A "non wedding" wedding dress!

Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 17:54

My mum is getting married, she's in her 50s and its her 2nd wedding so she doesn't want a white bridal dress. She has something in her mind but has yet to find what she's looking for, so I'm bringing the challenge to you clever people!

Her idea is a long evening type gown, with sleeves, in either a gold or a green or purple/red. She doesn't have a budget as such, but ideally less than £500 but she will pay more for the right dress!

Show me what you got Grin

Oooh, lovely! What size does she take?

themessyapron · 17/02/2014 18:07

How dressy does she want to be? I would personally go for knee length rather than full length.

Purple blue with sleeves www.net-a-porter.com/intl/product/394358

Metallic but not gold and if she has decent legs www.net-a-porter.com/intl/product/390764

Hm not really much else on Net a Porter. They have a knee length red V Westwood but prob isn't dressy enough for you. Not much full length

You have to sign up but have a look at Wish Want Wear. They hire out fab designer dresses you usually wouldn't be able to afford buying.

She wants to go quite dressy, just not white and obviously bridal! She takes a 16 but is hoping to be a 14 by the wedding (sept).

Ill see if I can find something that's similar to the idea she has for an example.

too floaty?
too plain?
if it was a winter wedding this could be so elegant.
dramatic?

Whatever she chooses, it's generally wise to buy a little big and have it altered to perfection.

MrsLettuce · 17/02/2014 19:06

This is sleeveless but would be amazingly flattering

Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 19:22

Ooo I love the 2nd and 3rd ones, have sent her the links!

Ann Bolan is a nice designer. My DM wore one of her collection when she got married to my DSdad. We also sold it on and got about 1/3 of the cost back.

harbinger · 17/02/2014 19:42

The third one, Ariella Rafaella dress is stunning. Wow

How tall is DM?

Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 19:47

She's about 5"5! She really likes both those dresses I have sent her so we are on the right track!

OP posts:
Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 19:55

The Ann Bolan dresses are nice, but possibly a little too mumsy. I don't mean that in an offensive way, they just arnt quite right for my DM.

harbinger · 17/02/2014 19:55

She is tall enough to look beautiful in either.

Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 20:01

I'm trying to convince her on the velvet one, I can totally see her in it!

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 17/02/2014 20:29

It is lovely. Leaves a massive shoe budget too Wink

any of the versions of this? Heavy on the £££ though

Lj8893 · 17/02/2014 20:30

Oh wow that's stunning!

burnishedsilver · 17/02/2014 21:22

The velvet one is fabulous. It reminds me of something Helen Mirren would wear.

Laska42 · 18/02/2014 19:57

.. perhaps its a bit Pippa though...

Lj8893 · 18/02/2014 20:13

Ohh that's lovely but the price is ouch!!!

FracturedViewOfLife · 18/02/2014 20:24

Purple lace?

It's not as nice as that gorgeous Temperley one though.

Lj8893 · 18/02/2014 20:53

Ooo another one to send her! Thanks!

OP posts:
Laska42 · 18/02/2014 20:55

nice also fracturedview , but a bit of a shame about the seams down the front ..
Yes the Temperley would be heaven LJ but so many ££££s .Sad

MrsLettuce · 18/02/2014 21:05

Will look further if it's a colour she fancies. I'd no idea she fancied lace either. Are there other colours she'd consider?

schmee · 18/02/2014 21:12

I LOVE that Temperley one. Lower in the price range, how about this www.ghost.co.uk/dye-to-order/taya-satin-and-lace-dress.html?color=159

It's individually dyed so loads of different colour choices and makes it feel a bit special despite the price tag.

Laska42 · 18/02/2014 21:13

I love that first one Mrs L.. quite wish I was getting married again now...
