Preppy sounds a bit like the way I am doing gamine - very neat and tidy! I went out of my way to source scarves with no fringes, tassles, and not too much fabric. Narrow scarves tied neatly work well. I don't wear them any other way now, really. I wear straight clothes, no flowing shapes, no long arms or drapey stuff. It definitely makes me look better! There was also advice about pattern - not much pattern, basically - houndstooth, tweedy, check, herringbone and smallish patterns all look good on me. She said I could go bigger if I wanted to but I'm a bit scared for now. Grin

Littlebaby I like the way your style sounds and it sounds like you don't need the style day. I think it is good for people like me who had totally lost sight of what looks good on them - which is not your problem as your style sounds like it suits you perfectly and you have the confidence to carry it off.

ElizabethBathory · 28/01/2014 12:41

My favourite tumblr inspiration for preppy style, in case any of you preppy people are interested :) I mostly wear gamine and preppy styles with a little bit of ingenue thrown in for prettiness - prints, animals, tiny bit of sparkle and added childishness. I expect I'll gravitate more and more to purely preppy/gamine as I get older (maybe).

I know it's expensive, but I've just seen this me&em jumper in cobalt (and navy) which looks extremely useful and would fill the cobalt hole in my wardrobe...

LittleBabyPigsus · 28/01/2014 13:18

Heh Face thank you, although given that the item of clothing I want most at the moment is this I feel very out of place on S&B!

I also need this and most dresses on ModCloth, which I guess is preppy if the princesses from Adventure Time went to Harvard. You're darn right I want a dress covered in pies. eShakti make some amazing stuff but don't ship outside of the US/Canada which is supremely annoying because their plus size stuff is some of the best I've seen. I also love the stuff Natalie Perkins wears. So yeah, alien librarian is basically my style, not sure HoC is going to make that a category any time soon.

To make this more on topic, I very much want this very winter-friendly dress to stop being $115 so I can buy it.

LittleBabyPigsus · 28/01/2014 13:18

(Can you tell why 99% of plus size fashion in UK-based stores is incredibly depressing and ugly to me?)

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 28/01/2014 13:58

LittleBaby I am loving some of the ModCloth style! Bring on the non-boring clothes!

And I feel confident that HoC will indeed come out with new categories soon, including alien librarian and preppy. Grin

MissScatterbrain · 28/01/2014 14:20

Loving the retro vibe in your links Little and Natalie looks amazing - I am sure this style fit into one of the HoC style categories but you will need to ask the HOC consultants here.

I love certain aspects of the preppy look (and that cobalt jumper is fab and with it being cotton, you can wear it on cooler evenings in summer) but would feel the need to add a bit of drama.

escargot · 28/01/2014 17:45

Today I bought Estee's Rosa Rosa as my everyday nude. Chuffed to bits! Please don' tell me it's too warm! The SA wanted to put me in browns and I had to keep reminding her I'm cool-toned. Gah! No wonder I hate the make-up bit - everyone wants to warm me up!

I'm a 2N in Double wear Light - it's a neutral tone apparently.

escargot · 28/01/2014 17:48

I know CC is frowned upon but this blue is fab and looks great with a white shirt underneath a la preppy mode

Nice price too. I quite like them for basic/non-print stuff plus the HoC discount is great.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 28/01/2014 18:36

No link, escargot and I'm quite interested!

MissScatterbrain · 28/01/2014 19:15

Came across these dresses, available in forest green, aubegine and navy.

Very tempted...

escargot · 28/01/2014 19:47

Oops! Sorry Blush www.ccfashion.co.uk/fcp/product/countrycasuals/Knitwear/Picot-Edge-Knitted-Jumper/7361

It's not as chunky in real life but it's a beautiful blue.

escargot · 29/01/2014 11:53

£28.50 saved! Thank goodness I asked for a sample of the EL double wear light foundation. Great colour match but when I applied it this morning I swear my face actually cracked when I smiled in the magnifying mirror Shock

ElizabethBathory · 29/01/2014 12:46

MissS, I've been trying very hard not to buy one of those Me&Em dresses!

I know what you mean about Double Wear foundation escargot - I got samples of the original and the light version and both are so heavy and drying. Very annoying as Shell (1C0) is exactly the right colour for me, the best match I've found.

MissScatterbrain · 29/01/2014 12:52

These dresses are now sold out in my size - good job as I don't really need another dress.

MissScatterbrain · 29/01/2014 14:11

Have just bought this parka - not very exciting but I need something a bit more practical in this wet weather and I can't resist a great bargain (£169 reduced to £67).

Its definitely going to be a frugal February for me....

carrie74 · 29/01/2014 14:33

MissS I've got that Me&Em dress (in navy). In fact I'm wearing it today Grin.

I'm still struggling with the make-up thing, but popped along to MAC at the weekend to ask for a cooler blusher, as I felt mine was making my cheeks look ruddy rather than blushing. It was hard to convince her I needed something cool toned, but ended up with Breath of Plum (I think - I'd been wearing Blushbaby). I think it's a better colour, although I need to be careful I don't overdo it.

ElizabethBathory · 29/01/2014 14:49

carrie do you mind me asking what the sizing of the dress is like and how long it is? Sorry it's off topic :)

MissScatterbrain · 29/01/2014 15:56

Carrie Envy

carrie74 · 29/01/2014 16:09

Elizabeth I'm a size 10, but take a M in the Me&Em clingy dresses. I could get away with a S, but I prefer to have the extra wriggle room. I'm 5'6", and it sits about 2inches up from the middle of my knee. BUT is very easy to adjust upwards and downwards.

Sorry MissS. Bargainous parka though.

I've bought new trainers. To run in. Rock. And. Roll. They're pretty cool though (considering they've been picked to match my running gait): www.prodirectsoccer.com/products/nike-womens-zoom-structure-17-shield-womens-football-shoes-dark-charcoalblackpink-foilpure-platinum-67948.aspx

MissScatterbrain · 29/01/2014 16:33

Cool trainers - my DD has a similar pair (black with neon pink and orange strips), it seems neon coloured trainers are all the rage now.

I am considering getting a pair of burgundy or navy or dark grey trainers for every day wear - pic

MissScatterbrain · 29/01/2014 16:35

(DD only wears her trainers for playing sports - not for every day wear)

ElizabethBathory · 29/01/2014 16:48

Thanks Carrie!

LittleBabyPigsus · 29/01/2014 17:21

Carrie Maybelline do a cream/mousse blusher in plum, very nice. Also Sleek do lots of cool-toned blushers (and some really fantastic colours for the price). There's a Blush by 3 palette which has a lavender, a pink and I think a darker pink or purple?

pinkflaming0 · 29/01/2014 20:03

I get on well with EL Double Wear Light foundation and I don't like a 'made up' look. In fact I never wore foundation until about a year ago but at 47 felt my skin tone needed evening out a bit.

It probably depends on your skin type I suppose?

ElizabethBathory · 29/01/2014 20:28

It must do pink, my skin's dry and sensitive.
