Be warned! Those of you on the look out for a hooded coat that is warm and waterproof, heals this warning. You may end up looking like a mum.

I'd look ridiculous in "a blingin' sparkly knit".

OneLittleLady · 05/12/2013 23:10

Sparkly knits are uncomfortable, they make me itch so I'll pass on those TYVM

ZingSweetPea · 05/12/2013 23:31

oh and I've been wearing maternity clothes for the best part of the last 13 years and will carry on for at least another 2 years as #7 is due next summer and I won't be out of them before his/her first birthday!

is that "Mum" enough?Grin

NewBeginningsSnoopy · 05/12/2013 23:45

A sparkly sweater??!!

What planet is she on??!! How patronising. And how embarrassing that she uses herself as the model of how 'we should be dressing' haha! She looks... like a mum who's trying too hard to look like a teenager! Ugh! No thanks!!

Bahhhhhumbug · 05/12/2013 23:46

My DD calls those sparkly tops 'Bingo tops' Grin

daimbardiva · 06/12/2013 10:46

Rita Ora?!!! Ffs

Whentheredredrobingoesbobbobbo · 06/12/2013 11:00

Glad I read that, was on the verge of getting a mum coat
I won't bother now

Popscene88 · 06/12/2013 11:14

FGS. This reminds me of my friend who works in fashion. She is lovely but she keeps messaging me with links to pilates and spin classes for after the birth and telling me she will style me after I've had my baby and "not to worry I won't let you dress like a mum".

Er, thanks for your concern but I really think I will have slightly more pressing priorities.

And if the author thinks she looks trendy, she looks exactly the same as everyone else IMO.

funnyvalentine · 06/12/2013 12:04

I never got a mum coat when my kids were born :( perhaps because they were born in the summer. Do you think if I asked nicely, they'd give one to me now? My kids have a habit of wanting to go to the playground, and it is starting to get a bit nippy out. A warm coat would be just the thing!

SirChenjin · 06/12/2013 12:08

Molly Gunn is very boring

QueenCadbury · 06/12/2013 13:14

I dress like a mum because I am a mum. If I worked in an office I would dress like an office worker. Surely it's just about dressing appropriate for the occasion?

burnishedsilver · 06/12/2013 13:40

I am a mum so I suppose the answer is yes. I certainly dont dress like a Dad! I'm not convinced that a single woman of the same age would dress much differently though.

MamaPingu · 06/12/2013 14:07

She looks horrendous, not exactly up on fashion is she!!

SauceForTheGander · 06/12/2013 14:15

Jeez. She got paid for essentially saying "I don't want to dress like you boring mums and that makes me more interesting"

Who gives a fuck. Wear what you want.

I love my black waterproof bloody warm hooded coat. It's the only thing I enjoy about the school run.

Notonaschoolnight · 06/12/2013 14:30

You Must Create duffel I wish! But no way could I afford it, I bought a shirt from Tu yesterday was £16 but half price and then 25% off . That's more my level

ZingSweetPea · 06/12/2013 15:30

there once was a journo named Molly,
She made herself look like a dolly
wearing crap clotches
while mocking Mums' coats,
her foolishness made me quite jolly!

ZingSweetPea · 06/12/2013 15:32

*clothes

not clotches

Ephiny · 06/12/2013 15:40

I'm not even a mum, but I just bought the Merrell Haven coat after seeing it recommended on MN every winter...I think it is probably the definition of a mum coat.

But personally, I quite like being warm and dry. I remember not wanting to wear a coat as a teenager, because I thought it was all 'uncool' or whatever we called it in those days. Fortunately, I'm not a teenager any more, and feel no obligation to be cold and uncomfortable for the sake of fashion.
Maybe it's more an age thing than anything to do with being a parent or not?

EauRouge · 06/12/2013 15:41

On my list of things to worry about, other people's approval of my choice of clothing is pretty close to the bottom.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 06/12/2013 16:00

Yeah I think it's an age thing. I think it's a way of getting at middle aged women without appearing to get at them directly.

JulesSilo17 · 06/12/2013 16:47

I have a new Sherpa lined parka with a hood which is warm and practical and i bought it specifically for watching DS play football on a Sunday. Its from Hollister - I was complimented by a gaggle of 14 year olds last time I collected DS from school - does it still make it a mum coat? Confused Its is green though not grey/navy/black

QueNoelle · 06/12/2013 17:05

I'm no style icon (no really) but I won't be taking fashion tips from Molly or her mates any time soon. Her 'professional' advice amounts to dropping a load of brand names all over the place, and wearing trainers and sportswear when you're not doing any sport. No thanks.

NickyNackyNooNoo · 06/12/2013 17:17

I am a Mum and she is a loon Grin

I wear whatever I like fashionable or not and if I look Mumsy, hobo, smoking hot, pile of sh$te, height of fashion, toasty or sophisticated totally depends on my mood and occassion.

I truely thought the pictures were how not to look I'll get me Mumsy or non Mumsy coat Wink

bettykt · 06/12/2013 17:24

I'm a mum, and I'll be wearing my furry hooded duvet coat whilst waiting in the playground lovely waiting for dc. If she wants to shiver and get soaked in her duffel be my guest but I'll stick to my bottom covering duvet coat, don't care what it looks like, I need to be warm.

AmethystMoon · 06/12/2013 17:51

Ha ha ha! Stupid woman. She looks really frumpy in that oh so stylish red sweatshirt, unflattering jeans and trainers combo...oh how funny.
Why on earth is she blogging about fashion? She looks like she is following another very well known fashion blog for those around the age of forty....but the two women are totally different shapes!
She is a sheep....baaaaaa!
