I am back old skool make up man. HAIRSPRAY and POWDER

neither i have used for the last 5 years. I was, as a yoof, a veteran of elnett back combing.
I was also a devoted dewy look fan.
HOWEVER after one too many long days at work where i look like death warmed up by lunch time, i have indulged in a Bobbi Brown powder. All make up blush and eyeliner is therefore set before putting anything else on top.

this is not making me look cakey - have powder things changed?
ALSO hairspray - stops the frizz - how had I forgotten?!

Miss selfridge Iron Maiden was my lipstick of choice

AlaskaNebraska · 19/12/2013 19:56

I love the smell and it fades quickly. WHat is the white one

Ifancyashandy · 19/12/2013 20:12

I loved Iron Lady. And Twilight Teaser by 17. Pinky blue lips!

AlaskaNebraska · 19/12/2013 20:14

unscented actually maybe its not, it just smells less

Heather shimmer for me back in the day.

Went so well with the neon blue mascara everyone wore back in the summer of 83

Remember the super gloppy sticky roller ball lip gloss- I can't remember the make though?

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/12/2013 20:52

Anyone else remember red mirrors with marylin written on them?

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 19/12/2013 23:30

Lipcote!
And the other awful perfume was anais anais.
And what about blondie lipstick?
Did I go to school with all of you? Grin

GeekInThePink · 20/12/2013 00:11

Which Elnett do I need?

ggirl · 20/12/2013 12:04

I made fuax pas of buying tres semme rock hard hair spray..truly horrendous ...my hair lifted in the wind like donald trumps

SuckItAndSee · 20/12/2013 12:11

always wear face powder and elnett for work - somehow feel more groomed

also when powdering my nose, I always hear Jack Jones' "Wives and Lovers" playing in my head, which is never a bad thing.

Rubybrazilianwax · 20/12/2013 16:35

I love hairspray. Also use it to sleek brows and spray in slippy shoes

AlaskaNebraska · 20/12/2013 16:53

That's a good link

Doesn't everyone use hairspray? I never stopped. although to no longer use it to glue my fringe up 3 inches high and set with a hair dryer

JemimaPuddle · 20/12/2013 23:08

I've never used hairspray! I'm intrigued now though, which Elnette do i need? Hair just past shoulders, fine & not a lot of it.

JennyPiccolo · 20/12/2013 23:19

I bought a black cherry lipstick a few weeks ago on a nostalgia trip. Have to say I still love it.

MincedMuffPies · 20/12/2013 23:25

I have never used hairspray apart from being a chavvy teen doing a vicky pollard with the croyden facelift

what does it do?

Coumarin · 21/12/2013 01:09

I've always used powder. These days I use very little of it so zero cakey-ness. Loose powder very lightly dusted on t zone and then a quick swoop over the rest of my face. Sets everything nicely. My nose is super shiny but oddly not oily.

Recently discovered Eshiko loose powder. Amazing stuff, almost invisible. Before that it was Bobbi Brown translucent loose powder.

I hate the smell of hairspray but in this weather if I leave it wavy I need a squoosh of good ol' Elnett or I'd be like Monica on her holidays by lunchtime.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 21/12/2013 12:41

What does it do? Holds your hair where you want it - ish. Probably helps reduce the frizz a bit if you're prone to frizz. I'd feel naked without hairspray Smile

SirChenjin · 21/12/2013 12:49

I haven't used hairspray in years - I'm constantly battling thick, wavy, frizzy hair with all manner of serums and smoothing creams. The last time I used it was back in the eighties when I used to fix my seriously big barnet in place, so maybe that mental image has put me off the stuff for life. Elnett, you say? Might give it a go.

SundaySimmons · 21/12/2013 22:18

I love hairspray.

Back in the day I used to tip my hair upside down and spray it! I had a perm then and must have looked like an electrocuted a Kevin Keegan!

sandiy · 21/12/2013 22:29

Does hairspray really stop frizz. Why did no one tell me.I have text book Christmas tree hair.Seriously I've tried everything to de frizz including Brazilian blow drys hundreds and hundreds of pounds and I could have been using hairspray now I'm cross.
