The Anti-Color Analysis Thread

FrugalFashionista · 21/02/2014 09:18

This is a safe space for anyone who
(tick any that apply)

  • wants to burn her scarves
  • will scream if someone goes semantic on 'Oyster'
  • does not want to be made to wear lipstick
  • is not looking forward to the next Kettlewell catalogue
  • does not identify with any particular season
  • will never ever do a style day
  • has self-diagnosed Stockholm syndrome
  • is tired of the tireless marketing drum of color analysis on S&B

I realize I may be endorsing an unpopular view but this thread here is for anyone who does not want to discuss color.

C'mon, am I the only one?
Raise your hand...

PS I will send a crappy lipstick personally chosen for me by a color analyst to the first taker. It's a shimmery peachy tone that has no staying power and streaks your teeth. But don't worry, it will make you look a million times better.

Such a great story about the expert in retail who had her colours done and came away with the message that all middle aged women should wear swamp colours. Yeah, coz that's what colour analysis is about -classifying everyone by age .

I'm also amazed at all the people who were told that they could only wear beige or khaki. What season were you told you were? I've never see a palette that only contained beige or khaki. Please spill the beans, I'm intrigued.

Could you post a photo of your palette please, so we can join in the fun ?

coffeeinbed · 22/02/2014 08:12

I never really understood why I have to go pay someone to tell me what colours I can wear.

I do have a mirror after all.

evelynj · 22/02/2014 08:21

Frugal, it seems that you are upset as you spent a lot of money getting your wardrobe redone etc & then deciding it's not totally right for you?

I can understand that-I had colour & style day 6 months ago & really enjoyed it, probably more for the style than the colour. I heartily recommend it if someone can afford it. However, I have some lbds in my wardrobe that I won't be throwing away & although grey isn't supposed to be my best colour, I love it & will wear it. My HoC consultant doesn't run after me checking that I'm always in my palette-she couldn't give a monkeys. I will wear what I want but feel better usually in my 'season' colours. Like everything else in life, I see it as take what you like and leave the rest.

Also it's about what fits your lifestyle-my consultant works with ladies with £££ to spend on designer garb but when I said I buy most of my stuff from charity shops as have little disposable income she was very good at recommending typical things I could find of high quality, (which I already knew but nice to see she was so adaptable iykwim).

I'm happy to try out anything that gets me out of the house for a day & away from the kids & honestly enjoyed my day so much but I don't think I'm a slave to HoC now. Must go get ready for my chalk painting workshop today, (no really I am!)

Don't usually see this much fucking & cunting on S&B, kinda hope it's contained to this thread ;)

FrugalFashionista · 22/02/2014 09:38

When I started this thread yesterday morning, I didn't expect that many people would join. I just wanted to voice my personal frustration and see whether there are any other disbelivers.

I am pleasantly surprised to see how many have contributed. There are clearly pros and cons to color analysis. People who do not take it too seriously and do not become too dogmatic about the rules and just use it to speed up clothes shopping seem to be the happiest customers. I'm really happy it has worked for you!

Special thanks for MrsCB - handing you a Peace Negotiator prize for your cunning attention diverting tactics! (It's very tasteful - perfect for the mantelpiece, but encrusted with discreet Swarowski crystals... but also enclosing a receipt so you can swap it if it's not 'you' after all.) Your new TV interest is definitely a Hot Season - but of course he should be professionally undraped for the final verdict... Wink

If you love your new colors, please do enjoy them and join one of the many seasonal threads here where you can converse in peace with fellow believers. (I apologize for any ruffled feather boas and promise that I will never ever contribute to any of those threads any more.)

This thread is for skeptics and agnostics because any functioning society needs them.
With or without lipstick and scarves.

And if you are still on a fence, and because everyone loves a good before & after pic, please do consider a makeover - after all, we all need a splash of color in our lives... Wink

Those pics prove its not about the colours for me it's the absolute lack of style in the clothes and hair etc of the whole concept. Buy a magazine for a fiver and look at how they put things together and do make up Those pictures are garish and old fashioned. Frugal I am sorry you wasted your money but you are FREE Grin

Emo76 · 22/02/2014 09:52

Thank goodness you are here frugal, to provide a "safe" place for all this bitching. So great that you are "pleasantly surprised" at the reaction. Hope it helps your work.

Gillybobs · 22/02/2014 10:07

Frugal you do realise all those pictures you are pinning are actual people who may see themselves being ridiculed and mocked?

