Any products you use for different things to their actual purpose?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and the skin on my face was a scaly mess of acne and horror. I had had a stay in hospital and it seemed to disagree with my skin in a big way. About 6 weeks ago, on a whim- a very stupid whim- I put some of my Boots medicated mint, lavender and marshmallow foot cream on it.

Now I was only confident enough to do that because I don't have sensitive skin at all and I know for a lot of people this would cause terrible pain and suffering, but honestly my skin has never looked better. It is soft, spot free and glowing! It must be the medicated element.

So what products do you use for purposes not listed on the label?

Yes oblique- I think it's more a necessity if you have oily skin- which I really do- otherwise the make up just slides straight off.

Minshu I TRIED sudocreme for primer and looked like ghost face!! Not sure what I was doing wrong but couldn't rub it in enough for it to look normal.

Conditioner to shave pits and legs. Helps the razor glide.

Minshu · 27/03/2014 16:53

Dizzy, I am so pale that Sudocrem doesn't make me any more ghostly than normal Grin I rub in a small amount over nose, chin and red blotchy bits on my cheeks rather than all over, then leave to settle for a few mins before foundation & concealer go on.

Duckegg80 · 27/03/2014 16:59

LoveVintage any chance your mum was on steroids at any time? My mum was on steroids for quite a while and years later the skin on her hands went haywire for quite a l

Duckegg80 · 27/03/2014 17:03

.....long time. The doctor told her that it was related to the steroids. It did eventually get better but I remember her covered in plasters.

THANK YOU! If I could snog this thread, I would! I've been using horribly expensive primers, now definitely going to try the lanacane. Grin

ihatethecold · 27/03/2014 17:23

The makers of lanacane are gonna wonder why the sales have increased.

justmuddlingalong · 27/03/2014 17:27

I m currently sporting a layer of Vicks vapour rub on my two littlest toenails. Have a nail infection so am trying the Vicks method.

AmethystMoon · 27/03/2014 17:32

Does primer work with mineral powder foundation, e.g. Bare minerals?

AuntieMaggie · 27/03/2014 17:33

somedizzywhore1804 the sudocrem works well as a primer but you have to let it settle into your skin before applying foundation and only apply a thin layer

somedizzywhore1804 · 27/03/2014 21:09

I was obviously applying the sudocreme too thickly Grin I will try this again!

I just tried to buy lanacane online at Boots but it said it had been discontinued Shock got some of Amazon instead cheaper

Piscivorous · 28/03/2014 08:32

Step It's the Lanacane Anti-Chafe Gel not the ordinary one. Definitely not discontinued.

FelixFelix · 28/03/2014 08:38

I've used lanacane for about a year now and it's ace. It works lovely under mineral makeup for the poster who asked above. I use it under bare minerals. Sudocrem as a primer though?! Shock Is it not just incredibly sticky?

AuntieMaggie · 28/03/2014 09:49

felix that's the point - it gives your skin a matte like sticky finish - if your skins too smooth then foundation slides off. I always rub it in properly and leave it for at least 10 minutes. I've been using it on my chin as I've has some dry skin there and it means the foundation goes on there more smoothly.

FelixFelix · 28/03/2014 10:44

Interesting! I may give it a go just out of curiosity Grin

whereisshe · 28/03/2014 10:57

Apparently milk of magnesia is a great primer for oily skin. I haven't tried it though (I'm v v dry of skin).

Y y to urea foot cream as KP treatment, it's fabulous. And lansinoh for all sorts of things - cuticles, lips, re-lanolising DD's nappy soaker etc.

FelixFelix · 28/03/2014 11:01

I've tried mom on my oily face before after reading a lot about it and I really wasn't impressed Sad

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/03/2014 11:08

piscovorus tried again on your link and it gives me a little red box saying discontinued! I am sure this is not true but wonder what's going on.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/03/2014 11:09

sorry spelt your name wrong too Blush

Hazelbrowneyes · 28/03/2014 11:14

onesleep I do the same! My legs are silky smooth after as well.

AmethystMoon · 28/03/2014 11:23

Thanks Felix, I will give it a go under Bare Minerals. I had assumed it wouldn't work as I thought the minerals had to be worked into your skin, so I thought a primer would get in the way!

Piscivorous · 28/03/2014 11:38

That's weird step, I bought it in a Boots store this week. Maybe they've realised sales have gone up and are repackaging it to sell at a higher price!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/03/2014 14:04

Ah yes a strong possibility there piscivorus
