I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

CV - no advice, but it must be Maddening. Lazy entitled behaviour when you're running round like a blue-arsed fly trying to organise HIS Christmas warrants a kick in the slats. Or, ignoring until after the craziness is all over.

BD - I've been pondering your job dilemma. I suppose it expends on your real feelings about job B. do you just feel you should take it, bit really don't want to, or you're actually scared of change and coming up with reasons not to do something that would ultimately be good for you. Like I would.

In offspring news, DS was in our bed half the night, being all hot and with a horrid chesty cough. This morning, much better. So I took him to school. Hope I'm not a mean mummy.

And AF has started, at last. Three weeks later than billed.

lalsy · 19/12/2013 10:18

I agree about survival. CV - how old is ds?

London crepesters, where would you suggest 14yo ds and his grandmother go to to clothes shopping? We rarely venture further than our local H and M. Would like to suggest somewhere reasonably central that might be fun/vaguely festive (ds tolerance of shopping v low).

Stropperella · 19/12/2013 10:20

CV, my utmost sympathy. As herbs says, nothing more aggravating than that type of behaviour when you are busting a gut to try and get everything sorted. I did have relatively calm but still v fierce words earlier this week with dd about similar and am still fuming that something that I have repeatedly asked her to do since last Friday has still not been done. But I am trying to rise above it and simply not paying out the remains of her allowance until it has been done.
Despite dd doing relatively little revision (as far as I could tell) she has managed to get A in her maths and French mocks and an A in a controlled assessment in German. She bombed in physics, but as it turned out her set's teacher had failed to teach them an entire topic that was in the exam, I'm not sure what is going on there. She did passably in Eng Lang - despite cocking up on the timing and only doing a fraction of the question with the most marks, so was not too depressed to end up with a C but only 1 mark off a B, as she was convinced she had done badly enough to get a U. Teacher promises lots of timed practice tests to get them all up to speed. No other results in yet, but no tantrums yet either. She enjoyed (!) 6th form taster day and is now thinking of maths, biol and chemistry and geography for A levels. We'll see.

It's such a blardy rollercoaster...

herbaceous · 19/12/2013 10:21

Are the clothes for DS or grandmother? I must say, I avoid going 'up west' in the festive season, as it's so hellishly crowded, but fun and festive places might include Covent Garden or St Christopher's Place. SCP is near Selfridges, where they can go and gawp at the outrageously priced 'gifts'.

bigTillyMintspie · 19/12/2013 10:36

Well, Oxford Street has all the big stores and the Christmas lights but will be hellishly busy. Covent Garden is much nicer, and there are a few high street stores, more along Long Acre.

Well doneFlowers to teenStropps - obviously takes after her mum on the languages front! Were they the "proper" mocks? DD says the teachers say they are not allowed to tell them what they got for CA'sConfused Why not languages at A'level?

Too true about the rollercoaster - I can't work out if DD is just tired or if it's worse. Though she seemed fine on the weekend, especially when they got their Beyonce ticketsConfused

addle · 19/12/2013 10:56

Thank you for l. recipe CV and lots of sympathy with ds. hv similar sitn quite often with ds age 14 (on entirely different note do you have any pics of yr mother's designs you wouldn't mind sharing? sounds fab)

Good stuff Stropps and teenStropps/

And yes BTM think I will go. would you like me to PM you with any news if you don't? or do you have lots of moles?

I may go too - hopefully se you there, but yes, PM please if not! I have lots of moles, but of the skin varietyGrin

herbaceous · 19/12/2013 11:00

I did an early morning raid (well, 10am) on Westfield Stratford, and even that was getting mildly uncivilised in John Lewis. I'm not doing anything more taxing than that.

motherinferior · 19/12/2013 11:52

Have been to school play, which was curious blend of nativity and Little Match Girl. Felt they could have ramped up the socio-economic critique, really Grin

lalsy · 19/12/2013 12:34

Thanks for ideas everyone. Clothes are for ds (shudders at idea of reverse!)

I think it is a very familiar story, CV. And I don't think knowing how to do homework quickly, efficiently and well enough comes naturally to all dc (my dd definitely needed help with organising, getting right bits together, starting at the beginning and going through to the end, that sort of rocket science).

Blackduck · 19/12/2013 12:56

DD Stropps -fab...

Herbs - I think there is a lot in what you say re job. I went for job b because everyone tells me I need to be nearer home for ds - this will actually become less of an issue in a couple of years, but really the current situation isn't dire. The job didn't wow me and is in a less prestigious org, but I'm terrible once offered I kind of feel I have to take it (this is all tied out with being scared of being out of work)

Ho hum...

Anyway more temples here and Campeche which is beyond beautiful....

motherinferior · 19/12/2013 12:58

Crepeys...I have a truly crepey decision. It pertains to slippers. I work from home. I get cold feet. I don't wear shoes in the house. Etc. Etc.

I am pondering these

or alternatively these which technically aren't slippers but would serve same purpose...

motherinferior · 19/12/2013 12:59

bugger

Blackduck · 19/12/2013 13:06

I am hoping for something similar under the Christmas tree when I get back.... :)

herbaceous · 19/12/2013 13:16

MI - I think the M&S ones are best. The silver will set off your jazzy office a treat. And besides, I don't like the ruching on the Bodens.

bigTillyMintspie · 19/12/2013 13:23

MI, the bootie ones I bought recently keep my feet toastie - I think it's because they have a proper thick sole that you can go outside in here

motherinferior · 19/12/2013 13:29

I am currently wearing a pair of M&S fake-suedey ones but they're becoming frankly huge and revolting. I think I might go for the sequins. WHy not.

Am also fuming because it appears that Mr Inferior has put on an Ocado order without telling me. And I can’t think of what to put on it, but if I don’t, we’ll be eating horrible food on Christmas day.

CremolaFirCone · 19/12/2013 14:25

I like the sparkly ones mi.
Is there time to amend the ocado order online mi. ( add gin and Nurofen )??

S&b question : what do we do about whispers < lady tashes>?
Wax pluck thread???
HRT has turned me into a bloke. I'll be able to do a fringe soon

addle · 19/12/2013 14:30

MI I think the colour on the Boden ones is lovely but suspect they won't last so it's another vote for the M&S (fancy a pair myself) but TK Maxx also have the isotoner ones BTM linked to in unlikely event you have the leisure to browse.

bigTillyMintspie · 19/12/2013 14:57

Really Cremo (re HRT)? I haven't noticed any changes like that and I've been on it for 3 years now!

Oooh addle, maybe I should get a back-up pair!

motherinferior · 19/12/2013 14:58

Cremo, I'd get it threaded though would take powerful painkillers first.

I may just get a cheap suedey pair, but the sequins are very...jolly.

lalsy · 19/12/2013 15:29

i told my ds this morning that his 'tache is now bigger than mine. he was very pleased.

hattymattie · 19/12/2013 15:30

MI - I just ordered the Boden ones but hadn't seen M&S ones which you can put bins out with so go for M&S. Ideally would like real sheepskin ones but I think they become UGGs then don't they?

Herb's - uncivilised in John Lewis's - what is the world coming to?

I have ordered Military moleskin coat in Boden sale - it is £47 but is low stock so don't know if I'll get it.

Cremo - I thought HRT was supposed to stop that sort of thing!

I have been on quick raid to M&S Champs Elysee - this on a mince pie run with a few other assorted goodies. It's madness in there but I have obtained several boxes. They're literally stacking them straight in off the pallet such is the market for English goodies in Paris.
