MI never never never agree to share your bed...

ds scoots over so he is jammed up against me and I am on the last millimetre of mattress - I am sure he things I am going to escape in the night - and then flings an arm on me.........

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2014 13:27

MI, I have had to share a bed with DD on holiday at times. Not good, but better than DH! And way better than DSGrin

herbaceous · 15/01/2014 13:34

MI - maybe they can share your bed together, while you go and find peace in one of their beds.

DS likes to jam his toenails into my leg, while not flailing about or going diagonal. I like the idea of him in bed more than the reality.

motherinferior · 15/01/2014 13:41

I have been known to escape, when they insist on both coming in. At which point I overheat massively as obviously I have to me in the middle.

DP continues to report he is having a lovely time. I have asked him under NO circumstances to bring me back duty free Chanel 19.

I am also a bit tired. Dd put her alarm on for some ungodly hour and then went back to sleep. However, the dog sees any alarm going off as a good reason to come and get into bed with me. Under the duvet and huffing lovingly into my ear. Hmm And despite being a very small dog, he takes up a lot of bed. I did not get back to sleep.

In S&B news - I have had another haircut. It is now properly short, according to my standards. I may be deluding myself, but I think it looks ok and in no way like an old lady with a cauliflower perm. Oh no.

Stropperella · 15/01/2014 15:15

I cannot share my bed with my dcs. It makes me want to kill them.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2014 15:19

Looking forward to seeing the new "do" on FridayWink

I do not want to go to DS's parents eve tonight. He is obviously a bit worried as he has spent the last few days asking who we will be going to see and giving me a run-down of who might give him a good report. It doesn't bode well...

Stropperella · 15/01/2014 15:30

Good luck tonight, BTM. I have to go and see dd's teachers the week after next - the last time before GCSEs. Gulp.

herbaceous · 15/01/2014 15:41

About to go and pick DS up from his first after-school gym club. It's run by the school, and is free, and was in high demand. Those parents whose children didn't get picked (by drawing lots) have been very aggressive about it, one even demanding a letter from the head promising their daughter would get a chance after half term. FFS. Of course, had DS not got in, I too might have been stroppy.

In hair news, I need to trim my fringe. Hopefully the results will not be too hilarious for Friday.

CointreauVersial · 15/01/2014 16:27

Children in bed? It's a no from me. I barely tolerate DH. Grin

I have done more research on the iPad mending options. Our local computer place quoted me almost exactly the same as Apple. Our household insurance would cover it, but we have a £100 excess, and the lovely lady in the Claims Department pointed out that we would lose our No Claims bonus and have two years of higher premiums if we claimed. So I think we'll be flexing the plastic. DD2 very solemnly handed over her Christmas vouchers and the entire contents of her money box (about £70 in total); no doubt her soft parents will find a surreptitious way to replenish her funds once the "lesson has been learned".

motherinferior · 15/01/2014 16:35

My Outlook has crashed. I am not entirely sure what to do...

Herbs, I used to do a bit of G&S at Uni and it's not easy - I don't think anyone does it any more unless thy're pretty good as it's hard work. There are too many rock musicals fr poor singers to belt out these days ... Love a bit of Sullivan, which one is it?

motherinferior · 15/01/2014 18:30

I am having major issues with the designer for this little charity mag. She's expecting a baby in mid-July. She appears to believe she can effectively 'work around' the baby even when it's just born (and while I and many others have done the odd bit and gone to meetings with breastfeeding babies this is a bit different); I have pointed out we'll need a contingency plan...and having revamped all timetables to accommodate her (bonkers) plans she now says she needs copy at a point when I think it just won't be feasible. This is ultimately not my problem, thank heavens...

herbaceous · 15/01/2014 19:09

It isn't easy, no, especially to sightread. Especially when they insist on have those separate quavers which are harder to read.

It's Yeoman of the Guard, which has some good choons.

Stropperella · 15/01/2014 19:44

I love a bit of G&S. I was in The Mikado and Iolanthe at school. We did joint productions with the boys' grammar and the sec mod and the teachers joined in as well. I got a solo part in Iolanthe and then wimped out back into the chorus after the first rehearsal. (Story of my life...) Remember those times with great fondness. Almost the best bit of my schooling, in fact!
Ds has just announced he wants to go to drama school when he is 13.

addle · 15/01/2014 20:02

Only G&S I've sung is Cat-Like Tread from PofP in local community choir, but was good fun.

Good luck BTM, hope it's going well.

wilbur · 15/01/2014 20:23

Yeoman is my favourite - I co-directed it at Uni, we did a v good updated version, if I say so myself. Lovely music. I have a song to sing-oh...

