Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

On screen, the green looks apple green to me, and the blue looks too soft and faded to be cobalt. But the mint looks icy green.

ElizabethBathory · 15/01/2014 10:40

This is cobalt though! Want.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 10:51

The blue cardi looks cobalt to me. That dress is lovely by the way!

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 10:55

Having looked again, you're right the blue looks wrong - its a soft iris (hyacinth?). The mint green looks icy I agree.

Lovely cobalt dress.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 15/01/2014 10:55

I agree the New Looks colours look a bit dusty to me.

My new Uniqlo scarf in navy print and Amazon scarf in emerald arrived today - both lovely but REALLY BIG, the green in particular. There is just so much fabric. But I think the colours are good for winters. My scarf collection is ridiculous now.

I've also got a white shirt from Uniqlo which I'm not sure about. The shirt is fine but I do look a bit like a waitress in it. I'll need to figure out a way to wear it that looks okay, I think. Always a useful wardrobe staple but it reminds me of school concerts or something.

I bought a couple of cheap belts to see if I can figure out a way to wear those as well - have never worn belts for anything other than functional purposes so it just looks weird to me.

Finally, for 50p I also bought a silver cross ring from Primark that goes across two fingers. I feel a bit blingy and it is a bit impractical (although not as much as you might think). I totally love it and it is weirdly excellent.

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 11:13

I would wear the white shirt under a crew neck jumper like this

Do a search for more ideas on pinterest.

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 11:19

Came across this useful blog on wearing belts and other accessories

Some of her outfits would look better if she chose her colours better and invested in a decent pair of boots but still some of her ideas are good.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 11:23

On second look the dark blue New Look cardigan does look rather purple.

Is this top icy or pastel mint? I think icy but need an outsider's look.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 11:24

Also - boo to polyester :( Sadly plus size clothes are full of it even when you're paying £££.

ElizabethBathory · 15/01/2014 11:27

That ones tricky LittleBaby, it has a hint of iciness but I'd say mostly pastel. And the cream lace might not be great against your face. Picturing myself in that top, the colours don't work at all.

ElizabethBathory · 15/01/2014 11:31

I think it says in my HoC booklet that the way to think about ice colours is they are basically white, but with a tiny drop of colour added. The blue/green in that top is a bit too strong.

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 12:12

That's Aqua which is one of my spring Mum's best colours.

Ice colours are difficult to spot - good thing I can't wear more than 25% in these colours.

Funny how at the start of the season I had trouble finding burgund tops - these are everywhere now. There's a lovely wine coloured jumper in the Jack Wills sale (as well as a bright pink cashmere jumper at half price) - I am not getting these cos of the bracelet length sleeves which would drive me mad.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 12:49

That's a good point about the cream (I haven't seen this top in store). I really want some fresh-feeling colours to wear but it's all black at the moment.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 12:50

I'm not sure I look great in icy colours anyway, I look much better in brighter shades - but I find it so tricky to dress in spring. I want to wear all these nice fresh pastels but they look awful :( Summer is fine because I just wear white/navy/red and go nautical-ish, but it's not quite right for spring.

KosherBacon · 15/01/2014 12:51

I think of the ice colours as being like the Dulux paints that are white with a hint of apple, blue etc. I look like a dog in most of them though.

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 13:44

Spring is tricky - Autumn is easy as I usually can't wait to get back in my dark winter clothes. Also Spring in England is usually cold so I tend to hang into my jumpers and cardigans.

I think light grey, emerald, cobalt, lagoon blue and navy look good in spring.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 14:18

Light grey is a good idea, maybe brightened up with some fuchsia? Even if it's just a light grey skater dress worn with some bright fuchsia lipstick.

ElizabethBathory · 15/01/2014 14:46

Just ordered a couple of cobalt vest tops from H&M: long top and shorter top. The quality of their vest tops is brilliant and I especially like the long ones.

MissScatterbrain · 15/01/2014 15:14

Fuchsia is good too - I wear this colour on my nails which matches one of my scarves.

EB - do you wear these vests as layers?

ElizabethBathory · 15/01/2014 15:25

I guess so MissS. I have lots of wide necked and slightly off shoulder jumpers where the straps of the vest is visible, and I wear the longer tops with jeans or a short jersey skirt (like the Hush ruched skirt), with a shorter jumper on top, so the bottom of the vest is ruched and visible.

If that makes sense. I also wear them for exercising because I feel more motivated if I'm wearing nice colourful exercise clothes!

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 15:48

Boots 17 have a new longlasting lipstick range with a great bright pink called Delinquent - it's not quite as purple as fuchsia but still a great cool-toned bright pink. Topshop have some fab winter-friendly lipsticks too.

Would wear it with this dress in pale grey, black tights and black Dr Martens.

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 19:40

Just found this blog and really enjoying it - the blogger wears a lot of winter colours, lots of black and white with pops of colour.

QueenCadbury · 15/01/2014 21:09

Thanks for the feedback on the cardi. I knew I was just trying to convince myself. One day I will find an emerald cardi!!

Queen this or this or this or this?

LittleBabyPigsus · 15/01/2014 22:42

Try Boden? They often have nice vivid winter-friendly colours.
