Am I alone in really disliking animal print?

I really, really dislike it. I'm happy to see it on others but I just can't see myself in it. I got given a lovely Lola Rose scarf for my birthday but it's an animal print design so I'll never wear it.

KM is only a style icon for people who like her style.

I'd rather have stylish over mutton or mumsy Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:10

Well I like to think I'm uber stylish but what do I know. According to the many 'rules' on mn I am far from it. I wear animal print, I wear white jeans, I use fake tan and I love the ultimate mum boots 'pistols'.

Yes, I am Liz Hurley.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 22:10

MrsCampbellBlack always did like your through a screen so who really knows? You could wear mum boots for all I know style.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 22:11

Haha! Cross post MrsCB! Pistols are not mumboots and you knows it.

Giraffeski · 24/01/2014 22:12

I hate it on me too, I think if one is norky it makes you look cheap.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:12

Single - funny mum boots cross post Smile

Am currently obsessing over control slip for slinky dress at party tomorrow - tis all glamour here Wink

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 22:14

There's the line too animalistic=kat slater
Just right,funky

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:15

Seriously though, I do wish more people would just treat clothes as something fun. I hate all the rules people seem to have.

Some stuff doesn't work on me but I can appreciate it on others.

The constant judging is just dull really. Wear what you like and enjoy it be it a leopard print coat or a seasalt mac.

DancingLady · 24/01/2014 22:16

Are you calling my mum trampy?! Angry Grin

All personal choice innit. I love clashing prints, vintage dresses from the 60s and 70s, looking like a frumpy cartoon librarian or a 70s boy. If I think I look great, then I don't really care what strangers think. (My 3-yo DD tells me I look 'weird' sometimes. That's the highest praise Grin.)

I'd rather wear things I find beautiful and interesting than a) what everyone else is wearing and b) things that are 'safe' and (that dreaded word) 'flattering'.

DancingLady · 24/01/2014 22:16

What Mrs CB said, too.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:17

Quite Dancing lady. Trampy is a horrid work up there with mumsy and mutton really.

Interesting there's no male equivalent.

bunnymother · 24/01/2014 22:17

Jackie O wore a leopard print coat often, what a tramp. No style at all.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:17

word not work - trampy work is perhaps a different subject.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:18

Yes, poor deluded trampy Jackie O. Sad

bunnymother · 24/01/2014 22:19

Grace Kelly and Barbra Streisand both wore theirs often, too. But then, Grace lacked elegance.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2014 22:21

She did Bunny, she did.

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 22:23

That's it. It's the judging. My grandma judges people on appearance alone. She has nothing else to occupy her time with, never has had. She is not a happy lady, never has been.

I on the other hand, don't have all the answers but am pretty comfortable with my own choices (in clothes and other stuff). I may not have it right but I am fine with that.

ToysRLuv · 24/01/2014 22:24

I wouldn't take any of this personally. We ALL have preferences, and reasons why we wouldn't wear something. Whether we see the offending item as "mumsy", "trampy", "emo" or whatever.. I don't believe anyone is completely neutral about clothing. Doesn't make anyone "bad", though, unless they went around telling people how awful they look in RL.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 22:26

I kinda like trampy chic, better than Asinine ugg boot skinny jeans mammy uniform

ToysRLuv · 24/01/2014 22:28

See, for me the Ugg boots are definitely not in the mumsy category- they are just fucking awful and trampy Grin

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 22:30

Agree MrsAp. Enough with the judging. Fashion should be fun and I'll take mine with a dash of leopard print, thanks. And I love a bit of Rod Stewart whatever he's wearing!

SirChenjin · 24/01/2014 22:32

Really - the stripey vest with matching pants do it for you ginzillas??!

DownyEmerald · 24/01/2014 22:33

I have a totally irrational hatred - I do blame Bet Lynch.

Thought DP had bought me a zebra-print scarf (which is not as bad as leopard etc but I still don't like), was composing my face into a "thank you darling" suitable response, when I realised it was actually a scarf with two zebras on it. Which is somehow better! And I do actually like it.

But it looks ok on others. I don't judge. Apart from the woman on the bus the other week - hat, shoes, coat, jumper, all different prints. Confused

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 22:36

Ugg boots are v v warm though. Very warm.

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 22:40

Ps. Ginzillas, your name made me go and pour myself a G&T. Might as well just stick a label on myself saying, animal print wearing, ugg boot owning trampy lush.

At least I know what I am nowBlushGrinGrin
