Over here all........

OP posts:

Oh Stropps, that's so sad and so frightening too for anyone with teenagers to even think about. Suicide has such a devestating impact on everyone connected with the person who does it. There is quite a history of it in dh's family. It scares me.

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 17:36

Oh Stropps, how awful. I've had similar news about a woman I used to know, but she was 45.

Agree about the legacy; my grandmother killed herself when my mother was v small (and my uncle was a baby!) and the repercussions are still being felt.

Stropperella · 12/04/2014 17:48

Scares me too, especially as dd lives her life under the shadow of her dad's suicide. The friend mentioned above had identical twin dss. They are 30. One of them has always been fine and the other very much hadn't since his teens. She also has a much younger dd. The photos she is posting now on FB of the boys as gorgeous toddlers are so sad in the light of what has happened. She is an amazing, big-hearted person. I am very sad for her. She recently had to have a month off work because she was very ill and was hospitalised and lost a whole month's income (freelance, like the rest of us and not UK-based) and now I'm guessing things are a lot worse. The group is organising donations, although she would never in a million years ask. Single parent who got left in the lurch a long time ago.
Life really isn't fair, is it?

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 18:28

Oh Stropps that is so very sad.

We had a very relaxing train journey (DC spent it watching stuff downloaded on the iplayer and I read The Secret Life of Bees which was very good) However DC both lost the plot as we got off the train to get to the apartment....

hattymattie · 12/04/2014 19:10

Just found my way back onto the site after it went into lockdown. Quiet day here German correspondent left so we're getting back to normal. House feels quite empty.

NUFC69 · 12/04/2014 19:17

Hatty, I bet it sounds quiet, too?

We have had a busy day with most of the family round at different times, and we've just had a lovely chilli for dinner. We did manage to put some of our clothes out on the spare bed, ready for packing in a couple of days' time. And it's now a lovely evening, so am hoping tomorrow will be ok so that DH can mow all the lawns.

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 19:21

I am exhausted. A tiredness that just won't quitHmm

Think I will just have to do bog-all tomorrow. And read the three rather good books I picked up in the local charity shops this afternoonGrin No clothes this time, though I have a whole stash of summery stuff waiting for warmer weather!

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 19:24

In S&B news, I had a good haul at Sainsbury's today, and bought this lemony little number], plus [[http://www.sainsburys-live-well-for-less.co.uk/tu-clothing/products/women/denim-dress/ this useful denim item. For the summer, natch.

The 'no carbs' idea for a flatter stomach is a good one, apart from the fact I'm rather enjoying my Sol and crisps.

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 19:25

Oops, link fail. Lemon here

hattymattie · 12/04/2014 19:26

MI - are your iron levels ok?

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 20:02

I think so, Hattie. I've had them checked before. I just get pathetically tired from time to time. Usually in winter, though, not springHmm

Herbs, is that dress cotton? The lemon one? I long for it madly !

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 20:05

It is indeed, with a slight stretch. The skirt element is lined with white cotton, too. And a bargain!

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 20:31

I love that dress Herbs! Doubt the colours would suit me, but the denim one might - I may have to go on a reccie when I get back!

MI I have very low iron levels but I don't think I get unusually tired (though maybe I'd be a Duracell bunny!) - maybe you just need a few days of not doing much?

in a Holmes Place complex which we can use!

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 20:33

Oops that should have said that our appartment here is really big and in a Holmes Place.

hattymattie · 12/04/2014 20:36

MI - in France you'd have been rushed off for a blood test by now - iron, vitamin D etc. Get out in the spring sunshine - 15 minutes a day direct sunlight on skin apparently.

motherinferior · 12/04/2014 20:47
Grin

Herbs, would you be offended if I fell on that frock like a starving wolf? I love lemon prints. And lemons.

CointreauVersial · 12/04/2014 20:53

Herbs, that yellow dress is real purr-ty. I would be tempted myself, but I picked up a gorgeous summer dress in the charity shop the other day which I am beyond pleased with. Just need the sunshine.

I realise I still haven't done any links to my recent shoe purchases. In my defence it is tricky on the tablet (finding things on mobile sites is a PITA).

I did something new and different today - I drove to a scrap metal yard and sold some copper. Smile It was the old hot water cylinder, and I got 50 quid for it. I envisaged a shady kind of place, with grubby characters flogging church-roof lead and rolls of stolen cable, but not a bit of it. They were all very polite and helpful, weighed the cylinder and issued a cheque. Which I promptly blew (and quite a lot more) on food for tomorrow.

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 21:12

I would take any lemon dress purchasing as the sincerest form of flattery. In fact, we could have a lemon dress meet up, under a spreading scenic tree.

There's a lovely long-sleeved daisy print dress on the website, too, but not in the actual shop, sadly.

Stropperella · 12/04/2014 21:34

How long is the lurvely lemon number, Herbs? Blimey, those daisies are everywhere at the moment...

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 21:35

I love the daisy one! Deffo need a trip to Sainsbos on our return!

herbaceous · 12/04/2014 21:40

If you see a daisy one, BTM, pop one in your basket for me! Size 12.

The lemons come down to just past the kneecap, on a moderately tall me.

Of course Herbs!

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2014 21:50

Hope your mums treatment goes well Rudy.

DD has been revising - had to test her on her chemistry on the train as I did A'level chemistryGrin

NUFC69 · 12/04/2014 22:11

Good luck for your DM, Rudy.

I love the dresses, particularly the lemon one; unfortunately we have no large Sainsbury's round here so I can't even go for a look. DSis often buys bits in there.

MI, have a lovely quiet day and pamper yourself tomorrow.
