sorry to be so personal!

im a 14 top and bottom. i used to be pear shaped but as ive got bigger i seem to be pretty even top and bottom. im not ecstatic to be a size 14, because i used to be a size 8. ive just got totally fed up of diets and my will power has all but gone.

im just curious as to what size boobs people have who are the same size as me.
im 5ft 4 and weigh 10st 10 at the moment. a little more than normal - but i just had an operation on my stomach and thought i would lose weight because of it so i basically ate what i wanted over xmas - mistake.
normally i weigh between 10st 4 and 10st 8.
cant quite believe ive not lost weight after the op but i havent.

i would prefer ideally to weigh 9st 7 but not been there for about 4 years.

i have just had to buy new bras. i am now a 34 DD. (pencil test still passed....! Smile

i feel matronly and too big.

Yes, Statistically, my back and arms are quite big, but I have a smaller waist - hence hourglass. I think my "actual" intervention measurement should be something like 32-34" D/DD, but it just doesn't work. I am very solid around that area with literally and absolutely nothing to scoop. I could go braless if I never had to run or jump. I just wear very simple cotton bras, which I don't notice/remember at all when I am wearing them.

goodasitgets · 22/02/2014 14:19

Technically a size 14 but am a 32/34JJ so have to wear a 16 to get my boobs in Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 14:25

Apologies Toys I hope you didn't think I was trying to be rude - just trying to explain how body shape influences bra size and it's not just about what dress size you wear! I'm the opposite - I'm hourglass because of my actual boobs rather than my ribs if that makes sense, so I have a lot of issues with bagging at the back of clothes.

My mum sounds like she has the same issues as you - she has a very "solid" ribcage. In her case she has a much smaller bottom half (due to an accident), but she has to wear a slightly looser size due to the solid ribs and having a hernia!

poopooheadwillyfatface · 22/02/2014 14:26

Apple shaped 14 here, in 36DD. Not in need of bra intervention, my bras fit well to the chest wall etc, just fat around tummy and ribs. Some clothes or badly shaped bras can make me look matronly/like I have a shelf for a bust. I like Freya, Lepel, Chantelle mainly for a nice shape and good fit. And I look pretty crap in high round necks or cowl necks - I'm short with slim legs but large of belly so I can easily look top heavy.

wfrances · 22/02/2014 14:27

ive lost weight recently and it looks like its all come from my chest
my 36c bras are too big so I don't get how a dd will fit me ?
im confused.
ilovepowerhoop -yep

ToysRLuv · 22/02/2014 14:29

No, it's fine, Statistically! Just explaining to anyone else reading that I really am one of those outliers. I've cried over many a leather jacket/blazer that won't fit or do up because of my stupid shoulders/ribs.. I quite like having smallish boobs, though. My problem areas are below the waist where you could probably scoop a bit here and there Grin

ToysRLuv · 22/02/2014 14:31

Maybe next there should be a pants intervention - no more VPL, camel toe or wedgies!

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 14:31

wfrances - basically, cup sizes aren't the same in different bands. A 34C is not the same as a 36C.

Roughly (very roughly), as you down a band size, you would have to go up a cup size to keep exactly the same volume. Now, you've said you get overspill when you scoop. That means your cups are currently too small - hence why you need to try a 34DD. The reason your bras feel too big is because they are too big in the back. When that happens, all bets are off because the bra can't hold itself up against your breasts properly.

I bought a new bra recently. Tried the 30HH first, and it gaped all over the shop - lots of space at the top, if I moved the cups bagged away from me. I tried the 28J (so same cup volume) and the gaping was totally fixed because it was no longer too loose in the back

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 14:37

Where as I have the opposite - i get to cry over gorgeous jackets that I can only ever wear open. Or, if they fit my boobs I have no waist and look like I have a second set of boobs at the back because all the extra fabric sort of bummfles out.

flippinada · 22/02/2014 14:39

Vicar I'm a 12-14 and wear a 32H/34GG depending on the bra, also a similar weight and height to you. I'm sure you don't look at all matronly!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 22/02/2014 14:43

Hi! I got measured at bravissimo and they put me at 32e in panache idina and a Cleo one. I measure 29/38. Am I just solid or would you check with another fitter?

addictedtosugar · 22/02/2014 14:43

14, heavier than most of you on here. 5'7".
32G / 30GG bras.

