Transition shoes

OK - I know this has been done to death, but I still haven't found the holy grail of shoes to wear when the weather gets warmer and I have to come out of my boots. I usually manage with Birkenstocks in summer (dh hates them) but it isn't warm enough for them yet, but it'll soon be too warm for boots. I've tried Converse and Superga and they just don't look right. I have size 41/42 feet, so Converse just make them look like boats, while Superga are a bit wide for me and just look all wrong. I don't like Vans and the like - it's the sort of thing ds wants to wear, and he's 12. I'm mid-40's so don't want to look as though I'm trying too hard.

I do have ballet flats for when I want to look a bit more pulled together, but I'm just after something for wearing at home with jeans. I guess I'm after something that's not TOO casual, but something that's comfortable as well. Does it exist? Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've got the same size feet as you& have the same issue. I wear converse dance. They cover far less of your feet than traditional converse so make my huge feet look less barge like!

Rarely see them in shops but I got mine from amazon.

Thanks DameBabs - I've not seen that style before, but I'm trying to move away from Converse though, that's the thing. I think I'm probably looking for something that doesn't exist!

Anyone else (bumps hopefully)? I can't be the only one who struggles with this?

Moccasins?

UterusUterusGhali · 09/03/2014 17:15

I'm lusting after some brogues atm. But I have pretty big feet too, so they need to be quite dainty iyswim.

BikeRunSki · 09/03/2014 17:17

Same age, same size feet, have been wearing Converse for 30 years and feel no need to stop now.

BigPawsBrown · 09/03/2014 18:07

Toms?

friendlymum67 · 09/03/2014 18:24

Watching with interest. Struggle with this problem every year - size 8 feet, apple shape and plantar fasciitis makes shoes a nightmare sound attractive don't l Grin

scarlettsmummy2 · 09/03/2014 18:27

I wear marks and Spencer's leather loafers in tan- great value and really comfy!

stringbean · 09/03/2014 19:13

Not thought of loafers for some reason. Used to wear them years ago (pre-dcs) so will investigate further. Need something soft though - hard shoes rub my feet to ribbons. Not heard of Toms, but had a look and a little too casual - thank you for the suggestion anyway!

Loafers, brogues , toms and newly skater slipons. Susie so so's blog is good for this although I suspect she is a size 36/7. I am a 39 but am only 5'3' so feel like i have to play down my feet Smile

LadyMud · 09/03/2014 20:49

Would these suede moccasins be suitable? Not tried them myself, but other Lands End shoes are very comfortable.

FrugalFashionista · 09/03/2014 20:56

Sz 41 here and I swear by desert boots when it's too warm for ankle boots (18C today) but not warm enough for loafers & bare feet.

I love brogues on others but they look totally clownish on my feet.

Slip on sneakers/ skater shoes with their white sole unfortunately look ginormous on me.

cloudskitchen · 09/03/2014 21:41

I've just bought some brogues which I love but probably too smart for knocking around the house. Skater shoes seem to be making a big appearance this summer. Lots around. M and S have a few different styles for around 25 pounds.

rollonthesummer · 09/03/2014 21:49

I have this problem, I tend to go from boots to birkies.

What I'd like is a pair of really soft ballet style shoes. I have only ever had really uncomfortable ones before (they need to be really comfy for me to wear without socks and obviously look pretty rubbish with socks!) I'd love a pair of tan ones if any can recommend some!? Soft like proper ballet shoes!!

MadBusLady · 09/03/2014 22:40

Marking place, I want soft ballet flats too!

paneer · 10/03/2014 00:01

I want to know about v comfy ballet pumps too

SavoyCabbage · 10/03/2014 05:52

I've got loads of Clarks pumps. They are not as soft as an actual ballet pump but they are comfy. You need a half decent sole or they hurt.

They are similar to these but not quite as I am not in the uk.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 10/03/2014 06:31

Toms?

I just wear Primark ballet flats tbh

JeanSeberg · 10/03/2014 06:42

I love Clark's brogues and they come in loads of colours:

How about these skaters from topshop, they come in several colours etc.

LaTrucha · 10/03/2014 07:07

Could you try that link again? Intrigued as to what skater shoes are..

Shimmyshimmy · 10/03/2014 07:13

I wear spring court. I tried converse and super ag and neither suited my feet. I also have ballet flats for days with less walking around and hi top softees. My feet never get too warm in boots and I'll probably to wearing them right through the summer, unless we get an almighty heat wave.
