Be warned! Those of you on the look out for a hooded coat that is warm and waterproof, heals this warning. You may end up looking like a mum.

Fogs, first it was "the wrong boots", then tunics and waterfall cardigans. There's probably more. Why can't women just bloody wear whatever suits them and their situation without being constantly judged!

hoists big pants and flounces off

capsium · 05/12/2013 17:59

Well. I'm a Mum. I dress in what I want. If I dressed like a teenager would that be any better?

I'd be miserable and cold if I dressed like the teens round our way! No coats, short, short, short, skirts. No thanks.

overmydeadbody · 05/12/2013 18:01

Humph.

I am a teahcer, I see hundreds of mums every day, and guess what, they all dress differently, with lots of variety. They don't all look the same. They are a big mix of people from stylish to drab, from sophisticated to comfortable, from cutting edge fashion to just got dressed in the clothes I found in a crumpled heap on the floor.

I hate stupid articles like this.

dexter73 · 05/12/2013 18:01

Sounds like she is going to get cold and wet when she has to spend hours at the park in the winter!

Bunbaker · 05/12/2013 18:01

What a ridiculous article. How shallow is this journalist. Life is for living, not worrying about how other people judge us based on what we wear.

I agree with wild.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/12/2013 18:05

Self-obsessed ridiculous sounding woman.

I dress like a Mum because I am a Mum. Ergo whatever I wear is dressing like a mum.

RobinSparkles · 05/12/2013 18:07

Who is she to judge? She's just in jeans (albeit horrible patterned ones), a jumper and trainers! What's un-mumlike about that?

She looks shit.

overmydeadbody · 05/12/2013 18:08

And I tell you what, the mums in the playground where I work look a hell of a lot better dressed than all the students in the uni next door. IMO they are the drab boring ones who have chosen comfort over style.

timidviper · 05/12/2013 18:08

I am a Mum and I dress like one because style takes second place to practicality and comfort on a day to day basis. I don't dress like Waynetta Slob and I can still scrub up and dress up when I need or want to but on a daily basis I don't need to dress to impress so my life is no longer as focussed on fashion

I think it is quite sad that anyone would expect mothers to add being a fashionista to the list of things to do.

Owllady · 05/12/2013 18:09

I have bought one of those sleeping bag coats solely for standing in the freezing cold one night a week whilst my daughter horserides
I detest it but I would rather be warm
Does that make me look like a mum or does it just make me old

KosherBacon · 05/12/2013 18:12

She doesn't tell us what cost she has opted for. I do wonder. Is she ditching all coats in fear of looking like a mum? Or wearing white cashmere in order to stand out?

OP posts:
Owllady · 05/12/2013 18:12

I have just read the article, she needs to grow up,Jesus
Leggings, trainers and a baggy t is hardly Mrs fashion

Owllady · 05/12/2013 18:13

She is opting for heart disease

AngelaDaviesHair · 05/12/2013 18:14

Erm... has it not occurred to her that for all except the most affluent parents, disposable income is swallowed up by childcare, so both men and women will look very different once they've had children. It's not all or even mostly about lack of time or a change in attitude though that's in there, along with weight gain.

I still love clothes as much as ever, possibly more, now that I can't rely on youthful good looks. I just don't have as much money to spend on them as I used to.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 05/12/2013 18:16

What a load of crap.

I don't think I dress like a mum but I do dress like a lot of women in their early 40s, late 30s, mothers or not.

dexter73 · 05/12/2013 18:18

She does mention her coats - a faux fur Calvin Klein jacket for cold days and a bright red YMC x Gloverall duffle for rainy days.

dexter73 · 05/12/2013 18:21

Duffle - looks fairly ordinary to me, but not very warm for a cold and wet day.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 05/12/2013 18:22

yup. I am a mother. I wear clothes. ergo I dress like a mum.

also, I would die a bit inside if I ever described a chunky, oversized knit as "something exciting that reflects our personalities".

and another also - I am wearing the pretty much the same Nikes and sweater combo as the author of the piece, which means she certainly ain't as cutting edge as she'd like to believe.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/12/2013 18:23

I lost the will to live half way through reading that article. I dress for the weather. I did that before I was a mum too.

Hullygully · 05/12/2013 18:25

no idea

ShoeWhore · 05/12/2013 18:30

Oh good Lord - personally I quite like clothes but really - who cares?!

Oblomov · 05/12/2013 18:35

I too lost the will to live.

MomentForLife · 05/12/2013 18:36

Silly woman. I'm 25 with a 5 year old, have never dressed Mumsy, whatever that is. I have what I suppose she'd say is a Mum coat, I actually feel more like a chav in it.

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/12/2013 18:42

According to her list of 'mum' clothes yes I do dress like a mum but 1. I don't care if I look like a mum because I am one and 2. I look a damn sight better than her in those hideous trousers
So there we go

agirlcalledsandoz · 05/12/2013 18:43

What a boring woman Hmm

Mutton springs to mind