As far as I can tell, wfrances a C cup in a 40 and 30 back will look very different, so if you seriously take the back size down (ie by the 4-5 inches M&S add), the cup can then increase and still fit.

Give it a go - I went to an independent after finishing feeding DS1, as the 40 something feeding bras I'd been "fitted" in were making my back ache. The 34 F's I was put into made me look like I'd lost a stone overnight. Amazing. Sorrel and the others sound like they can make similar improvements. Give it a go, everyone. Tape measure, and follow Sorrells guidance.

treaclesoda · 22/02/2014 14:48

I feel your frustration statistically I gave up wearing anything that buttons up the front, because they just don't button.

I'm about size 12/14 and a 32G/GG although I've slimmed down a bit recently and think I need to try a 30H. Even though I know it's the same cup size as I'm already wearing, that H is a significant letter to me, and one that upsets me a bit, but if that's what I need, then that's what I need.

Incidentally, I had breast reduction surgery 15 years ago. They grow back. But strangely, even though I am the same bra size now as I was pre surgery, I am actually much more comfortable, and a much better shape, and of course bras themselves have come on fantastically in the last 15 years.

SinglePringle · 22/02/2014 14:53

Size 12 is slightly too big. Size 10 is slightly too small.
Hourglass shape
32E when measured 4 months ago.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 14:54

That sounds a bit strange thereslotsoffarmyardanimals - how do they feel?

treaclesoda I hated going up to (and past) an H the first time. Were you an H pre-reduction? One of my friends was reduced and hers are gradually growing back too, but are in better condition as she's not had a length period of wearing too big bands with inadequate support.

treaclesoda · 22/02/2014 15:04

I was a 32GG pre-reduction statistically but that probably wasn't my true size. GG was the biggest cup size I could get and 32 was the smallest back, I was a Bravissimo customer from their very first mail order catalogue, and I remember the huge excitement of being able to have a choice of 2 bras for the first time in my life.

I made my decision to have surgery the day I summoned up all my courage to go into a large lingerie shop who boasted that they catered for every size. The middle aged woman measured me, tutted, said 'well, you can't expect to get something to fit properly in that size' as if I'd grown these horror boobs to spite her, and then topped it off by calling all the other fitters in to look at me 'because it's not often you'll get to see something like this'. Bitch. I cried for days, then took myself off to the doctor.

It's why I am so passionate about proper bra fitting - it turns out I wasn't freak after all, I just thought I was.

prettybird · 22/02/2014 15:08

I'm now a 12-14 (after a successful Boot Camp where I lost over two stone), weigh 10 stone 6lb and am a 34DD. I'm 5 ft 5".

Pencil test still passes and I'm 52! Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 15:08

That sort of story makes me so angry. We still hear quite a lot of it and at both ends of the spectrum. We've had quite a few ladies who've been to shops (hate to say but M&S are regular culprits), been told that they can't be fitted because they don't really need a bra, their breasts are so tiny that they'll never fill a bra...blablabla.

The insanity is that most the them turn out to be a C/D/DD, just in a much smaller band size.

I remember going in to a lingerie boutique near me which advertised up to HH cups, asking about a bra they had (which I knew came in that size) and being told they didn't have it, closest was a 32F. She was very, very put out when I refused to try and wedge myself in to it.

treaclesoda · 22/02/2014 15:13

is it wrong to say that I laughed an evil laugh when the shop closed down a few years ago? Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2014 16:23

Nope! No excuse for rudeness imo

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 22/02/2014 19:06

Currently a size 14 (the biggest I've ever been) 8 months after having DS.

Fucking hate them! Angry
