Over here all........

Yum to sour cherry anything.
Yes to Birkies.
Boo to judgmental aged parents.
Yay to Mrs S for her incomprehensible work triumphs (and better drunk and bitten on the nose than sober and biten on the nose...).

Am feeling demob happy as last day of usual commitments and responsibilities tomorrow before I head off to Suffolk for 10 days. Hoorah!

addle · 10/04/2014 21:04

well i schlepped up to selfridges to pick up my loafers only to find that my freakishly small feet (© MI, I think) meant that they were far too big, trekked on to south molton street to find the same was true of the next size down, except that in that case the left shoe was mysteriously far larger than the right. complete blimming waste of time and the noise, the people!

re parents, herbs, my dad about a year ago said thoughtfully 'x was saying how pretty you were' ; me 'that's lovely, dad'; him 'mmm, i expect they were just being polite to me'

btm - hope it's ok if i pm you in a while for details of where you are staying budapest - you've really made me want to go. agree with NU - you do seem to have fantastic holidays

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 21:09

I am happy to give out details!

NUFC69 · 10/04/2014 21:13

Ooh, BTM, soured cherries: I absolutely love them. When we used to go to Turkey we often had cherry juice and it was delicious.

On the subject of Birkenstocks, I have just seen that the Today's Special Value on QVC tomorrow is a pair of them - obviously have no idea which ones, but if anyone is in the market for a pair, it might be worth a look. (Have to add, however, that my two pairs came from Costco and they were very reasonable - oh, and I have occasionally seen them for a good price in TKMax). I can't resist a bargain.

No wine (or any kind of alcohol here) and, fortunately, no mouse bites, either!

hattymattie · 10/04/2014 21:16

CV - Vat of curry sounds a good plan or even chili if loads of kids with baked potatoes and salad on the side.

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 21:23

Addle, those loafers would be perfect for DD - her left foot is about a size bigger thsn her right. If she wore loafers, of courseGrin She is currently rocking a retro 80's sports look which is rather unnerving!

QQ Sufolk for 10days sounds very relaxingSmile

Stropperella · 10/04/2014 21:58

Aaargh, trying to catch up... here and in RL...

Wilbur, hope you are enjoying your new snakey Converses :)

CV, how big was that fence??? £££

MrsS, hope it was a playful bite!

MI, give us a wave on the way past to Devon :) Am probably off to Exeter with dd tomorrow. Apparently there is a fantastic pizza place by the quay, which we will be searching out after a hard morning's prom shoe shopping and gallery viewing. :) She needs a break from physics revision. We have a house plastered with post-it notes going on about polymers and van der graaf generators and such like.

Dh had his 6-monthly check-up yesterday and everything is looking very good. Well, the consultant said "Perfect", in fact. Dh was about to skip out happily when I said I had a question to ask. About dh's fertility. I was rather hoping that it might be zilch. Apparently, everything is probably still functional. Damn. The consultant said "They might be swimming a bit slower, but if just the one gets through.." Hmm

Aww, BTM, can you smuggle me into your suitcase next time you go on your hols? I so want to come.

This week has been busy and .. odd. CBT is beginning to make sense to me. Dd has been to her first party in years (despite it causing her anxiety levels to soar beforehand) and really enjoyed herself - and re-connected with some old friends. Yay! Although now she is huffing about the photos on FB and saying they make her look "hideous". They really don't. I have been busy delegating things to other people and practicing saying "Actually, you could do that yourself" and "No, I won't". :) This is more liberating than I thought it would be. Grin

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 22:08

Stropps, that is all fantastic news - it all sounds really positiveSmile And what is the deal with the physics post-its? Any revision tips gratefully received!

CointreauVersial · 10/04/2014 22:08

Strops - the fence is a heavy duty thing which runs alongside a low wall, separating us from a public footpath along the side of our garden. It was previously fixed to the wall, which proved inadequate in recent winds, so all the posts had to be sunk in concrete. It cost a hideous amount to put up and a new equally hideous amount to repair which is why I wasn't prepared to tolerate a half-arsed job.

CointreauVersial · 10/04/2014 22:09

And great news about your DH too.

