CV I thought DH had banned you from spending Wink

Pad thai last night - looked horrid, tasted lovely and double The Bridge - anyone else watching? So what is wrong with her request for a room of her own (aside from shining a bright light in his eyes at 4.38 in the morning to suggest it) - it's men and their sheds isn't it?!

NUFC69 · 27/01/2014 06:32

Those of you down south certainly seem to be having awful weather atm. Saturday here was quite pleasant and the expected snow failed to arrive yesterday. Da da, the painting is done apart from two radiators and I can see work tops again.

Today almost 3 yo DGS is coming for his weekly visit so no doubt we'll be exhausted by tonight. After he has gone that's when I understand why nature makes sure we don't have babies late in life, although as I didn't have the menopause until late 50s he could almost have been mine and not DD's.

addle · 27/01/2014 08:39

hello all,

not at all, BH, am quietly proud if slightly taken aback at popularity of golden skirt. just wish i'd paid a whole £7 (seven, vii) for it Angry

  • thank you for the Lyn Harris tip, Mrs S - just went online and ordered a whole load of stuff as perfume there £7.50 down from £25
MrsSchadenfreude · 27/01/2014 09:07

£7.50? Shock I paid £12.50! Angry

herbaceous · 27/01/2014 09:28

Back from third c25K stagger. 'Oh, this is quite easy', I thought on the first jog. Then realised it was downhill. All the rest were mildly uphill. Felt like I was jogging through treacle. Not helped by it being a fast day, not sleeping very well, and remnants of hangover. Perhaps not a wise combination. Still, knees hurt less today.

Might browse some Lyn Harris perfumes. I loved one I was given for my birthday ages ago, but could never quite splash out on another real one. This could be just the ticket.

Blackduck · 27/01/2014 09:47

Another 20% off online today only MrsS and Herbs.......

Have just purchased... and some new (cheap) bed linen.....

motherinferior · 27/01/2014 09:56

Herbs, my knees can get a bit stiff, and often creak spectacularly (though I've looked this up and if they don't hurt, that's fine); and congrats on sticking with it! I ran round the park this morning to watch the sun rise, which was lovely.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 27/01/2014 10:06

Mine hurt in the kneecap if I put my leg down in the wrong sort of way. My whole lower half is spectacularly out of alignment, so presume it's something to do with that. I'm doing some knee strengthening exercises, in the hope this will ward off the need for a replacement in five years' time.

Big new Didriksons parka arrives on Wednesday. Mmmm...

cremolafoam · 27/01/2014 10:22

BD I love The Bridge: part if the reason we chose to go to Copenhagen if I'm honest. Blush Saga is one if the best characters ever- completely original; the scene with the mil was hilarious. Poor Jacob though. I have this awful feeling that Martins visits to Jens are not going to end well.Shock

QueenQueenie · 27/01/2014 10:28

Herbs, I make sure all my staggering routes are as flat as possible! When I was last in Suffolk I ran home from the nearby town where we'd gone for coffee - it was v hilly and nearly killed me! I honestly does get easier though, so stick with it. I feel really good when I've done it and honestly, if I can ANYONE can. If someone had told me a few months ago I would be able to run (sort of) for 35 minutes without stopping I wouldn't have believed it... in fact my family were so disbelieving that I am about to be the winner of some rather satisfying bets... ds2 owes me a tenner and dh may have committed to buying me some rather expensive shoes... very motivating.

motherinferior · 27/01/2014 10:38

Can I pick your collective brians? Doing little feature on 'things to do outside' - from in the garden to going out for the day: any suggestions of trips out/ unexpected fun stuff to do as a family/ etc...

QQ, there is nothing like defying the expectations of one's loved ones in the fitness department, I find Grin. Having not gone last week (knee stuff, then DP was out, then went away to spend weekend chez friends and pervy ex) after today's early run I feel joyously like a small red-haired dog that's been taken for a bit of exercise.

