09:22

Don't think I can do Friday, crepeys, as DP is out that night. Soz.

Have been invited out for socialising tonight, but in a mildly insulting way. An old pal who now lives in the stares is over in London. She sent a Facebook message saying she wants to meet another friend, P, for dinner, and did I want to come for a drink? And could I quickly recommend her somewhere to eat, as she'll be without her phone. Not if I'm only. 'Drink' friend rather than dinner, no I couldn't!

Also worried about crem.

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 10:00

Herbs boo...

That'll be a big no from me re friend - how rude.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 22/04/2014 10:20

Sorry about incomprehensible syntax on that previous post! Hastily posting on ipad is to blame.

I'm going to sit down at the table whether I'm invited or not.

Off to soft play then swimming, hoping that as most schools have gone back neither will be too bad.

hattymattie · 22/04/2014 11:49

Herbs - cheeky cow - I hate that impression that I'm a class b friend. You are perfectly justified in feeling put out.

Crem - haven't been on for a couple of days and have just caught up - I do hope your father is holding his own. Hope you are grabbing some sleep for yourself as well.

Stropps - your DD is indeed beautiful and your home looks really cosy and nice as well. I'd love a fireplace like that. We have the TV as a delightful focal point in our room.

For my DD1, you wouldn't think her baccalaureate was in 4 weeks - she has spend Easter hanging out with friends and telling me "I don't understand how she works" - indeed I don't.

motherinferior · 22/04/2014 12:34

Ah yes, the patronising 'I do it differently' approach. This is when I tend to start muttering about how I do actually have this subject at GCSE, well, O'level, actually...

(an approach which only works with things I do have at O level and therefore not with Latin or art. Or geography....)

hattymattie · 22/04/2014 13:02

Extremely patronising MI as she is actually cleverer than me, the implication being that obviously, as I'm so stupid I had to work much harder. Also and I quote "I have a photographic memory and can remember things really easily". I hope pride does not come before a fall!

Just had a major rant about nobody helping with housework - especially DD2 who has no exams. It has had no impact whatsoever and they are now cloistered in their rooms whilst I have hoovered, washed floors and am now MNing whilst waiting for them to dry.Smile

cremeggafoam · 22/04/2014 13:21

Hi everyone,
Ddad is more comfortable this morning. The diuretics have kicked in and they have managed to drain 95% of the fluid. It's quite magical actually. His legs which were puffed up like balloons for the last 6 months now look normal. They are hoping to remove intubation this afternoon.
I am trying not to get completely aerated about his diagnosis . The cardio consult doesn't actually think he ever had pneumonia. He certainly is not diabetic 2 ( which he was being treated for in hospital a month ago)
And the cellulitis was actually just fluid retention on his legs. I despair.
Why, why ,why.
He's getting an echocardiogram today to see how his heart has coped with all the stress.
He should never have been sent home the first time never mind the second and third times.
I am taking heart that he is finally in the correct place, and being continuously monitored. Mum is actually upbeat and back to complaining g about the shoddy parking arrangements at the hospital ( think paris to Dakar rally at visiting time)
There is a general feeling of relief.
Dd is sticking to her revision timetableShock and has written 2 ( two II) essays in as many days. I can report a frenzy of spring cleaning which I have mostly employed as a distraction tactic. Sparkly fridge/ spotless skirting boardsConfused
< lies down in sweaty heap>

bigTillyMint · 22/04/2014 13:28

That all sounds hopeful Cremo. Fingers crossed.

Come on MI! And what about MrsS? Windy? (we have met too, I think) Anyone else?

Stropperella · 22/04/2014 13:31

Oh Crem, so glad to hear that your ddad is getting some sensible treatment and your mum is feeling perkier. Do look after yourself! Sparkly fridges are always good, though. :)

Charming friend, herbs. Maybe she "didn't mean to be so rude"? Grin

Ah, Hattie, that's not my house in those photos. :) That's my dm's. We don't have that much space, seeing as we are in a naff, ex-local authority redbrick semi. Also, I'd not like to lie on the carpet in our house as despite my best efforts it seems to have a permanent coating of dog hair and crumbs. You'd not think such a small dog could lose that much hair without going completely bald...

I have an assortment of subjects at O level, but can't remember much about any of them and anyway things have moved on a bit in most of the subjects. I had to do technical drawing as part of my Maths O level... I suspect that I am dimmer than I first appear and I also suspect that dd is not as bright as she likes to think she is. Certainly not bright enough to get by doing the bare minimum in all areas. (She might manage it in maths and languages, though, but it depends on how anxious she is during the actual exams) Ds is a whole different matter, although it's anyone's guess as to what he will be like in 7 years when he is tackling whatever the exams will be called by then.

Gawd, I've just noticed that teaching jobs are now specifying that one's degree has to be a 2:1 or higher - even if you have other quals and experience. It looks increasingly like there's no point in going to university unless you're going to ace a first and do a second degree as a matter of course. Hmm

Blackduck · 22/04/2014 13:32

oh Cremo good to hear....

I too have divested the fridge of various aging jars and put on the towels, and am contemplating application number three (3 III) - I think I might pass on this one, I suspect it is a poison chalice.

I had a very nice dinner with dp last night - first time we have sat and talked in a while.... must keep it up!

Well Hatty they all know better than us after all Wink

OP posts:
motherinferior · 22/04/2014 13:41

Oh Crem. What a relief but what a mess.

I dare not look at the back of our fridge. Or rather the Inferiorettes don't dare. They are convinced that I simply resuscitate ageing foodstuffs at whim. I remain convinced that quite a lot of things are perfectly fine a few months days beyond the eat by date/

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 22/04/2014 13:42

All the bright young things these days have a First and a Master's, Stropps. And they will all have done several (unpaid) internships, somewhere exciting like the UN or the EU. When I was recruiting, I was more interested in someone who had done a "proper" hard graft job at McDonald's or in a nursing home than someone who had waltzed through life on the back of rich and well connected parents. Because I knew I would get someone who would actually do some work, and not waft around comparing us unfavourably with wherever they had been an intern, and not refuse to do my filing - tinkly little laugh "Oh goodness, I didn't get my First from Cambridge to do your filing! Can't you do it yourself?"

My view of a lot of the bright young things that applied for jobs as my assistant was that they had very high opinions of themselves, and weren't, actually, very good.

Stropperella · 22/04/2014 13:53

Gah, MrsS, that whole unpaid richy-rich blardy internship bollocks really gets my goat. And yes, my db says pretty much the same as you do about the applicants he gets. Might as well encourage ds to aim for a job in a care home anyway, as there is no way he will ever be able to afford to go to university without incurring debts that will last until he is 102.