This has become so distatestful

You have a lot of time on your hands

passata · 22/02/2014 10:28

Your pinterest board is mean and spiteful. You may think you're hilarious frugal but you're mocking people who didn't ask to play your game. Shame on you.

bunnymother · 22/02/2014 10:30

I'm sorry, I haven't been able to get past using manly flesh for lipstick. If DH finds out, I think I will find myself booked in for colour analysis, pronto.

RipMacWinkle · 22/02/2014 10:32

I agree with Gilly and emo

The tone on this thread is just mean and linking to other people's personal pins to mock is beyond low.

Get the colour thing, don't get the colour thing (btw is Frugal in the US?) it's different strokes for different folks.

AntPants1 · 22/02/2014 10:40

Evelyn, EMO and Gillybobs I applaud you for being the voices of reason and common sense.

AntPants1 · 22/02/2014 10:42

Oh and Frugal I am just echoing what midnight said further up the thread. I can't help feeling this board is a research project for you or that you are seeking to create a following.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 10:45

Yy that Pinterest board is exactly my memory of HOC.
It still hasn't turned me off the idea of finding my colours though...just not in that crazed way

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 10:47

Gosh Frugal, you seem to have been told off

I hope you are coping

Perhaps a jaunty scarf will help lift your spirits

Emo76 · 22/02/2014 10:51

Ronald next you will be suggesting bright yellow and red stripes, with very pale foundation and a bright colour pop lip, perfect for restaurant outings.....

Many of the photos on that Pin board are very dated, nobody is forcing anyone to get their colours done, some people have found it useful and interesting, when I had it done nobody mentioned flesh coloured lipstick, not sure where that's coming from.

Someone asked where frugal is, Italy I believe.

Mitchell2 · 22/02/2014 10:58

That link in genius OP.... My life is now complete that I know Obama is a soft autumn.

On a serious note, I honestly don't understand this obsession for some getting their colors done. But again, I basically just wear black so they wouldn't understand me either Grin

Mitchell2 · 22/02/2014 11:04

Btw before the flaming... Each to their own re the before and after pics (and the internet is littered with them and not these types).. but come on... that Obama pic is funny.

Emo76 · 22/02/2014 11:12

I agree the Obama pic is funny. But the sneering, high fiving, and attempt once again from Frugal to create a following, possibly as part of a work related project, is not. Given we are all just fuelling Frugal/Dona's fire that's my last word on this.

noddyholder · 22/02/2014 11:13

A following? For not liking HOC? If that was the case I would have had one on here years ago!

FrugalFashionista · 22/02/2014 11:17

Bunny I might make an exception to the no lipstick rule for a manly flesh toned one...

I don't get the ire and personal attacks - everyone in the pics (except Obama, I believe) is there because they are either color analysts or color analysis customers undergoing personal transformations. All pictures are taken from the public websites of color analysts who advertise their services (some are from the current HoC official site actually). Yes I can take the board down, but the pictures will remain on the Internet - Google image search "color analysis" and "colour analysis" and you will find them. Please do contact your color analyst if your picture is posted on the Internet against your will. (Obama, you will just have to tough this out.)

I really love the conspiracy theories out there. I'm aware of another rumor stating that I'm actually a CIA spy working undercover as a SAHM - believe what you may Wink - but sadly I do not conduct research on color analysis, have never been a color analyst, and am not currently planning on becoming one...

If you want to join the cult, feel free to send me more money! Wink
I promise not to go Jim Jones on y'all...

I repeat, if you are a firm believer, please join one of the seasonal threads. No one will shatter your sand castle there.

santamarianovella · 22/02/2014 11:19

I don't think frugal is doing any research of any sort, and if you are a reader of her threads and posts, you would know that she is very informative,
I think most of the people here are just trying to voice, their scepticism, you have to admit that there is an indirect advertisement for HOC on s&b,

There was an anti designer handbag thread a while ago, no one who loves handbags joined to voice their point of views.or expressed their anger towards such threads.

So why can't we voice our doubts,?

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 11:25

noddy darling I've been following you for years
Sometimes you step on my clown shoes

santamarianovella · 22/02/2014 11:27

frugal I think you will do great as a CIA agent, wearing muted neutral tones, won't get you noticed. and you can easily blend in. Wink

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 11:29

I had never even considered the poor CIA and FBI never being able to have their eyes pop
Poor bastards
