I couldn't see that anyone else had started a new thread, after Stropps carelessly finished the old one without starting a new one, so here you are. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

This is reminding me that we still haven't sorted our wills - the appointment I had made in half-term wasn't put in the solicitors diary...

CV, she does sound a bit tricky. I think you have done extremely well lasting out there for so long!

herbaceous · 03/01/2014 19:05

Ditto CV. I don't think you've sounded remotely unreasonable. She sounds a blasted nightmare. It's all a bit pass-agg, not letting anyone know - let alone your guests - what your plans are, when they might, eat, etc, then getting all arsey if they dare take matters into their own hands.

And of course, re NOK. This cold has reduced my IQ by approx 50 (fifty) points.

QueenQueenie · 03/01/2014 21:37

Is that 50 (fifty, L) points Herbs?

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2014 22:39

I thought it was "L" for "Loser".

Which, on reflection, would be rather unkind. Grin Especially on his birthday.

Auriga · 03/01/2014 23:08

I couldn't have stood it, CV, you've done well. How would she respond to day-planning chats over breakfast?

DH had gruesome dreams about people dying horribly last night, while I had dull ones about putting the old covers back on our settee Blush. Think we may be turning into each other.

Another day lost to migraine today. Would have been a day off, too.

lalsy · 03/01/2014 23:17

I couldn't have stood it either. I hate competitive laid-backness.

Blackduck · 04/01/2014 08:13

CV! Actually do caught on really fast and realised what the 'L' signified!!

He took himself and ds to the coast (!) with the intention of swimmining in the sea (!!) but other than that it was a low key birthday... He wants to eat at Noma so I need to try to arrange for later in the year (when my credit cards have recovered from Mexico...)

Hope all is getting sorted MrsS...

Blackduck · 04/01/2014 08:16

See QQ clearly had a classical education ;) (dp's Latin came in handy)

Depends on age of child and whether parents can be trusted to supervise, I would say Rudy. I like having kids around at parties, but only the ones I know and like, IFSWIM. I managed to winnow out several children who would have been a demanding headache at a recent party by inviting them thus: "Children very welcome, there will be a small noisy herd of them. I will feed them sausages/hotdogs [e-numbers, gristle] and they can sleep where they fall." A number of PFBs suddenly sprouted babysitters Grin.

CV - I think you've done well to cope, I would find a lack of any real plan or communication a real pain, especially when there is a houseful. Large numbers of people are like a supertanker - very unwieldy and they need someone at the helm.

One week until I have a teenager....

wilbur · 04/01/2014 11:07

Cross posts - oh no, you cannot have a toddler at a nice ladies' lunch! I would say no to that too, if I had arranged something nice like that. In the past I would have said yes (pushover that I am) and then deeply regretted it. No More! Rudy, you have a zillion children yourself, you have done the toddler thing, you don't have to do it any more.

To be fair, she might be one of those little girls who will sit entranced by an iPad for hours on end, I understand there are toddlers like that, although I have not experienced one myself.

bigTillyMintspie · 04/01/2014 11:32

Rudy, I so know where you are coming from - just had a cuppa with a friend in a local café where a pre-schooler was banging and throwing. Nothing too outrageous, but a little annoying. Unless it is a toddler of the sitting quietly for hours variety, I would say no - been there got the Tshirt!

Is it dry enough for footy where you are? DS is well peed off as all footy cancelled this weekend. He and DH are going to try the golfing range!

Was the L Roman numerals for 50? That's what I thought, but I'm only a lowly ps teacher!

Blackduck · 04/01/2014 11:44

Rudy in the case you describe - no, no children....

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/01/2014 11:50

Rudy - JUST SAY NO!

CointreauVersial · 04/01/2014 11:52

We are at the ferry terminal, waiting to board.

SIL got up half an hour before us this morning, made breakfast for everyone, a stack of sandwiches/flask of tea for our journey, and gave each of the DCs ten Euro to spend on the ferry.

Blush Blush

I'm a moany, ungrateful cow, aren't I?

bigTillyMintspie · 04/01/2014 12:14

CV, I would be exactly the same as youSmile Different strokes and all that!

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/01/2014 12:16

No, CV, she is just bonkers.

I have not had one minute to myself since the DDs broke up. I go into town, they come with me. I stay in, DH goes out, the DDs stay in with me. He is having another lovely morning to himself listening to records, while I trudge dismally round the sales with the DDs looking for new jeans in Gap.

MrsS you need to go out and tell him he is dealing... Tell them all you need time to yourself!!

BTM - I had to google it ;) (comprehensive child that I was....)

bigTillyMintspie · 04/01/2014 12:41

Rudy, DS's game has been transferred to astro tomorrow. Thank God!

MrsS, do your DD's not do shopping with their friends every day like mine seem to?!

Stropperella · 04/01/2014 13:13

CV, I think you're pretty saintly for putting up with those "arrangements" for a week, actually. I couldn't have done it without getting extremely, er, tetchy.

Rudy, well done on keeping it adults only. Grin

MrsS, I second BD.

My dcs have barely left the sofa for the whole of the last fortnight. RL is going to come as a nasty shock to them on Monday. Not looking forward to it myself, actually.

Boo rain and boo floods is all I can say at the moment. It is all very horrid for the poor souls who are flooded. There are a lot round here Sad. The bottom end of town is awash.
