Over here all........

...and yes, the work account is fine. Won't log on to the other account just in case I'm hacked doing so .

NUFC69 · 10/04/2014 12:04

I am neurotic about paying for things online, hope you're ok, MI?

Glad I am not catering for that number, CV. I need to be incredibly organised otherwise I don't cope. DSil says he is doing Christmas lunch this year if they have moved into the new house; I will heave a big sigh of relief after last year's debacle with the oven.

BTM, sounds like a lovely excursion - have a nice day.

We're doing exotic things like the dentist and Costco this afternoon, I am now looking groomed after a haircut earlier, but a bit of wind and I look unkempt.

herbaceous · 10/04/2014 14:18

I am in the soft play bit of Colchester zoo, along with every other sugar-crazed child, £37 lighter. He has deemed endangered monkeys 'boring'.

I hate all my clothes, and my parents had a loud discussion. In front of me, about how I'd put on weight. Which is true, if we're talking about the past 10 years but not the past five.

DS has woken up at six for the past few days.

I want to lie down in a darkened room.

motherinferior · 10/04/2014 14:44

'kinell, Herbs. Angry

herbaceous · 10/04/2014 14:50

And I've lost my voice, so can't summon DS in loud or crowded places. Like this.

Right. Been here an hour. Need to extract him with promise of giant spiders.

hattymattie · 10/04/2014 15:03

Herbs - DS needs a stern talking to about the art of lying in during school holidays. I don't know why parents always do this sort of thing, ignore, unless they're prepared to treat you to a new wardrobe. Make DS stay by your side by threatening with various animals which might possibly have escaped.

MI internet purchases always make me neurotic - do not read 419.

Have tried on patent leather pumps which were on sale that I really liked but didn't need. Decided against on the grounds that I always scrape patent leather. Now I'm home I really want them. I'm going to have to go back aren't I.

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 16:16

Do it Hatty!

Had a very relaxing day at the Szechenyi baths - fantastic old interior pools and the outdoor one was just like the guidebooks say with old men having a serious game of chess in the waterSmile And the metro line 1 to get there was like something from the turn of the century - fabulous!

MrsS I popped out to get some juice and stuff and picked up your paprika - both packet and tube. Hope I got the right stuff!

I am getting all my exercise climbing the 10 flights of stairs up to the apartment (in faded but rather lovely Art Nouveau block) - no lift!

hattymattie · 10/04/2014 16:40

Those are the baths I always wanted to go to. Have you got photos for FB?

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 17:13

Fraid not - didnt want to take phones/camera for fear of moisture/thieves. The interiors are fabulous and the outside pool was steaming even on a sunny but chilly daySmile

I want to do a trip to the terror museum tomorrow but the DC are railing against the thought of a museum. I am thinking I may be able to entice them out if I promise cakes, but I fear I will have to find somewhere nearer than Gerbeaud.

NUFC69 · 10/04/2014 17:14

BTM, it sounds lovely there.

Herbs, so sorry that you're not feeling well and that your DParents are making comments about your weight: not helpful. When we lived near Colchester we never made it to the zoo - is it any good? I last made it to Colchester about 5 years ago and I remember we went for lunch in a very nice relaxed place. I still have friends living in the area.

hattymattie · 10/04/2014 17:18

but BTM - my DC's would definitely be up for a terror museum.

Blackduck · 10/04/2014 17:35

Herbs :(

I do a lot of on-line shopping and try not to think about it! I had a friend who had a specific credit card with a really low limit (think hundreds rather than thousands of pounds) 'just in case'....

We are crawling to the end of term here (not that I am having next week off - I am still working).

BTM I am Envy must tell us how/where you found the apartment....

CointreauVersial · 10/04/2014 19:25

BTM - I think those were the baths I was groped in. Shock By a chess-playing elderly, er, gentleman. Luckily I was with a feisty Swedish friend who saw him off.

NU - snap at Costco. Nearly £400 lighter. Shock Shock I did pick up some lovely metallic dark purple Havaianas though. I tried on some Birkies, but the girls both made gagging sounds. Haven't they been reading the fashion mags?

I also bought a massive apple pie and an even bigger chocolate fudge cake, so that's pudding for Sunday sorted. I am debating whether to do a buffet or a couple of vats of curry. Nine of the fifteen are children, aged 8-14, so nothing too sophisticated is called for.