Stropperella · 10/04/2014 22:10

And I spent this afternoon at a local "sculpture park" in an old quarry with ds and a bunch of his friends and their mums. The sculptures are mainly practice efforts produced by students from the stone masons' course at the local college. And some of them clearly got bored halfway through and wandered off.
We came across a bunch of people making a documentary about Sparta. As you do. The documentary will also feature several small boys in 21st century dress climbing about and leaping up and down in the background. ("Will you get out of the shot, please?" Blush )

Stropperella · 10/04/2014 22:26

CV, ah, the old fixed-to-the-wall ploy. Always a bummer in high winds. Tends to bring the wall down as well...

BTM, the post-its are covered with key notes that dd makes during revision, which she then sticks in places round the house where she can't overlook them such as next to the loo, on the mirror(s) etc. This results in ds coming out with questions such as "What is momentum?" when he is sitting on the loo. He is now also very knowledgeable about polymers. Grin

Stropperella · 10/04/2014 22:36

(Sorry about the stream of posts) Herbs, your post about the zoo reminds me of the first time we took ds (aged approx 3.5) to Monkey World. We had been there about 15 mins when, with a rather disgusted look on his face, he said "Is it just .... monkeys?" Erm, the clue is in the name, son. Monkey World = very expensive visit to a playground.

lalsy · 10/04/2014 23:37

BTM, your holidays do sound great - I too want to go to Budapest and have a secret and far-fetched Budapest plan for me and dh this summer (I haven't told him yet).

Stropps, yay indeed, that all sounds so positive.

Blackduck · 11/04/2014 08:25

BTM can you copy me in on an Budapest info? (Partic the apartment - I think I have kinda promised ds we might go.....)

Stropps yay - Grin all sounds fab......

I am demob happy - this is not good - I am at work next week....

However in job news another job has come up here (wasn't expecting it to), which is more suited to me, means working with nice and less bonkers individuals and is internal only :) I will be giving it my best shot.....

OP posts:
Blackduck · 11/04/2014 08:33

Stropps I love the stickers idea! I am sure ds's knowledge of Geography is because he had a world map on his wall from the age of 2! (he is scarily good), I have threatened to stick up the periodic table.......

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 11/04/2014 09:01

BD, really good news about the job; we're all rooting for you.

Stropps, pleased to hear about DH and that things seem to be going well with DD. I have much admiration for teenagers these days as they (and their parents) have to put up with such a lot.

Bon voyage, QQ, "enjoy" your last day and have a lovely time in Suffolk.

Glorious sunshine here atm, house is s disaster, though, so that is what I will be doing. (Neighbour comes in to look after DCat when we're away so it needs to look at least reasonable.)

motherinferior · 11/04/2014 09:12

Ooh Stropps, let me know about pizza place. Is not a glam getaway but is at least a getaway...

beachyhead · 11/04/2014 09:33

That's sounds great on multiple fronts, Stropps!

BD, we have a mug with the Periodic Table in it. Still haven't seen results!

hattymattie · 11/04/2014 10:05

Just went to gym then spoilt it by eating a twixSad.

MI can you let me know how your Woollovers cardigan is before I order yet another navy cardi.

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2014 10:42

I will do a PM with details when I get back. Nudge me if I forget! DH and I popped out to view the interior of the Basillica this morning (pure opulence) and are now trying to dig the DC out of bed to go to the Museum of TerrorHmm

BD the job sounds like just the one for you - fingers crossed. And the post-its sound like a good plan - will suggest it to DD.

NUFC69 · 11/04/2014 11:29

Question for those in the south or anywhere overseas in Europe, what are you wearing on your feet and do you need to wear tights if it's sandals? I intend to take one pair of trainers plus 2 prs sandals (oh and Birkies), is it warm enough to go without tights?

Dd has just told me that DGS, 3.2, on being asked on pick up from nursery, if he'd had a nice day; responded, yes, as all my girls were there. Ah.

hattymattie · 11/04/2014 11:40

NU low converse with low sports socks. Not sandals yet (except for DD2).

NUFC69 · 11/04/2014 11:49

Thanks, Hatty. I hate wearing tights, especially when I have nice toe nails (am going for a manicure and pedicure on Tuesday) but I will probably have to pack some, although I will mostly be wearing trousers. Sad

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2014 14:04

NU not sandals yet here. I am wearing trainers/converse/boots - sunny but still chilly out of the sun.

Just been to the Terror Museum. Very interesting, though DS said it was a bit depressing for a holiday.