And children in bed always sounds so lovely and rarely is - we've had ds2 in a lot recently due to bad dreams and nosebleeds and he does everything you don't want your bed partner to do - clings on, hogs duvet, snuffles loudly, sleeps diagonally, farts. He is going to have a lot of trouble finding a life partner.

CV - sorry about the iPad. I have broken the screen on my Nexus and need to think about how to fix that. Might try touting along Tottenham Court Rd and see if anyone will do it cheaply. It's such a bummer.

MI - at least you can cheer yourself up picturing the designer's face when she realises she can't do a normal day's work while her newborn sleeps peacefully under her desk.

lalsy · 15/01/2014 20:30

My dd talks to, and occasionally argues with, herself in her sleep (philosophy A level has a lot to answer for). And she makes the little munching noises she made as a baby Smile. This could be an alarming combination for anyone unsuspecting.

I too hate spending money on mending things - and keep meaning to set aside a nominal sum at the start of the year so it doesn't feel like it is coming out of holiday or fun money.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2014 20:34

Well, his parents evening was exactly as expectedConfused
Does anyone own a bright, confident, popular boy who is well-behaved and works hard and is achieving his full potential all the time? If so, Envy and tips on how you managed it, please!

On the plus side, we were impressed with all the teachers for not having strangled/battered him to death Smile

wilbur · 15/01/2014 20:45

Er - I'm not sure they exist BTM! I have a bright, well-behaved boy, who has a good sense of self and confidence enough to try new things - he sort of works hard about half the time and occasionally achieves his full potential. But he is not popular Sad - he's not unpopular either, but he is not and likely never will be, one of those boys other boys want to be like. He is not sporty and doesn't quite get the mechanics of friendship, and I know he would swap, in a heartbeat, the good marks and the maths ability for a gang of mates. I'm hoping (praying, begging the universe) that as they get older, the quirky boys will find their niche and their friends and that being able to play football will no longer be the only measure. I'm hopeful of a girlfriend for him at some point - he has lovely brown eyes...

Stropperella · 15/01/2014 20:58

wilbur, I did snort at your description of your ds2's sleeping habits. Grin And also the idea of the lickle newborn sleeping soundly under the desk. Grin

Today, aside from once more making himself comfortable human-stylee in various beds, our dog has been spotted taking biscuits from his bowl, sitting on a chair and then eating said biscuits off the dining table. If I suddenly start posting about rabbits, you can safely assume he has got hold of my phone.

Auriga · 15/01/2014 21:18

Herbs, the G and S sounds like fantastic fun. Doing it to a high standard with a real expert will be a blast. Can we come?

DBIL and DNephew stopped off last night on way to nephew's first univ i/v. I was put out to discover the poor lad hadn't brought a suit. He'd been so worried about the i/v itself that he didn't think and nobody advised him. Nothing of DH's fitted him. I know DSis has been preoccupied with herself and DBIL has no clue but really p'd off that they've paid so little attention. The school did some practice i/vs with him but apparently dress was not mentioned. Aargh!

Haven't heard how it went yet. Hope he wasn't put off by the sight of hordes of candidates in suits (it was an open day as well). Maybe he won't be as easily intimidated as I used to be.

motherinferior · 15/01/2014 21:39

Oh, poor lad. What was he wearing?

Stropps, my Pervert Murderer cat has taken to leaping onto my office chair the minute I leave my computer. Perhaps he can have a chat with your dog?

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/01/2014 21:45

DD2 always wants to sleep with me on the all too infrequent occasions that DH is away. I refuse to let her. The large cat usually sleeps on my feet, but as the other furry being is barred for continence issues, they are currently both shut out of the bedroom at night.

DD1 informs me that her grades are not as bad as she thought they would be. Mostly Bs, with an A for history and art. Smile She seems a lot less stressed and angsty now (thank goodness).

Eczema now septic. I have popped the pus bubble rather than let it grow as a treat for the doctor on Friday, as the last time it went septic (and the time before that, and the time before that) I ended up in hospital with lymphangitis and an arse full of antibiotics every 8 hours. No intention of repeating that.

I am the world's most unmusical and unartistic person and have particular envy of anyone who can sing.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2014 22:00

Awww, Wilbur, I bet things will change re friends, etc as he gets older - school can be a harsh place, but as kids grow up they realise that not everyone has to be the same to be a good friend, IYSWIM.

MrsS, get it sorted! No illness allowed on Friday!

I also wish I could sing and play the piano.
