Any products you use for different things to their actual purpose?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and the skin on my face was a scaly mess of acne and horror. I had had a stay in hospital and it seemed to disagree with my skin in a big way. About 6 weeks ago, on a whim- a very stupid whim- I put some of my Boots medicated mint, lavender and marshmallow foot cream on it.

Now I was only confident enough to do that because I don't have sensitive skin at all and I know for a lot of people this would cause terrible pain and suffering, but honestly my skin has never looked better. It is soft, spot free and glowing! It must be the medicated element.

So what products do you use for purposes not listed on the label?

Amethyst I thought the same but when I bought my BM starter kit there was a small tube of primer in there, which is the exact same consistency as the Lanacane. They work really well together Smile

sergeantmajor · 28/03/2014 17:28

bicarbonate of soda for exfoliating
lip balm to tame eyebrows and also around sore nostrils
calamine on spots (MN tip)
aspirin face mask
small dot of lipstick as emergency blusher
nail polisher remover to get hair dye dribbles off face

LoveVintage · 28/03/2014 17:48

Duck no, steroids not the cause. There is a name for it, can't remember, but my granny had it too. Hope I don't get it, seems really painful and quite debilitating.

whereisshe · 28/03/2014 18:23

Love is it Reynards Syndrome? Gets worse in the cold?

AuntieMaggie · 28/03/2014 19:15

That doesn't say discontinued either but weirdly even though it says added to basket the basket is empty even after clicking on add Hmm

Any products you use for different things to their actual purpose?
AuntieMaggie · 28/03/2014 19:20

Oh no when I searched for it and tried to add it from a page with several products on then I get a discontinued message :(

everythingsgoingsouth · 28/03/2014 20:03

bonjela on burns (as long as skin isn't broken)
vaseline on cuticles
Andrews liver salts as an exfoliating foot soak

Brightoncheery · 28/03/2014 22:23

Blisteze lip cream on my nose when I have cold. Stops it getting sore and the ammonia works as an anticongestant.

Apple cider vinegar as a build-up remover/clarifier on hair.

SilkStalkings · 29/03/2014 11:31

Salt of the Earth crystal deodorant spray on back acne.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 29/03/2014 13:32

LordPalmerston · 29/03/2014 13:44

hand cream - hair serum

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 14:35

Flexitol foot balm on chapped hands & dry elbows/knees and as a pp pointed out, for getting rid of those bumps some of us get on the upper arms.

I dot my eye cream around the outsides of my lips, too. Have done it for years. It acts sell as a sort of primer for lipliner / lipstick.

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 14:36

*acts well

Emo76 · 29/03/2014 15:06

Vics vapor rub on fungal toe nails. You have to wait for them to grow out but it does work. Got that tip on MN,

TheGrassIsSinging · 29/03/2014 15:20

Ooh I'm trying the Vics thing at the moment. Fingers crossed!

noddyholder · 29/03/2014 15:48

I use those little bottles of after colour conditioner as shaving cream

SteamboatSprings · 29/03/2014 15:50

I use our wooden playframe as a bird feeder during the winter. Hang all the containers of fat balls & seeds & nuts where the trapezes/swings/ladders usually go Grin

BB01 · 29/03/2014 19:47

There's a bug on the Boots website causing the empty basket thing, I think. If you refresh, it'll probably be there again. I sent a ranty email to them about it ages ago but it's still doing it

BB01 · 29/03/2014 19:49

Tinted lip balm as a sheer blusher or lipstick as a heavier one.

QuiteQuietly · 29/03/2014 19:56

I use cotton buds for cleaning my ears (obviously they must be sold for some other purpose, as the box says not to...).

Dettol in bath - it really is strangely fab (better than Badedas).

baby oil to remove left over wax from skin after waxing. Instead of the little tiny wipes that come with the wax strips.

ohmymimi · 17/07/2014 21:22

Granulated sugar mixed with shower oil as body exfoliant.
