Any products you use for different things to their actual purpose?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and the skin on my face was a scaly mess of acne and horror. I had had a stay in hospital and it seemed to disagree with my skin in a big way. About 6 weeks ago, on a whim- a very stupid whim- I put some of my Boots medicated mint, lavender and marshmallow foot cream on it.

Now I was only confident enough to do that because I don't have sensitive skin at all and I know for a lot of people this would cause terrible pain and suffering, but honestly my skin has never looked better. It is soft, spot free and glowing! It must be the medicated element.

So what products do you use for purposes not listed on the label?

Fascinated with this lanacane as primer thing, I must try it

Also does Vicks for nail infections really work as it didnt for me Hmm

Mixing an egg white, couple of tablespoons cocoa and another couple of coffee grounds all together to make a fresh, cheap and effective (and delicious smelling) face mask for normal to oil skin.
Also spreading a beaten plain egg white onto your face is good for tightening pores/spots/oily skin and also has an anti-aging effect.

Another one using lanacane as a primer, can't tell the difference between lanacane and smashbox, I have both in my make up box.

Aspirin face masks
Hibiscrub as face wash/foot wash Blush
Coconut oil for everything
Bicarb for exfoliating/teeth whitening/hair lightening
Peroxide for spot removal

Iggity · 19/07/2014 21:33

Tried the baby shampoo to remove mascara....stung my eyes. Will maybe give it a miss. But it took the mascara off a treat!

Greengardenpixie · 19/07/2014 22:08

Not product...more implement. My dh has a few litter pickers that are from his work and i use them round the house to:

Get rid of insects,
Pick up manky washing,
pick up my kids clothing when i was pregnant,
Reach things high up.

My dd calls it a knicker picker lol....

WallyBantersJunkBox · 19/07/2014 22:20

Baby shampoo to wash make up brushes and my face.
Olive oil and sea salt to buff dry skin off legs.
Mayonnaise as a hair treatment.
Baby wipes to remove self tan from hands, they also clean my leather sofa up a treat.
I use my Waterpik to clean the gunk from my earrings.
Hair dryer to dry deodorant and under sweaty tits before putting bra on.
Duct tape to cover the parts I don't want to Veet.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 19/07/2014 22:21

Oh, and I wear my knickers over my head to keep my hair off my face. They are looser so don't squish your hair and you can pull the length out of the legs. Grin

Is sugar and oil as an exfoliator not incredibly sticky?

Whereisegg · 19/07/2014 22:50

I did the vicks on toenails thing (well, boots own brand), and it worked really well.
My nail looked fine after about a week, I probably used it for a couple of months, and very sporadically now if/when I think of it.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 21/07/2014 13:42

What does Vicks do to toenails???

I know people use if close large pores on their face....

Whereisegg · 21/07/2014 15:21

wally it gets rid of that awful white, bacterial infection.
Well, it did for me, very quickly and without the need to take pills for months or spend a fortune at the chemist Smile

Snatchoo · 21/07/2014 15:58

I've tried loads of these!

I don't like silicone primers as my skin is greasy and Sudocreme and MOM were awful on my face.

I absolutely LOVE coconut oil, my tip is to use an electric whisk to whip it. It increases the volume and it's much softer to use. I love to mix in some soft brown sugar - keep it in a jar in the bathroom for the nicest exfoliator ever.

Foam rollers on the ends of your hair are great to give you the look of the curly blow without the heat.

Purplehonesty · 21/07/2014 18:36

What do you do with your coconut oil tho?

TooOldForGlitter · 21/07/2014 20:03

What is the aspirin face mask?

upupupandaway · 21/07/2014 20:17

Denture tablets to remove the evil stains from my bog, hard water in Wolves.

TickledOnion · 21/07/2014 20:18

Isn't Lanacane a anaesthetic? www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineOverview.aspx?medicine=Lanacane%20cream
Also known as benzocaine. Are you sure you should be using it all over your face?

littleSpud · 21/07/2014 20:19

Ooh I love coconut oil snatchoo ! Didn't know it could be whipped, will try

DiscoDancer · 21/07/2014 22:33

Place marking!

fatedtopretend · 21/07/2014 22:45

Tooold, if you grind aspirin, mix them with a face mask/natural yogurt and pop the mixture on your face for 20 mins the aspirin reduces redness and spots.

fatedtopretend · 21/07/2014 22:46

Tickled-not the normal cream but the anti chafe gel-you won't get a numb face from that Smile

cjbk1 · 22/07/2014 11:15
