Top Five Make-Up Essentials for Normal Daily Wear

PavlovtheCat · 18/03/2014 21:14

Either, to put on before you head out, or what you take with you and top-up with through the day. What would you have to keep if you were to get rid of your entire make-up selection apart from those 5 essentials?

(Not including brushes etc and less than 5 if you don't need that many).

What make/colour do you use of those things? What age are you (not being ageist but I found I needed less/less good quality when younger), what is your skin tone/complexion type?

I am asking because I get a little bit overwhelmed by make-up, sometimes spend too much on the wrong things and still don't have what I feel is the full set of Must-Have's that I need to make me look glowing. I don't necessarily want to look hugely made up, but just to enhance my natural loveliness and hide my natural not-so-loveliness Grin

Bronzer, eye pencil, under eye concealer, lipstick or lipgloss.
Mascara when i have time (can be arsed Smile)

enormouse · 19/03/2014 20:14

I'm 25 (just), Indian with dry eczema prone skin.

  1. no 7 essentially natural foundation (deeply honey)
  2. no 7 powder blush (coral flush)
  3. mac kohl pencil
  4. benefit bad gal mascara
  5. vaseline as a lipbalm and highlighter

I go for lightweight products to avoid flaring up my eczema. Occasionally use no 7 concealer in the matching shade if I've had a bad nights sleep.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 19/03/2014 20:41

No 7 Foundation
No 7 Blusher in Nude
Elizabeth Arden 8 hr cream liptint in Burgundy
Rimmel liquid eyeliner
Rimmel mascara

TheJumped · 19/03/2014 21:34
  1. Bourjois Healthy Mix serum
  2. 'Feelin' Dandy' face kit - Benefit

Er, that's it. The Benefit kit has High Beam highlighter, cheek and lip stain - Posietint, blusher - Dandelion, and a lipgloss - Dandelion. It's perfect. I have weird eyes that look already made up so don't bother with eyeshadow or mascara or anything day to day.

I'm pale skinned, combination skin but good if I double cleanse and look after myself. 31.

Im early 30s, cool ivory skintone, t zoney and tired around my eyes.

I'm a repeat buyer of all of the following:

  1. No7 airbrush away primer. Best Ive tried out of the cheaper No7 primer and the clinique super primer.

2.Boots Natural Collection cheapy £2 facepowder in Neutral. Colourless and sets lovely and matt.

  1. Boots Natural Collection cheapy £2 bronzer over my throat. Just great, went for the lighter one and its lovely for my cool ivory skintone. I have used this for years.
  1. Boots 17 eyeshadow in statuesque- lovely pinky brown metallic which works really well with my brown eyes.
  1. Clinique Kohl shaper for eyes in black. Its the triangle shaped pencil. So lovely and pigmented, smooth to apply and lasting.

pavlov sorry for the slow response

Yes, I have found the Bobbi Brown corrector to be the best product I have ever tried. It's the only thing that makes me look vaguely human!

GraceK · 20/03/2014 08:58

Age 41

Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation in Porcelain - (not as good a match as Perscriptives - was gutted when they stopped making it).

Max Factor Aqualash Mascara

T Le Clerc loose powder in Banane - it's pale yellow but makes you look really healthy. They do a massive range of colours in loose powders

Mac Eye Liner in Devotion (a very dark green, almost black)

Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Bulletproof Beige

Plus Lipsyl Original lip balm which isn't really make up - I'm addicted to it.

FuckingFuck · 20/03/2014 09:22

I don't think I could cut down to just 5 products without feeling unfinished.

My absolute basic is:

Foundation: Clinique Perfectly Real in Shade 01 or Even Better in Alabaster (depends how much coverage I want)
Concealer: Clinique Airbrush Concealer in Neutral Fair
Blusher: NARS multiples in Portofino or Orgasm
Mascara: Lancôme Hypnôse Star
Lipstick or gloss: Likely to be a Clinique Chubby Stick or Dior Addict Lip Glow for everyday.

In reality I would have to add at the very least eyebrows and liner and highlighter to this! My routine at the minute also includes contour powder, eyeshadow, lip liner and finishing powder. I probably use about 12 products for everyday makeup.

shelldockley · 20/03/2014 14:20

My skintone is very uneven so base would be my main concern if I only had 5 make up items. Age 35.

Mineral foundation
Mineral powder
Bronzer
Blusher
Mascara

That's the bare minimum I'd feel comfortable in. Although I might swap either bronzer or blusher for a lip colour depending how pale I was looking!

Beeyump · 20/03/2014 14:55

I'm 23. Essentials:

  1. Max Factor CC Cream
  2. Collection 2000 concealer (bows down to wisdom of Mumsnet)
  3. Benefit Creasless Cream Eye Shadow
  4. Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara
  5. Benetint
Beeyump · 20/03/2014 14:58

But I would feel very aggreived to be without my Chanel lipstick and trusty ol felt tip eyeliner.

CorrieDale · 20/03/2014 15:57

Bourgeois healthy mix serum mixed with moisturiser and lanacane as primer.

Soap & glory Perfect day lipstick or neals yard lipgloss

If I feel up to it, benefit glamorous nudes eye palette works wonders with my small hooded eyes.

Currently using 2000 calorie mascara but I'm not keen. Going back to Benefit they're real next time.

And the most important of all - hair dye. Without it I look old old old.

Garnier BB Cream
Benetint
They're Real Mascara
Benefit High Brows
8 hour cream for lips

Snatchoo · 20/03/2014 22:11

I was only thinking about this the other day - I like make up and have lots and also like different colours. If I was limited to five, I would use:

  1. Clinique CC Cream. Great coverage and great for my skintone.

  2. Benefit Benetint for cheeks and lips.

  3. Dark brown eyeshadow to line my eyes and colour in my brows.

  4. Black mascara.

  5. Red tinted Vaseline.

I'm not particularly bothered about brands aside from the CC cream which I haven't found a cheaper replacement for. I'd need a few brushes as well though!

I'm 31 with normal-oily skin. Occasi

Snatchoo · 20/03/2014 22:12

FFS.

occasional blemishes and dark circles.

Snatchoo · 20/03/2014 22:13

You're all cheating with choosing a whole palette as one of your choices! Grin

I'd choose Naked 3 I frickin love it.
