And a new door opens...Grin

I'm trying to pin down the pregnant designer who is out at an appointment and isn't answering her phone too...

I think WFH only really works if you have a proper office (preferably one painted in colours everyone else dislikes) which is used for WORK.

OP posts:
Blackduck · 28/01/2014 12:15

I like to WFH if I can, but do agree about having a 'proper' space. I am not sure sitting in bed with a laptop is ideal!

motherinferior · 28/01/2014 12:34

Feature back on. Going mildly barmy here...

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 28/01/2014 13:06

Only mildly?Grin

cremolafoam · 28/01/2014 13:20

MI what the actual indeed. ?Confused

I am indulging in a Swedish massage today, which I received for Xmas. I am hoping I will feel improved by it.
A full day back at the coal face nearly broke my already rickety back.
On the late shift tonight and already feeling like a slave.Angry

herbaceous · 28/01/2014 13:22

Just back from Westfield. Successfully changed two left mittens for an actual pair, and finally exchanged the faulty Zara necklace for a non-faulty one and a scarf. And like a crepey sheep, bought a Lyn Harris perfume in M&S!

What about this, crepeys. At the party at the weekend was a man who was the absolute SPITTING IMAGE of my first serious boyfriend. Who was utterly drop-dead gorgeous. God knows what he was doing with me. Said boyfriend, however, was a builder's labourer who never wanted anything more than a quiet life, with his idea of a big night out being the curry house over the road from the local pub. He was a lovely man, and adored me, but at 23 I reckoned I wanted more out of life and we would have made each other miserable.

It was so strange seeing this man - who isn't a builder's labourer, but in publishing. And he turns out to have worked in the same building as me, at the same time, in the 1990s. I feel all queer. Don't fancy him, just feel all queer.

Anyway, as you were...

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2014 14:32

Which Lynn Harris perfume did you get, Herbs?

LOL at you coming over all queer!

hattymattie · 28/01/2014 14:37

NU - sounds like your from my neck of the woods (before I ended up in France that is).

Herbs - love the "all queer" story.

I've been to the orthodentist - having had my teeth scanned - they are a catastrophe - I'm sure there is nothing they can do Sad. At least I've made sure all my children have been orthodentically sorted so they don't have to have this carry-on when they're 50!

herbaceous · 28/01/2014 14:37

I got La Fleur. Which I think, in retrospect, is because it's very much like one of my faves - Prada's Infusion d'Iris. It was, annoyingly, £12.50, not the online barg of £7.50.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2014 14:39

I do not enjoy working from home in a cold sitting room, surrounded by the contents of the kitchen and with the cats' box exuding an unpleasant aroma. I have told the plumber to smash the tiles in the kitchen if he needs to, in the hope that it will spur DH on to getting the kitchen fixed next.

Plumber comes from the next village to where my Polish pottery is made. I must treat him to my very rusty Polish and ask him if he wants tea or coffee.

Blackduck · 28/01/2014 15:00

MI - how frustrating!

Herbs - how weird!

Here I am seething about work changes - they have appointed my boss's replacement, but I only got to know by accident, and also discovered people outside of the school knew and I didn't. Now I didn't expect the power of veto or anything like that, but considering this person will be my line manager and I will have to work very closely with them it would have been nice to have been told before it was announced to the whole world. But clearly I am not important and such a change doesn't matter so why would I need to be told? This is symptomatic of the new regime round here.....

beachyhead · 28/01/2014 15:14

I am working from home today too, unusually for a Tuesday... I had a late night dash home from my comfy Traveldodgy (where I was all set up with take away and telly in full swing) as dh had been admitted to hospital and neighbours were holding fort with the dc at home.

He was discharged at 1am with a clean bill of health. He had been complaining of fainting, tingles in arms and legs and chest pain (although he was a bit circumspect about the chest pain and I suspect, rather meanly Blush, that men of a certain age always seem to have a little chest pain going on!)

Anyway all back to normal now. He's had a lovely day bodding around the garden and I am fully knackered and taking a myriad of calls in my cold, cold study, which does have very disgusting wallpaper, MI.

I'm going to M&S tomorrow and may investigate this notorious perfume (as anything fashionable in Marble Arch or Westfield will hit the sell out stakes in about 2017 down here!) I'm currently, very unfashionably, sporting Floris as my 80 yo aunt gave me some for helping her out with something!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2014 15:31

The cats have been no company at all; they have spent the day curled up together on an armchair under a fur throw. They seem lovely and cosy. Hmm I am not.

hattymattie · 28/01/2014 15:38

Chest pain and tingly arms and legs very alarming Beachy - thank god he's OK now.

