Over here all........

Stropps - so glad to hear the CBT is starting to make sense, sounds like progress is def being made. And good idea re the post-it notes - will suggest it to the dcs for their language revision in particular. Although I am assuming ds1 will return fluent this evening fluent in Spanish...

I have kind of ground to a halt today, very lethargic for no apparent reason so I thought I might go with the flow and have an early bath and watch an afternoon film Shock. This never happens...

NU - have a great time on your hols and BTM hope Budapest still going well.

beachyhead · 11/04/2014 17:46

What lovely way to start Friday evening, Wilbur! I have finished my hideous week, no one has been sacked to my knowledge, and the peasants revolt continues! We're just not very organised peasants Smile

I would like a proper summer wardrobe for work this year, not just my winter wardrobe without tights. I would like proper cigarette pants with boxy tops and flats.... But in muted colours ! Can't be too visible in the revolution.

motherinferior · 11/04/2014 17:57

I have managed to get so little done today. Though revisited the testicles, so to speak. Fnar.

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2014 18:04

Beachy thatsummer wardrobe sounds fab. And did you get to watch your film wilbur?

Here DD and DH had a little contretemps which resulted in DH, DS and myself trotting round Budapest for an hour and a half, followed by a restorative Staropramen in the last of the sun. Fingers crossed we can get through dinner together...

addle · 11/04/2014 18:32

beachy, your summer wardrobe sounds fab. let me know where you find nice items - topshop has cigarette pants but i think they may be for people with btm's long legs ...

just back from work, post still on doorstep; children in front of tv - i imagine they may not have moved all day; neither vv small job requested done. pissed-off cat and stale smelling house. pah.

NUFC69 · 11/04/2014 18:33

Thanks for the help re sandals. I like the sound of your summer wardrobe, too, Beachy.

Just back from my Friday afternoon shop with DD; had a very nasty experience on my way to her house. I joined the A1 going north, overtook a slowing lorry, was speeding up nicely in the outside lane, when the two vehicles in front of me suddenly braked and came to a complete stop. On the inside lane there was a car, facing the traffic, with the front completely stoved in and the air bags deployed. The occupants of the cars in front of me rushed out and helped out a very shaky young man from the damaged car. I have no idea what had happened, I couldn't, from where I was, see any other car but there must have been one. Tbh, it was just before a ramp off the dual carriageway and it looked as if the man had driven down the off ramp, if you see what I mean. I rang the Police and was told I could leave as I hadn't seen anything; five minutes later when I drove past with DD emergency vehicles were there and all traffic was at a standstill. The damage to the car was extensive and I hope people weren't too badly hurt. I think we were all fortunate that the accident didn't affect more people.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 11/04/2014 20:57

My hangover has got gradually worse all day. But I was not in as bad a state as my colleague, whom I poured on a bus.

I need a holiday.

beachyhead · 11/04/2014 21:16

No you don't understand.... You need to help me get my summer wardrobe! That's what I'd like.... I have no idea where to get it!

I've never been so pleased to be home. Three nights in a traveldodgy is soul destroying!

QueenQueenie · 12/04/2014 00:19

Evening all.
Safely installed in Suffolk and for once the dss managed to be lovely to each other the whole way here... which is I think a first.

Looking forward to much loafing about and reading - also tea and sherry drinking interspersed with brief episodes of walking and ladyjogging. Bliss.

Beachy, like the vision but imo you need to throw a little money at that problem if you want to look properly work like and glam. Have a look here cigarette pants and here boxy shirt and here too boxy cardie...

Good weekends to all.

CointreauVersial · 12/04/2014 00:49

QQ - I am very envious. Suffolk is on my "to visit" list.

NU - how scary. Hope everyone was OK. On the footwear front, I'm in my flip flops already!

MrsS - heavy night, then?? Grin

Beachy - M&S do some lovely 7/8 trousers. Not expensive and very flattering (imho).

It has been a day of loafing here. DS and DD2 were both recovering from the after-effects of sleepovers; after lunch all three DCs very cutely snuggled up on the sofa together under blankets and had a mini-siesta. It feels very odd being off work for a couple of days and just doing....nothing, but it is nevertheless strangely enjoyable.

Blackduck · 12/04/2014 08:03

I intend to very little this weekend - besides cook and clean and get ds's Easter homework out of the way.
Crepeys who are around - drink meet up on Thursday 24th? I am at Brit Museum with ds who can go home with DDad and I can meet up somewhere?

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 08:41

NU that sounds bad - hope it's more relaxing on your cruise. When do you go?

QQ Suffolk sounds chilled - have only been once, to a wedding.

BD Thurs sounds poss - will just need to check with all the DCs commitments!

Off to Prague on a 7 hour train today - will be interesting to see if the DC (especially DS) will manage!

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 09:18

Mummy Suffolk. Love it. Have had holidays in aldburgh and orford, and my parents live in Sudbury.

