OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 11/03/2014 22:21

Thanks guys - teens aren't easy, are they?!

MrsS, Rudy, Auriga, BD, and anyone else! sorry to hear you are having difficult times too.

cremolafoam · 11/03/2014 22:37

Oh mrs S how awfulSad
Bd , Rudy I know that feeling. Hold fast and keep your chins up.

BTM it never rains, etc.Thanks
may the arse roasting commence.

I am on parenting strike due to exhaustion. Dd's room is unspeakable and I can't face another 2 seconds of being reasonable.
Off to bed with Scandinavian book of doom in a huff.Brew

CointreauVersial · 11/03/2014 23:44

I've decided to Get A Cleaner.

lalsy · 12/03/2014 07:23

Mrs S - oh no, I hope you get some better news today.

BTM, hope all OK, nope never easy.

Addle, I love the image of your ds operating a dress supply service for prom shopping refuseniks.

Rudy and BD, be kind to yourselves.

NUFC69 · 12/03/2014 07:42

So sorry to hear about everyone's problems: MrsS, I hope they find out soon what is wrong with DMil, commiserations to those with DC troubles - I promise you that you will come out the other side, though at the time it seems never ending. I think the teenage years are the worst, tbh. At least when the DC are small you can kiss them and make things better. And it's so difficult when you have non-conformist teenagers. Sock it to your colleagues, BD . Apologies if I have got anything wrong, I am lying in bed with my phone.

beachyhead · 12/03/2014 08:14

Commiserations to all and hope they find the cause, Mrs S.

Oh, I'm so pleased not to be prom dress shopping this year. Obviously, I have swapped a sweet Year 11 for a multi-pierced, DM stomping, clad in black teen (but at least I don't have to prom dress shop Grin). We bought ours from Laura Ashley in the end and it was very non-traditional, cotton jersey and printed. Compared to some of the girls, who looked like they were going to a dinner dance at the local golf club, she looked pretty and simply dressed.

My colleagues are all revolting, as in 'revolution, revolting'. More resignations, recriminations and general huffiness. Makes life quite exciting!

Yeah to the Cleaner, CV.

Strength to crepeys for the next few days....

bigTillyMint · 12/03/2014 08:19

Good move, CV!

Addle, will bear your DS's prom-dress service in mind if when DD gets to that stage next year.

Re teens, arse-roasting we can doSmile It's the more complex teen mind issues that are way out of my competence.

motherinferior · 12/03/2014 08:32

Wassup, BTM?

wilbur · 12/03/2014 09:43

Sorry to hear of so much stress and bother with the Crepeys - I think there is something in the air. My best mate found out yesterday that her husband's brother has committed suicide, apparently over some kind of business/marriage failure. It's just so sad, for his kids and the rest of his family (his parents are both still alive). My friend is the one who is finally 6 months pregnant after trying everything forever, and this summer was supposed to be the happiest time ever and now it is filled with inquests and sadness. Sad It's shit.

Stropperella · 12/03/2014 10:15

I think maybe charity shops in rural Dorset are a bit different than in big cities. I asked about prom dresses yesterday. The people in Oxfam looked at me as if I were a bit mad. Grin
MrsS, I really hope there are some answers soon about your MIL.

Rudy, wishing you strength in dealing with the hospital stuff with your DM.

BD, you never know, maybe your email will just have the desired effect and shut your colleague up!

Oh how I wish I could afford a cleaner. That would remove a whole load of resentment from my life. Although I like to think that forcing my dcs to do chores does provide them with a vital part of the education. It is someone else's behaviour that gives me the rage. No, having a deadline does not mean you are absolved from basic household stuff. Doh! I still have to do the laundry, food shopping, cooking etc etc AND work, fgs. After 11 years of telling him home truths about these matters time and again, it is seriously tempting to reduce my input in the domestic area to the same level as his and wait for social services to come round and collect the dcs. Angry Anyway, same old, same old...

BTM, my sympathies. Dd did both her GCSE orals last week, got an A* in both and then had 2 days off with severe chest pain. We had one rush visit to the GP, various tests. Looks like it was all down to anxiety. Not that she'll admit to that... God knows what it will be like during the 6 joyous weeks of exams coming up soon.

Stropperella · 12/03/2014 10:16

x-posts, wilbur. How terribly sad for your friend. Sad

bigTillyMint · 12/03/2014 10:29

WilburSad for your friend.

