The biggest mistake most people with dry skin make is wanting a Matt finish foundation.
The second is thinking the matter the foundation, the more coverage given.
If you skin is dry try to avoid a Matt finish as these foundations have a higer powder content which in turn will dehydrate skin further and sit upon the dry areas. It also has a tendency to look grey on the skin and give the awful sallow look.
Try a semi Matt finish instead.
Also, don't rely on foundation to cover the dark circles under the eye area. A seperate product specially formulated for the eye area should be used as it will be lighter and will avoid pulling the delicate skin. A light reflecting concealer is they way to go.
All major beauty houses will colour match you for free. Estée Lauder and Lancôme are particular favourites as they do a range of undertones and not just the yellow one (which causes the orange effect)
I would take a morning and wonder the counters almost all will give a sample for you to try.
I would always suggest wearing a sample all day (providing it looks ok on application)
A reaction to a product will normally take place within 6 hours and also you can see how it looks at the end of the day.
Bobby brown also has some lighter foundations that sit nicely on the skin while offering good coverage.
Please don't get talked into loose powder shudders
