I need to look KNOCKOUT!

Help please! Grin

I have an event coming up that (for reasons I won't go into here) I need to look AMAZING! It's a party but not at an overly glamorous location.

I have quite fixed ideas of what I'd like - cream, white or gold (or possibly red) knee length fitted dress (bodycon?) preferably sleeveless and with a bit of cleavage and/or back in show.. Not work type material but not too sparkly.. Unsurprisingly, with such tight requirements, I'm having difficulty finding this - can anyone help please? TIA Thanks

I still think the first red dress looks best. Or one of the red ones twinkle posted. Don't know your colouring etc but the cream ones look harder to 'pull off ' effortlessly and some as said look a bit 'bridal'.

Anglomania dresses are brilliant but it does depend on your shape - if you are a norky hourglass they are likely to work well for you.

Twinklestein · 24/11/2013 18:51

I find them sack-like round the waist, even in the smallest size.

HappyGirlNow · 24/11/2013 21:10

Ooh thanks Twinkle - like the Donna Karan one but it's maybe a bitty short. I would consider a colour change but those are the colours that look bets on me although midnight blue suits me too..

Thanks Koala I'll try that site..

gold

tethersend · 24/11/2013 21:16

Could you do orange?

tethersend · 24/11/2013 21:18

over budget cream

tethersend · 24/11/2013 21:21

unusual cream

tethersend · 24/11/2013 21:25

You'd get £250 change if you got this one

HappyGirlNow · 24/11/2013 21:32

Aw thank you Tethers - afraid none of them are standing out for me.. I don't really suit orange although that is quite a reddish one.. The first cream dress is too loose and the second one is.. Em.. Interesting Grin

Probably unhelpful but would you consider a LBD? This one m.coast-stores.com/rubee-dress/dresses/coast/fcp-product/2224843980 seems to be the kind of thing you're after apart from the colour...

ClaireUnderwood · 25/11/2013 01:19

Pretty rather than sexy but does come in red, cream and midnight blue! www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/cocktail/PRDOVR~02890/02890.jsp

TheZeeTeam · 25/11/2013 01:28

I think the first Vivienne Westwood dress is perfect for the occasion. I don't get while you'll want to be getting your tits out for the ex though?!! Grin

I'm off to order it myself for DH's xmas work party. Thanks!!

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 25/11/2013 01:46

I bloody love that Donna Karan one that Twinkle linked to.

Wishfulmakeupping · 25/11/2013 02:59

My favourite so far is the LK Bennett cream one twinkles linked to- stunning and doesn't look too 'try hard'

HappyGirlNow · 25/11/2013 08:26

Ha TheZeeTeamI don't want tits out just maybe a wee bitty more flesh on show Grin

HappyGirlNow · 25/11/2013 08:30

Thanks Claire - first one too short - not the best legs.. Like the second one but not quite want I'm looking for..

Thanks all for your help, much appreciated! Grin

Ok, I know I said strapless was a bit try hard maybe but I quite like this one cos it's quite plain and simple - what do you all think?

If it's a dress you only need to wear once, I recommend hiring from wishwantwear.com. They have a lovely red temperley on there at the moment

flipchart · 25/11/2013 08:39

It's nice but the Vivienne Westwood is still the best by far.

waltermittymissus · 25/11/2013 08:45

Westwood gets my vote too!

deXavia · 25/11/2013 08:48

Vivienne Westwood gets my vote to - sorry that last one was a bit "Jessica Rabbit". Look you got the man - and without knowing anything about the circumstances of the split and your relationship you can guarantee that Old Auntie Mavis thinks you're a tart, so frankly anything showing a bit too much flesh is just helping the gossip - frankly in the circumstances I'd be covering up rather than showing less.
Go for classy but sexy and let them all focus on how utterly delightful you are.

deXavia · 25/11/2013 08:49

little OTT on the frankly's but sure you get the idea Blush

HappyGirlNow · 25/11/2013 08:56

Haha thanks dexavia I do love the Westwood one Grin

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 25/11/2013 10:24

What dexavia said. I don't think the dress itself needs to too 'obvious' - you've said yourself you're pretty glam, so you'll put it together with lovely shoes, jewellery etc so the whole effect is classy.