Stropps, sympathies from me too - anxiety (DD) here still ongoing. Not easily fixed, as you knowConfused

motherinferior · 12/03/2014 10:45

Oh Wilbur Sad

On a lighter note, DD1 has discovered the Dark Romance genre. I have told her I will disown her if she reads Twilight. She reassures me that she's not going to, but is otherwise glued to various books, looking up only to snarl vaguely.

I would actually find black clothes, DMs and piercings easier to understand than floppy pretty stuff. With unicorns on it. DD1 is awash with unicorns.

Blackduck · 12/03/2014 11:01

Wilbur :(

Colleague apologised :)

Stropps - don't get me started on the domestic chore split I might explode....

Here I am having traumas that I am failing ds on the school front by not stumping up for the private school and sending him to the local state number (with the bad OFSTED) - not helped by all the children who got into the grammars in the city we moved out of....sigh

On other news I am seriously stretching myself doing KS3 maths questions with ds (I don't remember learning any of this!)

BTM - much strength.....

lalsy · 12/03/2014 11:05

Wilbur, how terribly sad, just awful.

Beachy, exactly about the golf club look, it is oddly middle aged.

Stropps, Shock about chest pains and anxiety, far too much too young.

herbaceous · 12/03/2014 11:31

What delights I have to come. Over my O levels I had a hideous disease - blotches all over, high temperature, blinding headache - which at the time was diagnosed as measles, but looking back I wonder if it was psychosomatic. Back then I was a master at bottling stuff up...

Little DS this morning was all sad about his eye. "Why don't you have a special eye, mummy?"
Me: Because I'm not special like you. I just have ordinary eyes.
DS, crying: "I just want ordinary eyes too, mummy"
Me: some blather about everyone being different, glasses, braces, etc. Not sure he bought it.

bigTillyMint · 12/03/2014 11:34

Well done, Herbs - good response. Poor wee thing.

motherinferior · 12/03/2014 11:37

Oh Herbs Sad This is a long shot, but would the lovely people at Changing Faces be any help? They're usually about facial disfigurement, but would be good on this, I suspect, as well. Chief exec is a man of utter loveliness, too.

BD, he will be fine. Really. Is a bright child, school will be making special efforts, lots of family support; really he will.

We split chores fairly fairly, iykwim, which means both of us feel unspeakably put-upon. T'ai chi aside, obviously. He was off doing it TWO nights this week and is then bogging off to Brussels for work tomorrow night.

herbaceous · 12/03/2014 11:41

Ah yes, MI. I remember you mentioning Changing Faces before. I even got as far as looking at the website before being distracted by a mote of dust, or similar.

We split stuff pretty fairly, I reckon. I don't feel put-upon, which probably means I'm not doing my fair share. I'm naturally a lazy slattern.

I do the grunt work - shopping, most of the cooking, dishwasher, daily kitchen clearance, bathroom - while DP does a dramatic Saturday morning kitchen blitz and general hoover. But as he works five days a week, and I don't, this seems fair.

herbaceous · 12/03/2014 12:29

I remember now. I'd looked at the CF website, but all the useful info for children wasn't working. It now is, and is v useful. Various worksheets, etc, which will be great when he's just a little bit older. For now I'll stick to the 'everyone is different, but everyone's the same' mantra. And the 'if anyone teases you, tell me and I'll come and beat the shit out of them' mantra.

hattymattie · 12/03/2014 13:01

Just typed a long message and lost it. Really to say I'm so sorry to hear of everybody's trials and tribulations. Wilbur how awful for your friend just when everything seemed to be coming together.

My relatively minor complaint is that the hay fever season has started with a vengeance and some weird gland under my right eye has swollen up making me look like I've been slapped.

Addle I think I've got you on FB if you're the one lying on her front on a beach (I think)

bigTillyMint · 12/03/2014 16:00

Yes that is addle - looking very glamSmile

Am just partaking of a post work coffee in a fairly new French bakery/cafe. He served it in a teacup and seems to have some sort of sung Eucharist on the radioConfused

bigTillyMint · 12/03/2014 16:01

Nice chandeliers though, and the cakes/pastries look authenticSmile

QueenQueenie · 12/03/2014 16:05

Psst! Are you sure it's a cafe, not a church?

QueenQueenie · 12/03/2014 16:06

Is there a smell of incense?
