How many jumpers and cardigans do you have?

I am just about to move and realised that although I never feel 100% happy with my outfits any more I appear to have way more actual clothes than ever before Hmm
I need to limit but am constantly making excuses to keep certain things for eg an old Hobbs top I used to wear to work that could be smart casual but is cashmere so hard to clean...can't quite throw it out.

I was just looking through Jigsaw's email with their basics range and suddenly had an urge to completely boot out EVERYTHING bar 2 pairs of trousers and start again.

Is this madness? Should I just start with minimising what I have(a drawer full of jumpers and half a wardrobe of cardigans Shock )? How do you choose what stays and goes?

Probably more than 50 Blush. They don't take up that much space and I like having a variety so I can create lots of different looks with layering etc. I admit I have kept a couple of cashmere jumpers with small moth holes! Although I am far from a grungy dresser I sometimes like to wear on days when I'm not leaving the house!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 01/02/2014 10:19

Loads
Thick jumpers
Thin jumpers
Long sleeved cardies
Mid sleeve cardies

vitaminC · 01/02/2014 10:29

Around 50-60 I would say.

30-ish warm, winter ones (cashmere, merino, angora etc).
10-15 light/cropped/summery ones
10 year-round ones

I own far more knitwear than any other type of garment. I would say pare down on the t-shirts, trousers etc, but nice knitwear will always be useful (assuming it fits and is in good shape)!

Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 10:40

Ah, you lot are making me feel normal!
I have this idea of the capsule wardrobe (which I seem to think about every 5 months or so!) where everything works and matches. I think I used to do this more when I was working, so trying to get back to having what works only, not just accumulating for comfort/ease of washing/because it fits my monkey arms etc.

Have maybe 40 Cashmere jumpers and cardigans.I obviously have a cashmere obsession as I just love the softness and comfort of it.Many of them were bought in Asia where they are cheaper.I don't find them difficult to look after as I machine wash on a cool wool wash.Am now lusting after the Whistles sorbet coloured sweaters(am currently wearing one of 3 Ettie cashmere sweaters everyday).

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 01/02/2014 12:45

About 3 or 4.

We don't have a lot of space and I've massively decluttered recently with a view to only keeping things I wear/love etc.

Do people really get a chance to wear 50 jumpers over a winter?! That's only one or two wears an item.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 01/02/2014 12:46

Ah teta you make my point - you're rotating 3 jumpers which you are actually wearing... what are you doing with the other 40!?

Although if you have space, and love them, no harm in it!

GinUtero · 01/02/2014 12:57

Um..just had a count in my wardrobe and there's well over 100 jumpers and cardigans…

...and that's just the ones I still like / still fit. Many MANY more in the loft waiting to be put on ebay and loads that I've sold / given away already! Blush

TulipOHare · 01/02/2014 13:05

Well, I was about to post that I had loads, but compared to previous comments, I don't have that many. Maybe 30 or so. I love them all. They are wool and cashmere, some chunky, some fine, all have been worn enough to justify their price tags. I don't use my heating unless it's seriously cold, so most days during the winter I wear a top, a fine jumper and a chunky one.

It gives me a real sense of satisfaction to flick through them all in the wardrobe and pick one to wear, and I love the feeling of being chilly and then putting on a beautiful snuggly jumper. Very comforting.

I've put myself on a knitwear ban, now, though, as I really do have more than enough.

PaperBagPrincess · 01/02/2014 13:08

I rarely wear jumpers. I have two merino v-neck sweaters in camel and teal, and a couple of thin, quite fitted black v-neck sweaters. That's it.

I have about 10 cardis, mostly cheap little cropped cardis from the high street in classic colours, just to bung on over shirt sleeved dresses if its. Hilly.

A few things you love over loads of stuff youre so/so about, every time!

PaperBagPrincess · 01/02/2014 13:08

*chilly

Aquelven · 01/02/2014 13:23

Far, far too many, easily over a hundred. As well as having a thing about cashmere, with a fairly local cashmere factory outlet that I visit much too often, I'm a manic knitter & there are SO many tempting pure wool/cashmere yarns.
I have more jumpers & cardigans than any other type of clothes.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 01/02/2014 13:42

Goodness I really feel the cold, so it's only the three thickest ones that don't get year round use. Even in the height of summer I'll always have a thin cardy in my bag.

antimatter · 01/02/2014 13:44

6 and I wear them to work and casual
no space for more, they also get out of fashion so I prefer to replace 2-3 a year

MinesAPintOfTea · 01/02/2014 13:54

20-30

Half of those are set to one side as I don't think they flatter me any more but I can't bring myself to charity shop them until I've stopped bfing.

Viviennemary · 01/02/2014 13:59

I thought I had far too many till I read this. Sigh of relief. Probably about 12 or so cardigans and 20 jumpers.

Badvoc · 01/02/2014 14:02

1 cardi
4 jumpers

LightastheBreeze · 01/02/2014 14:06

I have about 30-40 of varying thickness, a few are chunky, about 5 cashmere, some I've had years, and only wear couple of times a year and quite a few plain work cardigans and jumpers (synthetic Next and M&S ones).

I bought 4 new ones in the Xmas sales and will probably throw away 5-10 at the end of the season, mostly black or navy work cardigans which have been worn to death.

Reading this thread has made me happy as I thought the amount of my jumpers/cardigans was very excessive.

MotherOfChickens · 01/02/2014 14:25

4 jumpers and 2 cardigans, all good quality natural fibres. I've gradually whittled my wardrobe down to just items I love, it's hard work getting there though!

juneybean · 01/02/2014 14:26

Far too many cardigans, pretty much one in every colour.

Jumpers I have a few but don't wear them very much

Abzs · 01/02/2014 14:26

Around 20 of each. But I keep telling myself I'll wear more jumpers next winter if I'm not bf anymore so I haven't culled any like I probably should have.

naturelover · 01/02/2014 14:33

5 cardis, 8 jumpers, total.
I would love more clothes, but can't afford to buy much, ever.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 01/02/2014 14:37

I have about 20 cardigans and zero jumpers. I hate how I look and feel in jumpers so don't buy them. I tend to wear dresses so cardigans are better for layering up anyway.

PrimalLass · 01/02/2014 14:44

About 3 jumpers that I like and a drawerfull that I don't. Ditto cardigans. They will not still be resident here by next winter.

TheJumped · 01/02/2014 15:06

Pale grey cashmere jumper
Grey / pink fairisle jumper
Red fine knit boxy jumper
Black fine knit boxy jumper
Navy merino dolman jumper

Black cardi

That's it I think, that's what I've been wearing all winter on rotation. I also have a couple of jumper dresses from Hush (grey woolly marl and navy) and one from Sainsbos (navy/pink fairisle) they are more like long jumpers for wearing with leggings really. Am Shock at how many people have on here! I have lots of trousers, dresses and tops of all sorts, but knitwear for me is pretty functional so I don't need a huge array. A gazillion scarves to make them interesting, fine!
