I am back old skool make up man. HAIRSPRAY and POWDER

neither i have used for the last 5 years. I was, as a yoof, a veteran of elnett back combing.
I was also a devoted dewy look fan.
HOWEVER after one too many long days at work where i look like death warmed up by lunch time, i have indulged in a Bobbi Brown powder. All make up blush and eyeliner is therefore set before putting anything else on top.

this is not making me look cakey - have powder things changed?
ALSO hairspray - stops the frizz - how had I forgotten?!

MissBeehiving · 19/12/2013 17:46

I love my Elnett.

kaumana · 19/12/2013 17:53

After blasting a hole in the ozone layer during the 80's, I quit my addiction, BUT now I am fully back to being addicted to the stuff.

Elnett iz da bomb.

goodasitgets · 19/12/2013 18:11

Today I have powder and hairspray on
I may also have a quiff and leg earners Blush

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/12/2013 18:18

yes powder's changed
Used to be impossibly cakey
I remember a loose one I would get from Woolworths as a skint teen.. would come out bright orange and go on all scabby...
which i thought was better than my rosey cheeks!
I can't do without powder.. i'm too shiny.. i will never be dewy.. chip pan is never a sexy look

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/12/2013 18:19

Basically I looked like a dehydrated Wotsit. and there were no gentle exfoliants back then..only Aapri or that weird bean one from the Body Shop that would take great chunks out of my very sensitive skin!

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/12/2013 18:20

I had an 80s moment last week when I spied a bottle of Ann French cleansing milk in Superdrug and suddenly craved the smell . Used that night and it burnt my skin! I don't remember it ever doing that! took my skin a week to recover :-(

MrsMaryCooper · 19/12/2013 18:28

I have never deviated from the true path. Elnett is the one and only. I learnt it at my granny's knee. I wish they would stop employing Cheryl Cole, but not enough to stop using it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/12/2013 18:29

In our town savers is always cheapest for elnett, I think it's £3.99 for the big can.

I could never get the right foundation years ago, it was all orange. Eyeshadow was all glittery and lipsticks had a "pearlised" finish.

Confused

It's so much better now.

gaggiagirl · 19/12/2013 18:30

Ooh I have always enjoyed powder it sets my face wonderfully.

My hair is pretty crap. What will hairspray do for me? Come on sell it to me.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/12/2013 18:32

Beauty without Cruelty did some great foundations in little jars that you could get in health food shops. So it was a blessing when i was 17 to discover them. I don't know if they're even still going. Yes lippies always pearly and when I was at school if you didn't wear eyeshadow in deep blue or purple you were weird! I remember thinking a classmate was really dull and boring because she got a set of plain old browns! Grin until everyone else took her lead. and Constance Carroll nail varnishes from the market! They had skinny lids. I remember a beautiful pearly pale blue..

AlaskaNebraska · 19/12/2013 19:39

white elnett though, right? I got the bronze handbag size one in error

OOH NO

I love Elnett. I spray it on before bed, bizarrely.

I have long curly hair and it stops it frizzing overnight.

VesuviusPoovius · 19/12/2013 19:42

I bought some Bristows hairspray recently only to find they'd changed the smell Shock

Which powder are you using?

AlaskaNebraska · 19/12/2013 19:43

oh i have to wash chaque jour

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/12/2013 19:48

Everyone at my school wore rimmel heather shimmer lippie and lots of us wore amarige.

I'm surprised our teachers didn't get migraines every day.

Fairylea · 19/12/2013 19:52

I can never manage without powder. I have been wearing rimmel stay matte pressed powder since I was about 13 (!) I am now 33 and in between worked for clinique and chanel for 11 years here and there and still I always used rimmel despite having 65% product discount. I just love it.

I am bloody addicted to the stuff.

Coffee shimmer lipstick from rimmel and black cherry lipstick I used to wear when I was 15 however is firmly in the past !

Ifancyashandy · 19/12/2013 19:52

I've, sadly, been unfaithful to Elnett once or twice over the years. But I've leant. Seriously, I've learnt. It is the ONLY hairspray. Fact.
