I'm going to a wedding in the summer and would love to try something a little different. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and would love to wear something 1950s inspired.

Am thinking 'Audrey Hepburn', fitted top half, flared out bottom half and a netted skirt.

Can anyone suggest where to start looking?

Thank you sunshine - I've convinced myself now Grin

I even made an effort when I popped out to the shops and playground with DS .....swing skirt with little top, cardi and , my old, cheapish h&m trench that I almost got rid of a few months ago because it's a 10 and a bit snug, but apparently, wearing a trench a size smaller cinches in your waist (works for Nigella anyway!).

Will look up those tv shows, we don't get itv here so Itend to miss a few things.

We defintely need a 40s/50s/60s quiche!!! (Though I forsee a no spend April ahead adter all my spending this month Blush ). Thanks to everyone who's posted links on this thread...so many ideas for the future.

Latraviata · 24/03/2014 15:41

Great minds think alike calling-I also ordered the blue butterfly LadyV dress this morning! I am waiting for a discount code before I buy the blue trench though.

CallingAllEngels · 24/03/2014 16:48

I wanted the blue floral, but the last 12 had gone this morning.

Am expecting my dresses to arrive on Thursday when DH is hone with DS.....half expect him to hide it!

off out to thermal baths this evening with my running partner (had 5k race yesterday).

Going to glam it up with high waisted denim trousers, red flats, stripey t-shirt, cat's eye sunglasses.

Wishing I had a lovely retro swimsuit. Tried some Esther Williams ones this year but the 12 wouldn't even go past my thighs and the 14 was ridiculously tight on my legs/bum. I'm not that big on top so worried a 16 would be too big. And I'm really not a size 16!

have an appropriately glam dress for tomorrow (we have ofsted type inspection this week at school).

Latraviata · 24/03/2014 18:35

I wear glam dresses pretty much every day! I am sure everyone thinks I am mad but I don't care!
Tomorrow I am planning to wear-

day of the dead print circle skirt-vivien of holloway
white dolores top-collectif
seamed tights-pamela mann
black patent mary janes-Miss kg
black 3/4 cardigan-primark
red trench-collectif
red and white polka scarf-primark
red patent handbag-collectif

Latraviata · 24/03/2014 18:36

Ps-re the swimsuit. I just bought a Kelly Brook for new look tankini which is retro nautical style. The tankinis go up to a 36F I think?

QueenofallIsee · 24/03/2014 20:30

I have 4 Lady V London 'Hepburn' dresses
I wear the petticoat underneath for parties and flats and cardi for glam day wear. The dress es are good quality, cheap and all designed and made in London

FabMum1 · 24/03/2014 20:33

Oh HeirToTheIronThrone can you link to the Audrey dress you bought from Lindybop Smile

Wow latraviata that outfit sounds amazing! I tried one of the dolores tops but didn't get on with it. Was too tight round my middle and too loose at the top. I'm a very anoying pear/apple shape with small boobs and not much of a waist. (And love the username btw!)

Will check out New Look. We have one here in a a dept store (I'm in the Netherlands) but not sure if they do KB. Otherwise we're over in the UK next month and have booked a shopping day!

Queenofall what's the fit on the hepburns like? According to their measurements I need a 14 on the waist but the top would then be quite big. Don't want it to gape on the back. (Though I MUST NOT BUY ANYMORE CLOTHES!)

QueenofallIsee · 24/03/2014 20:56

I am a 14 on the High Street and the Hepburn is a good fit as a 12. the swing dresses come up smaller on me (boobies! Grin )

Lovecat · 24/03/2014 21:06

You are bad for me. I have just bought a Lindy Bop Ophelia dress.

I have no shoes that will go with it, so that necessitates another purchase. Oh dear Blush

FabMum1 · 24/03/2014 21:07

That dress is lovely, lovecat. What colour did you choose!

Oops, forgot to put in the link - www.lindy-bop.com/dresses/jive-swing-dresses/ophelia.html

I think turquoise suede stilettos would do the trick. I've seen a pair in Faith but am havering over them as they're almond-toed and I need pointy for my weird 'index' toes that are longer than the rest of them...

FabMum1 · 24/03/2014 21:15

That dress is gorgeous!

You must let us know what it's like when it arrives

FabMum1 I'm afraid it's not on there any more - it was in the sale after Christmas! Navy background with orange floral pattern, it's lovely.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 25/03/2014 19:49

I love Ruby Shoo shoes, have 3 pairs! They are so comfortable and i can dance all night in them.

FabMum1 · 25/03/2014 21:17

Omg! Love those shoes MrsCharlesBrandon, absolutely gorgeous!

I received my LadyV day dress and its lovely. Is a bit more casual than my swing dresses so will be ideal for slob days/holidays.They would be better of they were lined though. I am tempted to get another one or to get a lindybop dress when I get paid!

stuckindamiddle · 26/03/2014 20:32

Fever designs - online and have a shop in London.

Lovecat · 26/03/2014 21:09

My Lindybop dress has arrived! It is gorgeous, a perfect fit and really good quality =D

Slightly greener turquoise than in the picture, so I'm hoping the shoes I've ordered will go with it...

stuckindamiddle · 26/03/2014 21:35

Check out a page called 'Vintage Glam' on Facebook.
