Help me choose a handbag please!

I've just got an amazing new job, and I want to celebrate by buying a fab new handbag with my first paycheck!

The trouble is, I'm covering three, and can't decide which one I want first!! Please give your opinion as to which ones are nice/not so nice... The three I'm trying to decide between are:

Mulberry Oversized Alexa - love the braided leather strap, the slouchy leather, and the cool, slung over your shoulder look it has. Am slightly worried about it being a bit dated though, and it's a bit casual.

Prada Saffiano Tote - the one with the two zips... I love the leather, love the organisation of the pockets, and love how classic it looks, but wonder if it's a bit too dressy for every day use.

Givenchy Antigona - love that it's very clean and classic, but not sure if it's big enough?

Please help me decide!

Both mulberry and Prada ones.

I wouldn't be able to decide between tem and they are not similar enough to only choose one!

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 16:42

Argh, Beaver that's the answer I'm trying to get away from!!

I wouldn't go with givenchy, their bags are seasonal, and chances are they might be discontinued,

The prada is ok-ish, but too formal for daily use I think.

Mulberry,I don't know,

Sorry not helpful at all Smile, but I would choose, celine or bottega veneta, or maybe a chanel shopper instead .

TheHandbagOfGlory · 01/03/2014 16:56

If you search MelSoldera on YouTube, she has a Givency Antigona and I think she's done a What's In My Bag or at least a review of it so you would get a better idea of the size and what it holds?

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 16:58

Not a fan of Chanel at all, and think the Celine ones are a bit too WAG-ish... I do like Bottega Veneta, but I don't really love any of their bags at the minute.

Good to know about the Givenchy being seasonal though, definitely something to consider.

Ah, that's brilliant Glory, cheers! I'll go watch now!

Links?

santamarianovella · 01/03/2014 17:04

If you want to avoid a "wag-ish" bag then prada and givenchy is owned by every "wag" out there, there are no wag free bags,

TheHandbagOfGlory · 01/03/2014 17:05

Just realised she also has the Prada Saffiano tote here

She also has 2 Birkins and just about every other handbag you can think of!

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 17:18

SantaMaria I know that WAGS have all the "designer" bags, but there are certain ones that are known for being a bit more waggy than others, iykwim?

I know what you, mean regina but that didnt stop me from owning 3 celine bags Wink, we all wear things differently, for example you wouldn't see me wearing one with daffodils louboutin ,and a size too small Stella McCartney dress.

mrsrhodgilbert · 01/03/2014 17:34

The leather on that Mulberry is a lot less slouchy than the old leather so it may not be too casual. I sat next to one in a cafe last week and it was a lot more upright than my soft leather one next to it on the bench!

QueenCadbury · 01/03/2014 17:37

Going on looks alone I like the givenchy best.

bunnymother · 01/03/2014 17:39

I like the look of the Givenchy. A friend has one and loves it.

BrennanHasAMangina · 01/03/2014 17:43

Thanks for the pictures Smile.

Mulberry is the least wag-y, I think.

MotherBluestocking · 01/03/2014 17:45

I would rule out the Alexa - been carried by too many people for too long. The Prada is divine - what colour were you thinking of? In black it might be a bit formal but in a funky colour could work off- as well as on-duty. There are a lot of fakes around though...
Givenchy - also divine. But agree that it might quite quickly lose its cutting edge. How long are you planning to keep it?

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 17:49

Mrshod is the leather that different? That's a shame, I really love the slouchy look, was just hoping the leather would soften up and start slouching after some use. Hmm...

I love the look of the Givenchy, but it's slightly annoying that it doesn't have many internal pockets... That's one thing I love about the Prada.

I would probably go for either black or a light grey in the Prada, but is a downside that there are a ton of knockoffs around...

OP posts:
ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 17:52

Don't know about how long I'd keep it... I definitely wouldn't but a bag with a goal of re-selling it though. If I ever needed the room/money/etc., I'd maybe sell it, but assume I'd just keep it until it's no longer any good to me!

OP posts:
santamarianovella · 01/03/2014 17:56

regina why should you be worried about knockoffs?if its something you like and You certainly know its the real deal, and that's all that should matter, hermes and LV bags are copied all the time, but I can spot a fake one,its not that very difficult to distinguish.

madammecholet · 01/03/2014 18:01

Givenchy... or Prada.

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 18:22

I know knockoffs shouldn't matter, but I'm always a bit judgy and dubious of people who I think have knockoffs (girls my age normally, as I'm quite young, and most people my age probably can't afford bags like this), so I guess I'm just a bit wary that my judgy karma will bite me in the arse!

Love the mulberry Smile

pseudonymity · 01/03/2014 19:03

They all have prominent branding which would put me off. I like the Alexa but it's out of fashion (if that bothers you?). The Givenchy is lovely.

Cheesymonster · 01/03/2014 19:12

I have a girl crush on MelSodera.

Op it sounds like you really like the prada. Let us know which you choose!