QueenQueenie · 27/01/2014 10:57

I shall be going for a stagger later MI. No idea why but I find it sooo much easier the later in the day I go. Not quite sure what sort of thing you have in mind but...

seaside in winter
free art exhibition / museum and everyone has to draw something they like
a meal where each person cooks a course from a new recipe and marks given (sort of CDWM)
a board game fest
going skating

QueenQueenie · 27/01/2014 10:58

ooops. Now see you wanted things to do outside.. doh.

lalsy · 27/01/2014 12:09

Go to woods and build a den/play one of those hiding/attacking games. Play crazy golf. Do a train walk. Swim in a different or odd place. Make a film (possibly involving favourite toys in strange or iconic locations).

My knees make ridiculous loud creaking noises. I too gather if they don't hurt, it is fine. I don't do exercise that makes them hurt, on the whole, though have just bought attractive knee brace to add to my classy velcro image when playing badminton (which I love but which does involve swivelling).

herbaceous · 27/01/2014 12:13

Do your activities have to be anywhere in particular (ie London), or just general ideas?

motherinferior · 27/01/2014 12:19

General ideas: I'm dividing it into 'in the garden', 'in the park' and 'further afield'.

Am however now going through something rather tedious but rewardingly finding wrong dates in it.

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 27/01/2014 12:47

I used to run when I was in my late 30s but the love of my life was badminton which I played up to 4 years ago. Then I decided to take swimming lessons to improve my technique; big mistake - I woke up one morning after swimming to discover I could hardly walk - and the pain was horrendous. Less than six months later I was in hospital having a knee replacement. Tbh I think the badminton probably did it, but the swimming certainly didn't help. So now I don't have any pain but the list of things I am not able to do is long. Knee replacements are to be avoided for as long as possible. They don't tell you that you will never be the same again.

I do envy the badminton players, though.

motherinferior · 27/01/2014 13:15

Yes, when I've interviewed people about them - the specialists - they say avoid a replacement as long as you can...

Stropperella · 27/01/2014 13:34

My mother was a physio and has trenchant views about exercising. It's one of the few things we agree on, because it gets me out of running. Grin I do the odd bit of trotting when out with the dog, but it's mainly brisk walking.

Blackduck · 27/01/2014 13:40

Geocaching - I have a friend who does this and absolutely loves it - can buy an app and off you go.

Treasure Hunts/Trails - these are a really go way of seeing a city in detail - can be printed off, or done on a phone.

QueenQueenie · 27/01/2014 13:56

Not sure if your article can link to other resources, but these are Fab.

motherinferior · 27/01/2014 14:05

oh god you're all wonderful - sorry to exploit you so pathetically but have about three deadlines crashing in on me, haven't even started on this one yet...

OP posts:
wilbur · 27/01/2014 14:33

MI - we have done a few of these Treasure Trails. They are good fun, and quite tricky.

Hi all - I'm still here, but swamped with Life. I have no gold skirt, didn't get any haggis, have not met Simon Cowell and haven't had a hangover in yonks [dull]. I did share Auriga's drive through the terrifying storm on Saturday though - only a few minutes of being really terrible where I was and Classic FM was hilariously playing the 1812 Overture at the same time which made me Grin.

And ds2 has a urine infection, so I have had to do two (2, II) lots of specimen catching on the past few days, which is basically him weeing on my hands.

Hello NUFC - belated welcome.

wilbur · 27/01/2014 14:37

Oh and I have been invited to an awesome party - important birthday of one of my oldest friends (and one-time naughty squeeze) who is also a wonderful tonic on the flirting front, and it's all dressed up at the Groucho, and I Can't Effing Go as it's the same night as MIL's 70th. I am so gutted I'm contemplating divorcing dh quickly in the next couple of weeks.

herbaceous · 27/01/2014 14:55

Blimey, Wilbur, what a TOTAL BUMMER. I know just how you feel - I had to miss the Christmas party of the year last year - caterers, champagne, etc - to have a meal with the inlaws in Bracknell.

Can you do both parties?
