Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

Must say despite the dry feel the double wear stayed perfect all day! Maybe I need a better base first

pinkflaming0 · 30/01/2014 00:02

My skin is combination and not at all dry so yes - different skin types.

Some Korean blushers in cool shades - I love Korean cosmetics and they are so fun and innovative compared to Western makeup. Easy to find them online and a lot come with free shipping, although shipping takes a while!

Missha rose petal blusher in cool shades

Etude House cupcake 3in1 cheeks/eyes/lips in a cool pink (there is also a lavender shade)

TonyMoly blusher in pink - OK so quite ordinary but who can resist the little powder puff?

Etude House Water Color blusher in pink or lavender - love how they look like tubes of paint

Btw Korean BB creams are infinitely better than Western ones, more like foundation while here they are basically souped-up tinted moisturisers.

LittleBabyPigsus · 30/01/2014 00:20

This is the Sleek blush set I was talking about by the way.

LittleBabyPigsus · 30/01/2014 03:01

Opinions needed - can a Bright Winter get away with this t-shirt in green? I know it's quite a yellow green but I can get away with yellow to an extent (as opposed to golden greens which make me look ill) given my neutral skintone. Rest of the outfit would mostly be black/white if that helps - thinking skinny high-waisted jeans and dr martens, maybe a black or white (or maybe grey?) jersey blazer. What about a black/white/grey cardi or would a blazer be better?

LittleBabyPigsus · 30/01/2014 03:02

^skinny high-waisted black jeans to be more precise

MissScatterbrain · 31/01/2014 16:00

Its your choice - I personally wouldn't wear that much apple green so close to my face.

LittleBabyPigsus · 31/01/2014 19:25

Is it terrible that I rather like the Tove dress in emerald here? Can't find a way to link to the individual item but you can see it there. The colour is officially called dark emerald and it looks lightish to me, but I really like it so don't care that much Grin

pinkflaming0 · 02/02/2014 22:04

I've been wondering about this for a while. Are there items of clothing that purely due to their colour combination don't suit anyone? I'm thinking about things like the 'classic' combination of black and camel. Only winters was wear black but camel isn't a winter colour I think so does that combination actually suit anyone?

I have this top www.next.co.uk/x53140s6#897233x53 I am a winter so the black is OK but the spots are taupe, not a winter colour I think? I suit the shape of the top, love it with the shorts that I also have so will be keeping it but should the colours not really not suit me (or anyone)? Or is it about the proportion of colours i.e. you can get away with a small amount of a 'wrong' colour?

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 03/02/2014 07:21

I've been wondering this same thing about the classic royal blue or black and gold combination - blue jacket with gold buttons, and so on. I've decided not to let it get to me and just see whether it suits me!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 03/02/2014 07:21

Oh, and that might be 'mole' might it? A very cool grey-ish beige-ish colour?

MissScatterbrain · 03/02/2014 08:49

Mole is darker than this taupe. The taupe is fairly neutral and the black is very dominant so I would try it. It would be different if the spots were orange though.

The problem with gold is that its shiny, very warm and can cheapen the look of winter coloured clothes. I remember HOC showing me two drapes with warm colours on one and cool colours on another and then putting silver/gold/pearl jewellery on these and you could really see the difference.

I bought a cheap royal purple cardigan, it had gold buttons - swopped these for mother of pearl buttons bought cheaply from ebay and it now looks far more expensive.

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/02/2014 17:01

I found a great lipstick for winters - and it's super cheap! It's Blue Rose by NYC and is £1.99 in Superdrug. It's a bright fuchsia with a blue-purple sheen - I was looking for a purple lipstick but a bright blue-purple, not a plum but only Maybelline and Revlon have properly bright ones (out of high street brands) and I was looking for something a little cheaper. Anyway it has a lovely texture - very light and creamy but really stays put. I've been wearing it and eating and it's still there. I also got a red lipstick called Traffic Jam from the same range. It's a true, neutral red and would be a good 'beginner' red lipstick.

rumpled · 10/02/2014 16:53

Loving Lancomes Rouge in Love 'rose pitimi' a lovely bright pink!

SorrelForbes · 12/02/2014 09:19

Just bought this Uniqlo cashmere jumper in red (shade 15). Sorry if it's already been linked to up thread/on a previous thread. Very nice colour and fit and a bargain price too.

There's also 30% off denim at the moment at Gap and I highly recommend the dark blue and the black high rise skinnies.

MissScatterbrain · 12/02/2014 09:47

Came across this:

flow charts

on the spring thread (page 26) and thought I would post it here as it explains why some winters may have colours similar to those on other seasons' palettes.

I have a friend who went to CMB and her swatch book had colours drawn from other seasons which I thought was confusing, she didn't even know which were her best colours. I agree with Hopefully that its really important you can "see" your colours otherwise clothes and make up shopping will always be a struggle.

MissScatterbrain · 12/02/2014 09:49

Sorrel - thats a lovely red. Unfortunately their green is not a winter green.

SorrelForbes · 12/02/2014 10:25

Yes, it's a shame, I really want a green sweater!

Fooogle · 12/02/2014 22:13

Hello winters
Just saying hi as have been watching with interest and picking up tips. I ve just been rerated and was CMB spring and am apparently hoc winter now. Trying to get my head round it and very kind hopefully has been helping.
Currently looking for some cheap basic lippies and maybe couple of tops I can try out this whole new persona with! I've gleaned a few lipstick names already. Any other great pinks? Cheap ish and not too too scary?
My ** were lots of the blues, scarlet, indigo I think... Charcoal. Jewel winter so the consultant said...

SorrelForbes · 12/02/2014 22:21

Ooh, I'm a Jewel Winter too!

My current favourite lipsticks are:

Colletion 2000 in Prohibition
Kate Moss for Rimmel shade 107
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in shade 80

I've found Primark and H&M good for cheap vests (both cotton and silky nylon stuff). My most recent purchase is the Uniqlo sweater in Red (linked to above) and some more Gap jeans in black and dark navy.

Fooogle · 12/02/2014 23:36

Thanks sorrel! Need a boots trip I think Grin
Wondering where I ll find all the brightest blues (apart from kettlewell!)
sorrel do you suit burgundy well? I bought a vintage cashmere cardi just before I was redone (assuming it was for a friend...) wondering if it looks good or not...

LittleBabyPigsus · 13/02/2014 00:56

Hi Foogle, the NYC range in Superdrug has some nice Winter friendly lipsticks for £1.99 each. MUA matte lipsticks have a nice red for £1, or the red MUA Luxe lip lacquer for £3. I have home-diagnosed myself as a Bright Winter going by 12blueprints (because I have a neutral skintone not purely cool, but I do lean cool) but it sounds like Jewel Winters are quite similar because my best colours sound like your best colours!

I can only speak about plus size clothing stores really, but New Look tends to have the really bright blues. I have a great electric blue skater dress from there.

Thanks little. I'll try a new look visit and superdrug. Just need to sneak the children off my hands

SorrelForbes · 13/02/2014 07:17

Yes burgundy is none of my ** colours. I don't have much in that colour at the moment, just a couple of vest tops. I wore one at NYE with a sequinned black skirt and a black cropped cardigan.