Though there's never much loafing opportunity in holiday cottages, I find - the settees are always minuscule.

Spent yesterday having a big Easter get together with loads of kids - all from DS's old nursery - in Epping forest. We had Easter egg hunts, kite flying, and egg and spoon races, with picnic food and coffee from the excellent cafe we'd set up camp nearby. Really good fun. DS rekindled his love with the girl he was best friends with for about 18 months. They only see each other once every couple of months, but when they do they're inseparable, and walk around holding hands.

Today I'm going to buy a smart black top for the funeral on Wednesday, and something smart for DS to wear. It's got to either be sainsburys or river island.

wilbur · 12/04/2014 10:03

Beachy - I am also on the lookout for nicer summer trousers for work, I am trying to find a cheaper version of these as I love them, and I think these would also work really well with a lot of my stuff. I do like Jaegar trousers, sigh, they are always so nicely cut. Having said that I do have a pair of wool cigarette pants from Zara that are good, so maybe these might be ok.

Have a lovely time in Suffolk, QQ.

BD, might be able to do early drink straight from work on 24th. Will have to check re dcs and school run.

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 10:35

Gah. Have tried on Black Dress for funeral, and it would be perfect, if it weren't for my vastly sticking out tummy. Any tips for a flat tummy within four days? Other than emergency surgery?

wilbur · 12/04/2014 11:02

No carbs, herbs. It will mostly be water that comes off, but it does miraculously deflate all areas, even in 4 days. Or buy some spanx. I'm sure the dress looks fine though, can you wear a lightweight wrap to distract if you're feeling tummy-conscious?

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 11:23

Alas I cannot do that Thurs as have choir. Bum.

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 11:28

But have two (2,ii) cardies on way. It appears I am paying for both (long and complicated story) but frankly I need some non-shabby knitwear and I suspect I also need some things that are relatively fitted as I can feel self slipping into the baggy concealment of my student days. I may have a few pounds that won't quit but (a) am Ladyjogged into slightly more muscularity than before (b) do wear size 10 jeans, dammit (admittedly elsewhere on MN this is decried as at least a size 14 in the sizes of our youth)....

I should probably add that I'm very, very short!

QueenQueenie · 12/04/2014 11:59

For the cardie fetishists amongst you I bought this last week. Spring in a cardie!

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 12:02

I am hoping for a similar Easter vibe from my own yellow number Grin

NUFC69 · 12/04/2014 12:59

I love the yellow cardigans; such a happy colour. As it is dull, grey and cold here they would definitely make me feel more spring like.

I go away on Wednesday; lots of things to do in the meantime, including singing briefly tomorrow, child minding on Monday and visiting the manicurist on Tuesday.

I hope those of you who are away already are suitably relaxed, although I guess BTM's train journey doesn't come into that category!

Blackduck · 12/04/2014 13:38

Wednesday or Friday also possible if either of those works best for majority of people?

OP posts:
Stropperella · 12/04/2014 14:34

Hope the train journey to Prague is a pleasant one, BTM.

Suffolk: my absolute bestest friend moved there about 15 years ago and I have barely seen her since. I like it once I get there, but it seems to take forever and a day to get there from where I am. Another friend was Archdeacon of Sudbury and still lives around those parts and I haven't seen him in forever either, despite making repeated promises to visit him since about 1995. Hmmm.

Dd and I had a good trip to Exeter yesterday. Some very sparkly high heels were purchased for prom. I have been authorised to post a pic, so will do so later. Dd and I have the same size feet and these shoes fit me, but I couldn't wear them as my ankles aren't stable enough for heels and anyway I don't have the sort of life that ever calls for sparkly high heels. I seem to recall that she has wanted a pair of such shoes since she was very tiny. First shop visited, first pair tried on. I have never had a smoother, less stressful shopping trip in my life.

MI, I'm sure your Devon-based friend will have given you loads of local recommendations and I can only give day-tripper recs, but I do like this place in central Exeter (have been before with dh) and we also tried out the On the Waterfront pub on The Quay, which is the place to get good pizza as recommended by a friend of mine. Nice view, outdoor seating by the water (surprise!) and the pizzas are definitely a "one between two" scenario. Prob v. busy over the BH w/e, though.

Stropperella · 12/04/2014 14:48

Feeling very thoughtful, as someone I have known online through work for 13 years (member of the group through which dh and I met) posted yesterday in our FB group that her son has committed suicide. We all knew how hard she has struggled to help him over the years and at least one other person in the group has sadly been through the same thing in similar circs. Sad doesn't really begin to cover it.

NUFC69 · 12/04/2014 15:23

Oh, Stropps, that is so sad. My condolences to your friend and the group, it will bring it all back for everyone. A teenage neighbour (I went out with him on one date) committed suicide - fifty years later I still feel sick when I think about it. Tragic when youngsters have all their lives in front of them.
