Am I alone in really disliking animal print?

I really, really dislike it. I'm happy to see it on others but I just can't see myself in it. I got given a lovely Lola Rose scarf for my birthday but it's an animal print design so I'll never wear it.

Gee CB who is calling you trampy?

I really really dislike leopard print. That's my view. And yes, I think it looks cheap (and clearly I'm not alone here). Do I run down the street shouting "Oi, you, trampy! Just what are you wearing?" No.

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 22:44

Always like my men to coordinate their vests with their budgie smugglers, SirChenjin.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 22:44

Round my way if you'd be chasing half street shouting oi trampy with that criteria
I'd quite like to be chased and called trampy
How exciting

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 22:47

GrinGrin Being shouted at and called trampy would be first for me.....(and quite exciting too), mind you who knows, people may have been thinking it behind my back for years. The mind boggles.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 22:55

If there is such a thing, then I like trampy clothing!

Tight jeans? Check.

High heels with said jeans? Check.
Leopard print? Check again.
Leather pencil / skater skirts and leather trousers? That'll be a check.
Mini skirts? Why, check!
Sheer (navy) blouse with navy bra? Check check check.
Dress slashed to just level with the (plunge) bra line? Check. Sigh.
Silk shorts with heels on a night out? Oh, this 'checking' is getting boring now.

I'm 44 and often, frequently and regularly get complimented in my style by other women. Younger, older and same age.

I've no style, clearly. Except, it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it.

ginzillas · 24/01/2014 23:09

Mrsap Happy Friday from one trampy missus to another.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 23:14

Love that list, single.your a game burd

Mrsap · 24/01/2014 23:19

Single....check on all fronts. Clearly the cap fits. Moment of self realisation GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Happy Friday indeed, she says tottering around in leopard heels, clinking her G&T. Hiccup.

PrimalLass · 24/01/2014 23:36

I'm failing to see how my huge leopard print scarf - that pretty much covers me from stomach to chin - is trampy.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 23:44

It's the pat butcher/kat slater brassy thing with animal prints=trampy

PrimalLass · 24/01/2014 23:49

Thankfully the rest of me is far from brassy.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 23:49

Why thank you ScottishMummy and MrsAp. I too am drinking a G&T. We're just too darn stylish Wink!

Thing is, I've got a banging better body and more confidence in my own style plus more money for better quality cuts / fabrics than I ever had in my twenties or thirties and I've worked sodding hard for those things. Balls to hiding my light under a bushel.

'Trampy' and be damned I say!

scottishmummy · 24/01/2014 23:50

See I like trampy as opposed to stifling middle class per una

SinglePringle · 24/01/2014 23:59

Agreed ScottishMummy. I'd rather go naked than wear yer Fat Face, Boden, Wright Stuff or the like but I've friends who wear those brands and look good in them - that's their style.

Horses for courses innit.

Mrsap · 25/01/2014 00:16

Confession.... I do wear boden. They do lovely (plain) knitwear and some pretty good animal print. Does that mean I can't be trampy? But I want to be trampy. Stamps leopard print clad foot.

scottishmummy · 25/01/2014 00:21

I like white company

SinglePringle · 25/01/2014 00:24

Is that a tramp stamp MrsCB?!

I see people in nice clothes that have come from both those places. I just don't see them when I browse.

Another example of not what you wear but how you wear it?

WordOfTheDay · 25/01/2014 01:09

Just Bet Lynch.

SinglePringle · 25/01/2014 07:29

mrsap nor MrsCB. Apologies... (Too much leopard print had clearly addled my brain!).

MarshaBrady · 25/01/2014 07:34

It doesn't only have to be trampy/mutton or fat face/middle class/mumsy.

Not that I think a calf hair leopard print belt and the like is either.

But you always see people say that on here -and assume if you're not one you're the other.

SirChenjin · 25/01/2014 08:00

Goodness - this thread has become incredibly serious over the last few hours! I'm sure you're all very stylish - but animal prints are still bogging (check)

Grin
AmberNectarine · 25/01/2014 08:14

God I LOVE animal prints of all varieties; leopard, zebra, tiger, snake, croc - you name it, it's in my wardrobe.

I also like skulls, houndstooth, stripes, stars, camo etc. Spots too fucking twee - I'm not Cath Kidston.

The day I start wearing White Stuff or Fat Face you can euthanase me - I'm already dead.

AmberNectarine · 25/01/2014 08:17

Zebra is my current favourite - in the past year along I have acquired Isabel Marant high tops, Gucci heels, a Jimmy Choo clutch and an Equipment shirt in the print. I only wish I had the balls to wear it all together! Wink

SirChenjin · 25/01/2014 08:17

Bit like the animals whose skins you're wearing, eh?!

PlumSykes · 25/01/2014 08:44

I was discussing with a mum at school yesterday, who commented on my leopard beanie, that I was considering getting rid of all my non-leopard items, and just going full-on animal from now on. Was it one of you?
