Bra Intervention

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 15/02/2014 16:02

Last year I was lucky enough to have help on the Bra Intervention threads and bought 4 lovely new bras. Unfortunately I now need help again. Since then I have lost at least a stone and my bras do not feel comfortable at the moment. This isn't helped by muscle pain I am having but I would like to check what size you clever people think I should be wearing.

I have measured. Underneath I am 30 1/2 and leaning forward and across the breasts I am a 39.

TIA Cake.

sinningsaint Try a 34E. Remember that there is no such thing as an A cup. Cup sizes only exist when accompanied by a band size.

ohnothewoodchip · 18/02/2014 13:03

Never had a great experience with fittings anywhere else than bravissimo, who were great and made sure I was properly fitted. They don't use tape measures, they assess how the bra fits on you.it did take a while the first time though. ..

sinningsaint · 18/02/2014 14:36

Sorrel I think I had meant to put 36A and that is why i can't fathom going from an A to an E in just one band size, however after some scooping whilst wearing my best fitting bra last night i realised that could be very possible Blush

FriedSprout · 18/02/2014 17:22

All she is now happily sorted.
M&S Hedge End had no 28e bras - surprise surprise, found a 28c to try the band size and that was way too tight (I may have heard a stitch popping)
So tried a 30d (up a band size and down a cup size, think that is right) and we appear to have found the answer Grin

I have to say though that you are so right about the sizing at M&S. We tried on a quite a few in 30d and some she could not do up around her, others the cups gaped.

Overheard quite a lot of (add 4") fitting being given to first time bra buyers too. So guess that is a lifetime of bra buying using the wrong advice for those poor girls Sad

Thank you again

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2014 17:43

Glad she found something. A 30D is down two cup sizes but as you saw that means naff all in M&S terms! If you get a chance to try any other brands I'd probably still start with the 28E (brands like freya, cleo, curvy kate etc) or maybe the 28DD

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2014 17:44

Ha ha sinningsaint - one of the previous posters who had a similar discrepancy used the description "it looks like my breasts are wearing earmuffs" after scooping in a much too small bra!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 18/02/2014 17:50

I have been getting bras in M&S for 20+ years and only once have I been fitted in a bra that actually fitted. The money I have wasted Sad.

The fitting service at M&S makes me both depressed and angry. As FriedSprout says a few posts above:

"So guess that is a lifetime of bra buying using the wrong advice for those poor girls"

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/02/2014 18:39

The M&S fitting service makes me want to run around their shops in my bra yelling "this is what a good bra looks like" whilst burning the measuring tapes

CharleyFarnsbarns · 18/02/2014 21:41

How come M&S and the rest have got it so wrong? I never trusted that I could really be a 41/42inch round bust with the add 4in method but didn't realise it was all so wildly out.

Thanks for the advice StatisticallyChallenged

sinningsaint · 18/02/2014 23:12

Debenhams has closed by the time i made it into to town so naughtily ventured into marks', where a 34E fit perfectly! There was a fitter free who offered to measure me, i agreed to find out what they are thinking I currently am and she was adamant I was a 38A, even after I had showed her how fab the 34E looked Grin

HazleNutt · 19/02/2014 09:00

sigh. Another "isolated incident" at M&S. How on earth can anybody, even if they are not a bra fitter, see a woman in a well-fitting 34E and still insist they should be 38A? How??

In other news, sorry for the DM link, but there's another size 12 woman complaining about her too small 34B boobs. And check out the last photo - it's like her boobs are wearing hats!

SorrelForbes · 19/02/2014 09:49

Stats Please do it with video evidence

Hazle Please, I'm eating my breakfast Grin. Not one of those pictures shows a well fitting bra. Grrrr.

Bloody M&S. The fitter I had when I did my secret shopper test last year, thought the 36DDs/38Ds she fitted me in, were perfect. Because this annoys me so much, I've posted some pics below. Be kind!

HazleNutt · 19/02/2014 09:57

OMG Sorrel!! That's actually criminal, to claim that this bra fits! It's like squeezing a size 7 foot into a size 5 shoe and claim that it's a great fit and totally normal that your toes are all scrunched up and you're in pain Angry

maybe should send the photos to M&S and ask how they explain this fitting?

SorrelForbes · 19/02/2014 10:03

It's tempting!

Honestly, I don't know how I kept a straight face. The fitter was so nice though that I didn't have the heart to argue. She saw me in my perfectly fitting EM 30GG so she even had something to compare the fit to, but alas, to no avail. The last pic is the 38D. I'm not quite sure what it's meant to be achieving. It just sort of sat there at an angle with the band up round my shoulder blades.

HazleNutt · 19/02/2014 13:05

And if you actually wore those sizes for a few years, I bet you would be signing up for breast reduction, as you couldn't manage the wobbly unsupported boobs and back ache any more..

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 10:42

I've got bhs and m & a and Sainsbury's to try only. 30GG and 30h. Is that right?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 20/02/2014 10:45

M and s only go to a gg but they don't do a ff so their ggiis really a g. Doubt bhs will be much use

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 10:48

Bhs no good. On way to try m and s now

OP posts:
ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 10:49

Still bit confused what size to try. Really don't want to be measured in marks

OP posts:
ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 10:58

Wish me luck. Have 8 to try on.

OP posts:
ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 11:00

30 no good

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 20/02/2014 11:01

Marks sizing iscrap. Small in back and cup as a rule butggenerally erratic

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 11:01

F was worth a try but not good

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 20/02/2014 11:03

32G looks ok. Dare I ask for help as DH in meeting so can't post photo. He's good at knowing sizes.