Have seen curtains I would quite like for my bedroom in Laura Ashley online sale but the website has such bad reviews I don't dare order.

Mrs S - cats have the right idea Smile

NUFC69 · 28/01/2014 15:43

Hatty, we moved to Northumberland over 30 years ago so I now think of myself as an adopted Geordie. DC were small when we came and can't remember anywhere else. Where were you from?

I enjoyed my mini walk round Newcastle; tried on a nice grey Phase Eight jersey dress in John Lewis but decided against it on the grounds it not only accentuated my curves, but also my lumps and bumps. Sad

On the other hand, DH bought some new pedals for his bike.

NUFC69 · 28/01/2014 15:47

Sorry just seen that your DH has had an emergency trip to hospital, Beachy. Hope everything is ok now and he is recovering well?

beachyhead · 28/01/2014 16:02

He seems fine now.... he came over all matyr-ish when he was declared fit and said 'well, I suppose I'm fine to go to work then'.... I had to convince him to take the day at home today, but I think he will be fine. It's just worrying him that he doesn't know what it was, and he's still all tingly.

I've suggested a trapped nerve and will pack him off to my wonderful osteopath as soon as I can!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2014 16:11

Glad he's OK Beachy - maybe a trapped nerve in his neck?

My DM's youngest brother got medical retirement when he was 34 with a frozen shoulder. He got a good pension, and has enhanced it by being a very successful gambler - to the extent that he has just bought a holiday cottage in Cornwall with the profits. He said he paid cash for it, and I had visions of him handing over the dosh in used tenners.

On the style and beauty front, the slippers I wanted, that only Stropps liked, were suddenly 40% off on Amazon, so I have snapped them up. Grin

motherinferior · 28/01/2014 16:23

My sodding Pervert Murderer cat spends all sodding day curled up balefully by me, exerting himself only to leap into my chair the minute I dare get up. But Beachy, that must have been terribly worrying and also inconvenient when ensconced in front of The Bletchley Circle.

NUFC, I did wonder about your name Wink - my sister and her lot live up there.

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 28/01/2014 16:49

MI, must admit I am a season ticket holder - name came courtesy of DH.. Do your family like it up here? We moved from Berkshire, prior to that we were in Essex. We love it and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Life is just so much easier - particularly if you are in work. We couldn't believe how much more we could do financially when we first came.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/01/2014 16:52

Oi am from Baaarkshoire originally, NUFC. Grin

cremolafoam · 28/01/2014 17:05

Crikey Beachy that was all a bit worrying . Shock Glad he's awright now.
On the subject of trapped nerves the Swedish massage was an epic fail.
She really tried hard to iron me out , but I'm too knotted apparently . Will need a sports massage I think. I could feel the lumps in my neck region as she tried to unkink them. Huge egg sized stress balls. And aargh the cracking noise of my fingers as she loosened them up.
I am officially an ironing board.

I am getting an upgrade on my car. New edition new colour but at no extra cost. Really pleased about that!Grin

The Bletchley circle gels are really post war crepeys aren't they. ( apart from Lucy)Wink

hattymattie · 28/01/2014 17:15

Cream - quite fancy a massage. DSIL did buy DD1 and I one for Christmas last year. They gave us paper thongs to wear which didn't exactly cover my unwaxed modesty. The masseurs were a bit put put that we couldn't stop sniggering. Obviously not French enough.

NU - I remember JL's when it was Bainbridge's and had the UFO coffee shop. I was very disappointed when I took DC's back there last year to find it had been removed.

bigTillyMint · 28/01/2014 17:22

NU, Northumberland is lovely isn't it? Whereabouts are you? My DMs BFF still lives in Alnwick (farming) and I have had many happy (if chilly!) holidays up thereSmile

Beachy, it sounds a little bit like DH in the summer - no further issues AFAIK, but it was very worrying. Is your DH a cyclist too? Seems strange when they are relatively fit.

Cremo, I can recommend Thai massages. And Envy about new car.

Forgot to take my gym stuff for circuitsAngry so am home with school ishoos (both DC) to deal with.

hattymattie · 28/01/2014 17:35

At a bit of q loss with DD2 who can be extremely immature sometimes, to the extent that it's affecting her school relationships. If I say anything "I criticise her 24/7."