The fence is finally fixed! A chap came a couple of weeks ago and did the reconstruction.....all appeared good for a few days, and I was poised to pay the four-figure (Shock ) bill, until DH let the gate slam shut, and it knocked the gatepost straight off the bloody fence. Angry Angry I'm no engineer, but it was pretty clear that a Crap Job had been done, so I took some photos and wrote a stiff email. 8am this morning a new man turned up, full of apologies, and hoorah, we have a firm fence. I might just pay them this time.

herbaceous · 10/04/2014 19:34

The zoo is great, yes. Very animal-friendly, and most informative. From what I could tell as I was led at high speed to the next play area or ice-cream vending spot. We did see tigers (asleep at close range), elephants (we fed them veg), lions (pleasingly active), and sealions (swimming overhead), among lots of other creatures. It was v expensive though - £37 for the pair of us - and curiously difficult to navigate. I kept finding ourselves at the end of the penguin walk when looking for the entrance to the orang utangs, and the like.

The parents was an odd one. Dad's dementia is getting worse, and he doesn't really remember what's been said from one minute to the next. Mum's getting more forgetful too, and stroppier. And dad has ramped up his lifelong passive aggression to new heights. He'd rather sit and harrumph at the end of the table for the rest of time, awaiting someone to ask whether he wants salt, than actually ask for the bloody stuff.

It doesn't, however, stop hims saying: "I think our daughter's putting on weight" to my mum, while I'm standing there. I left the room, and heard them discussing how I was pretty hefty. I went back in and told them a) I could hear every word they were saying and b) I had in fact lost a few pounds, but am heavier than I was 15 years ago, which is when he seems to be comparing it to. The first thing he said when arriving at DS's third birthday was 'you've put on weight'.

And... relax.

CointreauVersial · 10/04/2014 19:57

Sympathies, Herbs.

DM never says anything personal in front of me, in fact she is usually full of compliments. However she spends many an hour critiquing DB and DSIL (his weight/smoking, her shoulder-chip), to such an extent that I have to wonder whether she does the same about me whenever she sees him.

NUFC69 · 10/04/2014 20:03

Sorry to hear that, Herbs. I do think that when you get older every facet of your personality gets heightened, so if you were always a little bit aggressive, it gets worse; if you were retiring, you become more so, etc. And things which don't really matter when you have lots to occupy your mind grow out of all proportion. And then there is the time that you suddenly realise that you have turned into your worst nightmare ..... And the tip "relax" just about covers coping with it. I love having visitors and I love going visiting, but I am always glad when it's all over and we can be just us at home.

CV, you have by far exceeded my biggest spend at Costco (apart from when we bought a tv and stand). I can't wear toe post sandals, otherwise I would have had a look at the Havs. I do, however, have two pairs of Birkenstocks which I wear all the time during the summer and which are great when we're away. My most worn pair double up (or treble up) for wearing out with trousers, going to the pool, slippers in the house, etc., the CPW must be miniscule. And, yes, I do think they're ugly, but tbh, I don't care.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 10/04/2014 20:11

I am drunk and the cat has just bitten my nose.

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 20:17

Birkies are NOT ugly!

Herbs, it's just your parents getting old and (especially your dad) remembering how things were when he was younger. Upsetting though. You are most definitely not fat. I am at least a stone heavier than I was pre-DC but I have decided to stop worrying about it. Just as well given all the Hungarian delicacies I have been snaffling!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 10/04/2014 20:18

But I am the dog's bollocks at work. Grin

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 20:20

Come on MrsS, what have you been up to?!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 10/04/2014 20:20

Koszonom, BTM.

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 20:25
Confused
CointreauVersial · 10/04/2014 20:31

Ooh, BTM, I just remembered the most yummy thing I ate in Hungary - the sour cherry strudel. Called megy something.

bigTillyMint · 10/04/2014 20:34

Oooh might have to try that tomorrow if I can find it. There are lots of sour cherry things like sour cherry lemonade and sour cherry yoghurtSmile

beachyhead · 10/04/2014 21:00

I have had a lovely evening drinking wheat beer with colleagues and 'discussing' our situation at work. I'm in Mrs S's campSmileSmile
