Hello winters! I've been away for a while as was trying not to buy anything during Jan.

I need to get out of my grey, black and navy comfort zone. Has anyone seen any shirts recently in the greens, reds or purples?

bettybigballs · 13/02/2014 19:07

I'm having a little look at coats, i need something other than black. Colour wise, what do you think of these?

Navy

Green but maybe a bit bright?

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 13/02/2014 19:45

That green one is amaaaazing...and so warm if 100% wool.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 16/02/2014 14:41

Am so proud of myself. I bought this geometric print dress and it really works on me. Would never ever have tried it before but thanks to HOC I gave it a go and it is fab. Grin. (and polyester shhhh). Grin Grin Grin

Fooogle · 17/02/2014 07:14

Lovely dress face. I always like the idea of dresses but rarely find good ones on me. Need long sleeves and a waist that doesn't sit where mine isn't! Tk maxx calls...!
Am itching to go shopping though also keen to double check my winteryness as still paranoid it's wrong.
Anyone feel a bit 80s as winter? The make up colours all feel quite unnatural to me yet I know they are better suited. Is there a 'natural' winter look?!

Fooogle · 17/02/2014 07:18

betty I noticed house of fraser has lots of coats in the sale... I'm seeing if there may be a good one for me. I'd like grey, navy or green I think... The hobbs ones look quite tasty...

KosherBacon · 17/02/2014 07:22

Face- that dress is lovely. I picked it up and hummed about it myself the other week.

Foogle- a favourite eye look of mine is MAC vex and shake eyeshadows. Cooler leaning neutrals and no 80s effect. This isn't me but here is a blog post about how they look combined www.makeup-box.com/post/12833655914/lazy-face-smoked-plum-lids-for-work-school You might like it with a sheer lipgloss that is bold, such as Revlon Bordeaux.

bettybigballs · 17/02/2014 08:46

Ohhhh let me know if you find anything foogle.

Still on a blouse mission, have bought an emerald green on eBay but a. It worried it's quite muted. I really want a burgundy or purple one. Shopping is sooo hard when you're restricted.

I'm thinking about getting style day too but worried id be even more restricted...

QueenCadbury · 17/02/2014 09:31

Hi ladies, I'm back! I had a little break from mumsnet as just needed some time out but now I'm looking forward to catching up on the links I've missed. I also can't blame mn for making me buy things as I've bought some new stuff. Will link later.

Lovely dress.

Re the 80s, I have pics of me wearing jewel winter colours. Shame I lost my way during my 20s. As a sultry winter I tend to use the brighter colours for accessories, layering tops and lipsticks/nail polishes. I have a few cardigans in my best bright colours as well.

Have been wearing a lot of burgundy with navy or charcoal lately.

Welcome back Queen - have you found the perfect emerald cardigan yet?!

MissScatterbrain · 17/02/2014 10:15

Froogle - I don't wear foundation, blusher or coloured eye shadows but do love wearing lipsticks and mascara.

bettybigballs · 17/02/2014 12:02

Hello Cadbury! How are you doing?

I'm not doing work and continuing with coat shopping! Do you think this is close enough? it says navy but looks brighter

Love this but need to step away from the black!

MissScatterbrain · 17/02/2014 12:25

Can;t tell if this is a good navy for you - you'll need to see it in RL.

hillyhilly · 17/02/2014 19:33

Hello all! I was diagnosed a jewel winter last week.
Am struggling a bit with the make up. My foundation and blusher are fine, I bought a turquoise metallic eyeliner and am trying but I feel like a little kid who's been in mummy's makeup bag!
I am seeing the consultant again tomorrow to talk lipstick!
I had a quick shop on Saturday but got a but pissed off if I'm honest, as someone else said, it's hard enough finding thing that flatter or hide bum and boobs!
Currently it feels like an extra complexity , going out on Saturday took forever!

SorrelForbes · 17/02/2014 20:57

I'm a jewel winter too. I've stopped bothering with eyeshadow as it seemed too much with the blusher and the lipstick. I just use grey shadow as eyeliner.

QueenCadbury · 17/02/2014 21:10

Just caught up with what I've missed. It seems that most of us have most problems with the make up. I wonder if other seasons do too or if it's just us?

babypig I'm with you on the sharpness and clearness of colours. I really need that too. I struggle with grey as most tops/tees are marl or a dullish grey and I need a bright grey iyswim.

pink that next top looks like the spots may be stone? So should be ok.

missscatter I'm still searching for that elusive emerald cardi!!!

My purchases have been the esprit top that I think I linked to before. I love it. Colour wise it probably be better as a darker navy but the style is absolutely spot on for me. This white blouse is very me too. And inexpensive enough that if it gets covered in ketchup/chocolate fingers etc it won't matter too much. And this navy vest which I'm very much looking forward to wearing once it warms up.

QueenCadbury · 17/02/2014 21:13

Ooh, just found this top which comes in green or purple.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 17/02/2014 21:21

Funny, about the makeup. I very quickly ditched all ideas of warmth and bronzers as I got very excited about the idea of being all porcelain skin with striking contrasts, and interestingly pale. Grin. I use a tiny bit of pink blush.

I have realised that some of my red lippies are orange based Sad. I looked at them in the tube in daylight and thought 'terracotta'. Isn't it hard to find a red that isn't pinkie or orangey....I like the recommendations we've had lately but haven't pursued them.

I like the Mua lippies in Superdrug...there's a deep plum one that is nice and not tooooo vivid.

bettybigballs · 18/02/2014 08:35

Love those tops Cadbury, if only they had a sleeve they'd be exactly what I was after.

I'm also loving the make-up, found it hard until I chucked away bronzer and realised I needed to embrace my paleness and occasionally pop on a touch of Bobbi brown cream blusher if I've not had much sleep.

On my shopping list for the next few months are:

Blouses in my star colours
A couple of skirts
A couple if day dresses, non jersey in coours that's aren't black, navy or grey. Need some colour in my life!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 18/02/2014 13:24

Okay, I am sick on only having black cardigans. What do you think of this blue cardi?

MissScatterbrain · 18/02/2014 14:27

Have seen these cardigans - the only problem is the deep ribbed waist which made me look a bit odd, these might suit you though.

Fairyliz · 18/02/2014 15:35

Can I have a little moan? Went shopping yesterday and there seemed to be lots of navy around which is good as I use it as a base colour. However it always seemed to be teamed with cream/ivory rather than white when in a a patterned or striped item.
Has anyone seen a navy and white top?

passata · 18/02/2014 15:42

I'm looking for a navy/white striped something-or-other for under a navy blazer.

SorrelForbes · 18/02/2014 15:57

Me too. I really want a blue/white stripped Breton (type) top, preferably in a really nice fabric

MissScatterbrain · 18/02/2014 16:34

Boden has three long sleeved tops in navy with an ivory stripe - the ivory is almost white and dominated by the dark navy. Are these any good? I have their ivory with navy stripe breton which is a bit naughty but it works well in my wardrobe as a layering top.

Alternatively try petit bateu (I used to stock up on their stock for the DC and myself when visiting France). I wouldn't be surprised if other stores stock bretons now that these seem to be really popular - I think Gap & H&M might do these as they have done so in previous years.
