Hi anybody got any ideas as to what hairstyle might suit me?
I have just below chin-length hair, all the same length, medium thickness with a tendency to go wavy unless I straighten it.
Its in a bob at the minute and it looks a bit boring to be honest and I would like something a bit more up to date without it being really short.
Dont suit it short as I have fairly round face although good cheekbones.
Any ideas welcome.

graduated bob with some layers?

blaineyboy · 04/01/2014 21:31

Hi, maybe. Had thought about maybe a perm sort of corkscrew curls but havnt had my hair permed for 25+ years, not sure if hairs long enough.

Curls make a round face look bigger/wider so take that into consideration.

Have you got a pic we can see?

myrtleWilson · 04/01/2014 22:00

Similar boat here OP, mine is thick, wavy, just past collarbones and is getting unmanageable.... However I' do like bobs - do you have a fringe or not? I love Sherylin Fenns hair (especially when she was in Twin Peaks) would that suit?

blaineyboy · 04/01/2014 23:03

Hi myrtle, did have a fringe for ages, spent the last almost 2 yrs growing it out.
Dont have pic just now but will post 1 tomorrow, would do it tonite but did'nt blow dry hair this morning I just put it in a sort of bun while it was wet and my hair at the moment resembles a walnut whip lol.
Sherilynn fenn style sounds nice if its what I remember it looks like.
Will post pic of hair tomorrow and u all can tell me whatu think.
Thanks for all replies.

might look a bit more up to date if you make it a graduated bob and make the back shorter than the sides. Any of these take your fancy:

graduated bob styles

blaineyboy · 05/01/2014 14:28

Thanks hoops some of those are great, I like the shapes and shorter at the back ,longer at the front should make it a bit more up to date.
There's a blond curly looking bob I particulaly like, goin from my pic do u think my face might be too round? Dont want it to make my face look fatter.

Suppose I could buy some curling tongs after I get it cut into the basic shape though couldn't i, before I maybe make a mistake and get it permed at the same time

ilovepowerhoop · 05/01/2014 14:56

i dont think your face looks round at all but maybe its just the camera angle.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 05/01/2014 15:05

I don't think your face is very round at all so curls shouldn't make it look bigger Smile but I'm not sure whether curls would suit you tbh and remember it'll make your hair spring up.

Give it a go with some tongs and see how it looks as nobody wants to get a perm and then find out it doesn't suit them

ilovepowerhoop · 05/01/2014 15:30

www.ukhairdressers.com/hair_move/face%20shape.asp - upload a photo to find out your face shape. I am apparently an oval shape

blaineyboy · 05/01/2014 15:35

Hoops, trip trap doesn't look to round in the pic right enough, think its kind of drawn looking the past couple of days as not been sleeping well.
Will definately try the tongs first tho before I contemplate anything permanent, but I think graduated bob is the way to go :-) might even get some lowlights done too.
Appointment 2 weeks tomorrow so i'll let u know how it goes and update the pics, fingers crossed it goes well as I hate going to the flaming hairdressers, usually ask me who cut it last? And I feel compelled to lie and say it was another hairdresser lol when ive been lopping bits off it for the last 18months ;-)

my mum regularly gets me to trim bits off the back of her hair - makes a change as she used to grab bits and hack it off herself! I have grown my fringe out too (used to trim it myself) and am also looking for a hairstyle change and am contemplating a graduated bob too (hair currently below my shoulders and annoying me). Thats why I have been using the online face shape thing and looking at photos of styles to suit different face shapes. My appointment is on Wednesday.

blaineyboy · 05/01/2014 15:49

Have u decided for sure what u want?
I would loa evaer yllidarl change but im definately not as adventurous as I used to be with my hair, always a bit wary of being mutton dressed as lamb lol and I shouldn't be like that im only 46 which is still quite youngish (hopes).
Will u post a before and after when u get it done? Wouldlove to see it.

blarney, as your hair is wavy you said, how about the Kiera Knightly bob in the graduated bob page?

blaineyboy · 05/01/2014 17:47

Myrtle I actually looked at that, was the 1st one that caught my eye to be honest, that and a blonde 1 that was similar style.
I think I may get something similar as I could also
