Help me choose a handbag please!

I've just got an amazing new job, and I want to celebrate by buying a fab new handbag with my first paycheck!

The trouble is, I'm covering three, and can't decide which one I want first!! Please give your opinion as to which ones are nice/not so nice... The three I'm trying to decide between are:

Mulberry Oversized Alexa - love the braided leather strap, the slouchy leather, and the cool, slung over your shoulder look it has. Am slightly worried about it being a bit dated though, and it's a bit casual.

Prada Saffiano Tote - the one with the two zips... I love the leather, love the organisation of the pockets, and love how classic it looks, but wonder if it's a bit too dressy for every day use.

Givenchy Antigona - love that it's very clean and classic, but not sure if it's big enough?

Please help me decide!

I really love the Givenchy Antigona, I don't have a city type job but if I did that's the bag I would want to carry!

Maybe the Prada is more of a classic, but for me the Givenchy is a real stop-and-stare power item. Love it.

It is gorgeous, isn't it?! Right, think I've gone off the Alexa, so just between the Givenchy and the Prada... I do love the internal structure of the Prada, but I just love the look of the Givenchy...

Anyone have either one and can recommend or dissuade me? Alternatively, any ideas of one with the looks of the Givenchy but pockets of the Prada?

The Mulberry link isn't working for me. Can't you just buy one of the fold-up Lonchamp things?

I like a nice small handbag for personal bits but I couldn't give a stuff about what I use as the briefcasey type thing. Make TK Max your friend. Nobody really cares anyway.

Having said that I once saw a luffly handbag to die for in Asprey's back window and though "golly, that's so beautiful I'd spend £500 on it". I googled when I got home. £8,000. No wonder I liked it but I think I'd rather spend my money in Accessorize and save my capital Grin

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 21:18

Have a ton of Longchamp bags, but they're not really comparable to one of these Grin

Know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love nice handbags; it's what I enjoy spending my hard-earned money on. Loads of people do actually care about bags, myself included, so while I appreciate your input, I'm after something a bit better than what you can buy at Accessorize.

I agree Reg - just playing devil's advocate.

Vickiyumyum · 01/03/2014 21:28

I have an oak mulberry oversized Alexa. It looks great but is very casual to me.

I have a friend with the prada and it's divine. I love it. I brought a Chloe Marcie not that long ago or I'd be looking for a prada one.

ReginaldBlinker · 01/03/2014 23:33

I do love the old Alexa's, but if they've changed the leather, that's definitely not what I want. The whole point of me wanting one was the effortlessly-cool, slouchy style of it....

Prada

Drywhiteplease · 02/03/2014 00:10

Givenchy

ReginaldBlinker · 02/03/2014 00:27

Uh oh... Have just seen the Saint Laurent Sac du jour...

Prada wins hands down for me, but I'm a bit Prada fan. Don't like Mulberry and they're everywhere, the Givenchy is a bit conservative.

bunnymother · 02/03/2014 07:26

Is that YSL the YSL that Claire Underwood uses a lot in house of cards?

ReginaldBlinker · 02/03/2014 09:55

No, it's quite similar to a Birkin in a lot of ways, but like that it is less blingy.

Oh, I love it!

carrielou2007 · 02/03/2014 11:44

I bought a mulberry in the sale after Christmas and was so pleased I bought another (for going back to work after mat leave 3) an oversized Alexa in oak. It was £595 at the outlet my eye (only have one Wink) nearly popped out of my head! Not used it yet waiting for tge end of the rain Smile

TheHandbagOfGlory · 02/03/2014 11:46

Ooh, I love the YSL!

TheHandbagOfGlory · 02/03/2014 11:51

Video review of it

Sorry, I'm a bit obsessed by what's in my bag videos Grin

BrandyAlexander · 02/03/2014 12:36

I have the Prada, and can really recommend it. It's a stunning bag. Gets complimented a lot when I use it. I use it mostly for work and it really pulls an outfit together. Grin At the idea of it being wag-ish. I love the grey version.

I have and love other Mulberrys but I am less of a fan of the oversize Alexa. I think it's a personal taste thing- I am a bit small person and it overwhelm me.

Last vote would be the Givenchy. I am not sure why, but I think of as pretty but nondescript.

Enjoy whichever bag you get!

WhereIsMyHat · 02/03/2014 13:17

Givenchy or mulberry, I really dislike the prada bag.

Drywhiteplease · 02/03/2014 13:20

Novice and WAG in the same sentence Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

WhereIsMyHat · 02/03/2014 13:27

Scrap that,the YSL in grey.

ScooseIsLoose · 02/03/2014 13:33

I have an oversized Alexa in conker I love it fits loads in and is so practical

Puddles1234 · 02/03/2014 13:41

I have the Prada Saffiano Tote and it is a lovely bag but not a statement piece. I much prefer my Givenchy Antigona totes.

To be honest I am a avid collector of handbags. What about a Hermes Birkin or Kelly? I have so many Birkins and Kellys and they wear so well and if looked after last forever.

The Celine Phantoms are gorgeous and so well made. Much better then a Mulberry Alexa.

Chanel Cerf tote or GST are also fabulous.

BrandyAlexander · 02/03/2014 14:22

Grin Dry, yes I would be like this --->Shock and perhaps die of laughter if someone told me I reminded them of a wag. I certainly wouldn't avoid a handbag because the wags have them although I have avoided bags for being somewhat ubiquitous.
